7 Tips For Email Marketing That Converts

We all seem to be a bit hesitant when it comes to email marketing. Why is this? Is it because of our inherent fear of our messages being labeled as “spam” or do we stumble on the thought of flooding potential clients’ inboxes?

Whatever the reason, we need to stop being afraid of scaring off customers with email newsletters and the like. Here are seven tips to begin effectively marketing with email:

  1. Vary emails in tone and content–fun and friendly is always better than boring and stale
  2. Monitor where you’re acquiring your email subscriber list from. Once your emails start going to spam, the rest of them will continue to follow suit
  3. Check for email compatibility with all the main email software providers–online, desktop and mobile
  4. Count your links! Elizabeth Yin suggests that it is best to have fewer than five links in any email. Flooding the reader with links may decrease chances of targeted conversion
  5. The call-to-action should always be obvious and above the fold
  6. Optimize the time you send your emails. If you send your email at 9pm PST, your readers are most likely going to read your email a day later–if at all. Consistently monitor your readership and update your times based on your findings
  7. Baby step into increasing email frequency. Avoid being obnoxious and losing subscribers by increasing email numbers gradually over time. Find you’re losing subscribers? Scale back
