Description
This Persuasive Letter Writing Bundle uses the traits of writing to teach persuasive letter writing with three fun, persuasive writing activities that the students will love.
This resource can be used to teach persuasive letter writing – taking students through the whole writing process from generating ideas all the way to publishing final drafts. It can also be completed as part of a writer’s workshop, writing center, or guided writing group. Each activity can be completed in one week – Day 1: Ideas, Day 2: Organization, Day 3: Voice and Word Choice, Day 4: Sentence Fluency and Rough Draft, Day 5: Conventions and Good Draft Publishing.
Each of the three activities in the bundle is based on the 6 (+1) Traits of Writing and is identical in format, allowing for student mastery of the skill. This repetition also allows for the gradual release of responsibility to the students. The first activity can be completed whole group, with explicit teaching of each step. The second activity can be completed as a guided writing activity, with some teacher intervention at each step. The third activity can be completed independently by students and used as a summative assessment of the skill.
For each activity, their letters will contain three different parts:
- Introduction paragraph
- Body paragraph
- Conclusion paragraph
Each activity also includes completed letter examples that you can use with students to get their creative juices flowing, or to provide a little extra guided help for students who require more scaffolding or differentiation.
A rubric is also included for assessment.
