It's both tiring and annoying to hear the reports telling us how cars are lost on today's youth, who are supposedly more interested in gadgets, urban living, and the glorious utopia of walking and public transit. It's clear that somewhere along the way, we need to help kids become more interested in cars and the welcoming, wonderful culture around them. (You'll hear more from us on that in the future, and in a fun way.)

The bottom line, however, is this: it's easier to hook 'em if you start 'em young. And that's where author Dwight Knowlton comes in with The Little Red Racing Car. That's the title of a children's picture book he's written about a boy who discovers a 1955 Maserati 300S in a barn, and how he and his father restore it to its former glory. All the emotional buttons get pushed here, from the classic racer as a centerpiece, to the father-son bonding aspect of the story, to artwork designed to honor the style of the vintage advertising and racing posters we all love.

In his quest to get the book published, Knowlton has initiated a Kickstarter campaign to get it funded. The pitch he makes is compelling. Enough so that I chipped in myself.

Have a look at his video and see if you feel the same way. He's got a ways to go to reach his stated goal, but there's still a lot of time left in the month. So if you like it, spread the word, and let's see if we as enthusiasts can help push The Little Red Racing Car out of the barn and onto the bookshelf.
