I REALLY liked this book! I have read several romance books about teacher/student or young woman/older wealthy man relationships that they sometimes blend together. Yet I found Shuttered Affections to be refreshing.

While Julia is younger than Aiden, she isn't portrayed as a naive young woman overwhelmed by the attentions of an older man. Yes, she is overwhelmed by Aiden, but it is because of her intense physical reaction to him - something she never expected to feel for anyone again due to the actions of her previous boyfriend. Julia definitely has her moments of vulnerability and the self-esteem issues so many women face at some point in their lives, but she is an otherwise strong independent woman working hard to achieve her goals.

Aiden. What can I say about Aiden? Of course, he's hot, intense, and wealthy - which you don't get an understanding of until the end of the book. He also has a sensitive side that I haven't seen in many of the rich alpha male characters. His insecurities around Julia are refreshing. Now for the icing on the cake, he's a twin! Yes ladies, there are 2 of these gorgeous hunks!

I think what I enjoyed most about Shuttered Affections is that while there is a lot going on in a short time frame, the relationship between Julia and Aiden is a slow seduction. They don't actually have sex until about 80% into the book, but the moments of intimacy before that are HOT! I felt seduced by Aiden and loved the anticipation that built as I read the book.

What I did not like about the book was the abrupt ending. It was not a cliffhanger ... it just stopped. Fortunately, I have the second book and can begin it immediately. Otherwise, the ending would have really pissed me off. I understand books in sequels are supposed to leave you hanging, but this one did not. It just stopped with no warning and if it weren't for the fact that it said "The end of book one" I would have thought there was something wrong with my download. Leave me hanging, don't slam the door in my face.

Ms. Folsom has written a wonderfully seductive book and I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

2.5 out of five.

Okay so I'm not going to be continuing this series or duology. Frankly dislike the whole threesome thing, I hate love triangles among siblings. Julia is greedy and frankly very selfish, just because her ex fucked her about doesn't mean she can do the same. I'm sure certain people out there will love this book, but it really wasn't for me. I wasted two days reading this book with the hope of Aiden and Julia ending up together, but no the writer didn't have enough fun making Julia fucked and logically blind. She had to go on and make her greedy as well. A woman who had been abused for over a year of her life wouldn't even go there nor would she have handled certain events the way she did. The Author lives in a fantasy world.

A truly enjoyable read. Ms. Folsom’s talent shines!
An interesting storyline that had good flow. Great characters were adequately developed. They were easy to laugh, cry and get angry with as their lives unfold.
Julianna is interesting. She has talent and potential to become a photojournalist. She moves to a new town and putting her past behind her, or so she thinks, to start life over with her best friend in tow. She is a unique individual that has both strength and fortitude.
Aiden Stone, her photography professor and parking spot thief, is quiet a mystery. He pursues her even though he should not. He admires her talent and sees her for the Angel he wants for his own.
Is he right for her? They both have skeletons in their prospective closets. She has a crazy ex boyfriend that is a stalker…who finds her. He has a few secrets as well; he is willing to share his with her. She does not say anything until things get bad.
Their attraction is clear to everyone, people she works with, some of the students in the photography class and both of their friends see it.
Aiden appreciates her talent and pushes her to be better.

“The lines flow through each piece perfectly, like they were random puzzle pieces just waiting to be met with their mates.” ~Mr. Aiden Stone to Julianna on her set of photographs he helped her arrange for a project.

So much is in this storyline. It is exciting and paced so well, it is easy to keep up with the roller coaster of emotions readers will experience. It will leave you holding your breath for the next novel in the series!

Dialogue needed a lot of work. It just felt awkward a lot of times. I think it felt too formal? I just didn't seem realistic people would talk like that I'm real life! I also think some unnecessary scenes could of been edited out. I liked the story line but I just couldn't get past the interactions/dialogue between characters.

Well, Rene Folsom does it again! She has created hot, sexy characters with an undeniable chemistry that has the reader clamoring for more. Folsom is the indisputable (in my humble opinion) Queen of the Tease. If erotica were burlesque, she would be the Gypsy Rose Lee.

The immediate chemistry between Julia and Aiden permeates through the book like pounding sound waves as Folsom deftly builds the tension. The characters are fantasy characters, but like any great writer, they are flawed and have had experiences that have brought them to where they are now. I obviously enjoyed the romantic and erotic aspects of Shuttered Affections, but I also enjoyed the alternative plot line that involves Julia’s past. Folsom has also developed serious subject matter in an acceptable and realistic fashion.

In addition, she has realistically painted a portrait of a fairly independent, yet insecure girl in her early twenties dealing with a new passion and an excruciating past that are about to collide.

I for one am looking forward to her second book in The Cornerstone series…. I need answers. And I need more of Julia and Aiden… and whatever Rene Folsom is dishing up in the sequel to Shuttered Affections.

I WISH I COULD GIVE IT A ZERO.

