Homeschool Roster is Ready for the New Year!

We hope your family had a wonderful and Merry Christmas. We are looking forward to the 2023 New Year and have made exciting field trip and event plans. You will have great options to "Get Out of the House" for learning and having a lot of fun.

Field trips start back next month with a Discovering Your Own Destiny tour at Choate Engineering Performance, CPR and AED, First Aid, and Narcan class, and more. You can get a sneak peak of some of the scheduled field trips.

Graduation 2023 and Homeschool Prom 2023 will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Both events are open to Homeschool Roster members and non-members.

Homeschool Graduation 2023

The date for the Homeschool Graduation 2023 has been set for Saturday, May 13, 2023, and will be held in Hardeman, County Tennessee. If you would like information about the Homeschool Graduation 2023, please complete the information request form and more details will be e-mailed to you.

Graduates do not have to be a Homeschool Roster member, part of any group, homeschool cooperative, homeschool association, or any organization to participate. The Homeschool Graduation 2023 is open to all homeschoolers. All Homeschool Graduation 2023 participants and one parent will receive a complimentary (non-transferrable) ticket to the Homeschool Prom 2023.

Homeschool Prom 2023

Homeschool Roster is hosting the Homeschool Prom 2023: "Under the Moon and Stars" on Saturday, May 13, 2023. It is a special occasion for your middle school and high school teens to dress in their finest attire, enjoy an evening with friends, and to make new ones. The prom will be held at Robin's Nest in Toone, Tennessee. Tickets go on sale Monday, January 16, 2023. Join the Homeschool Prom group, so you don't miss any updates.

Homeschool Roster is again headed to Broadway or rather Broadway is coming to us in Memphis at the Orpheum Theatre. There will be a weekday, daytime full production performance of Disney's Frozen. Homeschool Roster members may register in January for this field trip.

Activities are typically held Monday through Friday (some weekend opportunities) and are educational, informative, and fun. Registration is open for you to become a member any time during the school year.

Homeschool Roster is more than just field trips. It is also an online resource for events, product specials, educational experiences, news, and other opportunities of interest to West Tennessee homeschoolers. Although it started as a resource for West Tennessee families, it has become a go-to resource for homeschoolers throughout Tennessee and into Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, and Kentucky.

CPR/First Aid/AED/Narcan Training

Homeschool Roster has scheduled a CPR and AED (training and certification), and First Aid and Narcan (training) class in Jackson. It will follow the American Heart Association instruction and be taught by a Jackson Fire Department fireman who is a certified emergency medical responder.

SUGGESTED AGE/GRADE
Grades seventh through high school, and adults may attend the class too.

The classes are open to Homeschool Roster members and non-members.

Water Fun at SoundWaves

Heading to SoundWaves is like going to an awesome beach party, except it is indoors. Homeschool Roster is heading to SoundWaves, the four- acre indoor water experience at the Gaylord. It touts "This is not a waterpark. This is a classroom with a splash"! It will be an enjoyable day for all ages on attractions that include the Quarter Note Cove, Groovin' Lagoon Activity Pool, Crowd Surfer, and more.

The field trip is open to Homeschool Roster members and non-members.

Discovering Your Own Destiny: Choate Engineering Performance

The Homeschool Roster Discovering Your Destiny (DYD) field trips are created so your teen can plan for their future/life after high school. They will learn about post-secondary opportunities, careers that are open to them as well as non-traditional paths. While touring Choate Engineering Performance, students (teenager girls and boys) will learn about the industry as well as careers at Choate.

The field trip is open to Homeschool Roster members and non-members.

Jackson Symphony League Color of Music Art Contest

The Color of Music is presented by the Jackson Symphony League for students in kindergarten through the eighth grade. The art contest is in its 22nd year with the goals of:

• Providing an opportunity for listening to and visually interpreting classical music.
• Increasing awareness of The Jackson Symphony and familiarize students with repertoires presented by The Jackson Symphony.
• Encouraging a lifelong appreciation of symphonic music by young people.

You may read more about the Color of Music art contest. If your homeschool student would like to participate, please contact Jennifer Smeltser to receive the contest packet and any questions. All art submissions must be submitted to Jennifer Smeltser by Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Read the rules, so you may learn how your student may participate. The contest is open to students in Madison County and its surrounding counties (i.e.: Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Gibson, Hardeman, Haywood, Madison, McNairy and Weakley) only.
