Articles from your 2013 CFHB Board

President’s Corner
Kathleen Plyter

I had a great time hanging out at the Gnarly Barley watching Ed Measom/Bob Ford, Greg Davis, and Drew Pohle brew. By the time things got cleaned up it was about 7 p.m. and some of us hung out until 8 p.m.  If you didn’t stop by you missed some great food, beers and of course the chance to put your name in the drawing for 2 Friday Fest tickets.

Your club needs one of you to step up and take over as Event Lead.  This position requires you to plan events throughout the year.  We do not need an event every month and several are such a tradition they don’t take much on your part (president party, stout n stogie, brewin the park, pool party, christmas party). We also need a Marketing Leader to run the raffle table each month.  This position requires about an hour of your time at each month’s meeting.  Please see John Laconca if you are interested.

SC13 is still looking for a few folks to help pull this event together.  We need  someone to take on the responsibilities of the hospitality room, help with the check in table and of course judges and stewards are always appreciated.  If you are interested in helping please contact me, John or JR.  Thank you.

Don’t forget to purchase your new CFHB t-shirt for $13.

John Laconca

I would like to send out a big thank you for the gang of four, Ed Measom, Bob Ford, Greg Davis and Drew Pohle for our Gnarly Barley Brew Day.  We had people bring home brew and share!  If the club would like to do more of these and we have more members that want to do it at a favorite location, I am open for it.

On a shameless plug event, the Gnarly Barley has the famous Tampa Bay Brew Bus coming to pick up people and take them to CCB, Barley Mow and 7th Sun on October 5th!  I believe tickets are $55.  See their website for details or visit them!

As you know, we are having Brew in the Dark this month at Rossi’s Pizza!  Very exciting because the weather is getting cooler and there is pizza close at hand.  Please e-mail me if you plan on brewing!  We need a head count for water hoses and stuff!

Do not forget about Sunshine Challenge!

Have your beers ready, entries are opening up soon!

Labor Day, the Mellow Mushroom on East Colonial will be pouring the locally brewed Rogue Beer.  Greg Davis was given a batch of Rogue ingredients and he whipped up.  Come on out and taste and enjoy!

That is all for now! PROST!

CHEERS!

BREWSLETTER

We are always looking for Brewsletter content. If you have some great brewing news, tips, hints, advice or a review of beer related event, please write it up and send it to brewsletter@cfhb.org which can also be found by clicking on Contact Us on the left side of the home page of our Club web site: www.cfhb.org.

MARKETING

We are still in need of someone to sell tickets and run our raffle, see John Laconca for details.  On your visits to Heart's Homebrew be sure to thank Dave and Luke for their generosity in donating raffle items as well. Bill Rossi is another big contributor to the raffle. Let us know what items you would like to see in the raffles. We are always looking for new items and we are always open to good ideas and additional sources of great raffle items. If you think you can help with selling raffle tickets, collecting prizes from local vendors, let the team know: marketing@cfhb.org

This is a very important fundraising activity for the club, so please support the raffles.  You can help by looking through your beer closet and own brewing items to see what you can donate.  Any and all items are greatly appreciated!!

HOSPITALITY/MEMBERSHIP

If you are new to the club you have probably heard from the hospitality and membership team.  They are the greeters at the meetings.  They hand out badges, new member packets and they gather the list of all the homebrew that is at the meeting for sampling.  They help new members to fill out applications and help the treasurer collect dues.  If you are looking for advice on a specific brewing topic, then just ask  Joe & Yvonne Caruso, and/or Robert Watkins and they will introduce you to an experienced brewer that can help.  If you need a CFHB name badge see Mike Urban.  Remember, if you want to vote in the 2014 election renew your membership prior to August 31, 2013.

WEBSITE

Know how to cram stuff into Wordpress? Email webmaster@cfhb.org today.

LIBRARY

Look for David Brunson with the portable library (the silver shelves) at the meeting. It's full of all kinds of great brewing information. There is something in there for everyone, brewers, beer enthusiasts, mead makers, even some new books on cider. If you are looking for something and we don't have it, please let us know and we will see about picking it up for the club. Lastly, if you have a CFHB book that you have had for a while, please return it ASAP so another member can benefit from it.  There’s a new book added to the library, “How to open a Nano/Micro Brewery.”  It should be there at the meeting along with the Library!

COMPETITION

Sunshine challenge registration opens on Sept 1st.... Please bring any beers you need to confirm a category for to the September meeting we have plenty of experienced Judges just waiting to give their opinion!

Unsure how to enter, just talk to me or Paul or any of the team.

Also think about stewarding and judging for Sunshine, its a great way to learn.  Paul is busy brewing for Sunshine, and I hope y’all are too!

Commander Saaz Blasts off the weekend of Sept 14th... more opportunities for judging and stewardin,  hopefully we can inch our way back up the Florida Circuit medals table! (we are still 13th!)

Please utilize the experienced members of the club for brewing tips... they don’t bite and are eager to share their knowledge.....

MEISTERS/EDUCATION

Several very experienced brewers in CFHB are given the title of Meisters. They provide education during Beer School, meeting beer tastings, and answer many member questions via email at meisters@cfhb.org. Beer School is at 3:00 PM. Ifthere is something that you would like to learn more about or something you would like to share with the club, please contact any Meister to get it set up.
