Bad and sad news for the region of Varese, Italy, as the new owner of Husqvarna, Pierer Industries AG (a company owned by KTM CEO Stefan Pierer) announced that the Italian production facility will be shut down.

Husqvarna's former PR officer Martino Bianchi confirmed that the production will be transferred to Austria, in one of KTM's plants. Since the details of Husky's acquisition from BMW are still unknown, we can only speculate that there were some paragraphs related to the future of the plant near Varese and the 200+ workers, now laid off.

Though at first only rumored, BMW finally let go of Husqvarna in favor of Stefan Pierer and one of his companies, Pierer Industries AG. The present development of this business seems to explain why BMW wanted Husky off their portofolio, but the future is very cloudy...
