Bring the whole family for a free day of hands-on art-making, performance, music, gallery games, and local artists engaging social issues of our time. Enjoy collaborations co-produced in partnership with the ARTery, WBUR's arts and culture team responding to themes in our special exhibition, Boston's Apollo: Thomas McKeller and John Singer Sargent.
PROGRAM FOR THE DAY
Portraits of Color | 11 am–4 pm
Bertucci Education Studio, First Floor, New Wing
Join in a special Studio activity exploring color mixing, portraiture, identity, and representation with Portraits of Color, featuring Boston-based social justice project Wee the People and artist/illustrator Ken Daley.
Figure on Diversity | 11 am–4 pm
Calderwood Hall, Second Floor, New Wing
Draw from clothed live models with Figure On Diversity, all materials and supplies provided and no drawing experience necessary. All models are representative of historically marginalized communities. Figure On Diversity educates arts communities to value bodies which have historically been excluded while providing a safe entry into modeling for individuals of diversity.
Music in the Courtyard with Anjimile | 11:15 am & 2 pm
Courtyard, First Floor, Historic Palace
Enjoy music in the historic courtyard by Anjimile, a queer and trans songmaker/lover boy based in Boston, MA. The essence of their musical output is a gooey center of warmth and tenderness informed by the power of their intersectional identities.
Chat with The ARTery | 12 & 2 pm
Living Room, First Floor, New Wing
Head to the Living Room for an interactive talk with members of the ARTery, WBUR’s arts and culture team, who co-produced today's special free programming.
Spotlight Talks | 1:15 & 3:15 pm
Tapestry Room, Second Floor, Historic Palace
Learn more about the art in the Gardner's Tapestry Room in informal, in-gallery spotlight talks.
