Elisha Cuthbert unfairly put in middle of NHL controversy, again

When it comes to life as an NHL WAG, Elisha Cuthbert can never catch a break.

The wife of Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf found her name tossed in an unfortunate ring after Canada’s Sports Network (TSN) aired a tweet suggesting she was tangoing between the sheets with her hubby’s teammate, Joffrey Lupul.

Lupul got wind of TSN’s latest gaffe, following Dustin Penner’s social media snuff faux over the weekend, and knocked the network via Twitter.

While TSN has since apologized, noting the tweet “should have never, ever gone to air,” this isn’t the first time Cuthbert’s rep has taken a hit at the NHL’s expense.

Sean Avery, Cuthbert’s former flame, was suspended in 2009 after taking aim at the “Old School” actress, claiming “it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my (former girlfriends). I don’t know what that’s about.”

Cuthbert doesn’t seem fazed either way as she re-tweeted this gem to her 112,000 followers on Twitter Monday.
