70th Birthday Party for Treme Brass Band’s Benny Jones Sr.

“If you love music, come party with Benny,” says the invite—Okay, that narrows things down a bit. What if you love music, and love the Treme Brass Band? They should draw even more. And if you love music, and love the Treme Brass Band’s snare drummer, Benny Jones, Sr?  Heck, that ought to cover everybody we know.

The occasion is Benny’s 70th birthday, which will be celebrated this Sunday night, August 11 at Jackie’s Touch of Class (919 N. Claiborne Ave) from 7 p.m. until Midnight. The Treme will be in the house, and no doubt many other musician friends will drop by. Jones is of course the leader of the long-running band, which also plays Tuesday nights at d.b.a.  (618 Frenchmen St.). During their set at Satchmo Summerfest last weekend, the band announced that they’re recording a new Mardi Gras CD which will be in the stores come Carnival time.