Oh what have I done. I read the greats for this taboo category. I came from the likes of 'Easy', 'Too good', 'Slammed.' and 'A different blue.'

I ended up with this pile of shit.

There is so much wrong with this, I can tell already my review will be a rant so sorry in advance.

After chapter one I just knew.

description

I was right. I was so right.

Basic plot is just that BASIC.

Shuttered Affections tells the story of Juliana Petersen's, who moved to a new town after her old boyfriend Rob abused her and her family didn't believe her. Oh her best friend Sid also went to not having anything in there old town to keep her around. In the new town she goes to photography and sculpture classes at the college. She has a new teacher for photography, Aiden. They get together. The ex Rob comes back and stalks her.

As you can tell the plot isn't new or exciting but I can normally handle that.

My problems with this novel start with Juliana.

She has just escaped an abusive relationship were she was raped, cut of from her life and stalked. That would make any girl be slightly paranoid and scared all around right?

Not Juliana.

I mean she's great in fact she's just peachy. She wants to sleep with her teacher, works in a bar, goes to college, loves her teacher, spends most of her time alone, takes great pictures, makes even better sculptures and is just peachy.

description

That was me. She had no thoughts of safety for herself or those around her. She runs from Rob and is taken to hospital because he sexual assaulted her so bad that she needed stitches. The police ask if she wants to press charges guess what; SHE SAYS NO.

He comes back into her life, stalking her and her friend leaving her creepy notes and Sid; the one with sense says she should take a restraining order out against him.

Do you know what she says?

'I thought about all the stupid work to get a restraining order'

Are you serious? Are you serious? I CANNOT EVEN.

description

She is the most infuriating character I've ever read.

In fact I don't know why this annoys me so much but it does.

She says she has massive boobs that are spilling out of her vest and that everyone stares at them because there so big and in your face. Get what? Her cup size is a C. A fucking C. I'm a C no one stares at my boobs in fact they don't spill out of anything.

My next problem is Aiden.

He's the photography teacher, forbidden fruit love interest.

He's creepy and weird. He has issues.

Juliana and Aiden meet the first day. They have class that first day. He's putting his hand on her back, lifting her up, holding her hip, she's practically begging to be kissed by him. The first half of the novel takes place in a week, the bit I fully read did anyway. Well I say fully I ended up skipping paragraphs.

Anyway. In that first half, that first week do you know what this teacher and student do? Kiss, go on a picnic date, phone sex, sleep together, kiss in public, act like a couple, tell practically everyone they like each other, take no precautions, practically dry hump in the classroom but oh its okay the doors locked.

If they don't see a risk why should I?

He says he doesn't care if he loses his job because he loves her. THEY'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER A WEEK!

description

When I read Teacher student romances, I want risk, I want to feel like this shouldn't be happening and love conquers all and they will make it work with a lot of hard work because that's what it will be. A lot of hard work.

In Shuttered Affections they act like it's no big deal. They portray it as two normal people. Which takes the taboo thing out of the novel and becomes normal.

Which leaves the fact Aiden is married. Did I forget to mention that? I'm sorry the thing is it wasn't made a big deal either. Aiden answers the phone while them two are kissing then says casually 'it's my wife' She runs off and cries and moans a bit. Then it's basically forgotten. It actually is. She brings it up a few times, she mentions it a few times, he says he'll tell her about it later and that's it.

You can tell what would happen though. It would turn out it wasn't a marriage of love and that they married for convenience. Problem sorted.

description

Then theres the psycho ex Rob. I didn't care. I honestly didn't. I've read books where this has been handled amazingly well. I've then cried and felt what the woman is going through when this happens.

In shuttered Affections? I don't care. I honestly wish the novel burned. Juliana doesn't seem to care about it to start with, then she decides to tell Aiden, then she moans about getting a restraining order, then she has phone sex with Aiden.

That annoyed me. The police are on their way to question her. She's tired so say's she'll sleep before they arrive. Okay I get that. Next thing you know she's rang Aiden and there getting down and dirty together through the phone.

Sorry aren't you like scared or nervous about talking to the police?

Oh no you're just horny. Okay continue.

I never met Rob. I skipped to the end after this. I wanted to read it but I thought I'd already killed off too many brain cells by reading this trash.

I skipped to the end deciding to see how that went. Of course I didn't really fully understand it but I was still annoyed.

Aiden's twin. (He has an identical hot twin, there own mother can't tell them apart but Juliana can easily.) Of course she fucking can.

The three of them are heading to a Mexican to dinner.

The end.

Then my worst nightmare came true. I continued reading a little bit of the authors note.

The End of Book One.

description

I won't be reading the next one, funnily enough. In fact I'm going to try my hardest to burn this from my mind.

I hate this book. Not the author. I love that she sat down and spent her time and energy to write this. I just wish she hadn't.

I decided I should end of a good note.

My good note is that this book is written in first person. Even if it is the view point of someone as stupid as Juliana. I do hate third person so first person makes this book slightly better like 0.000000000000000000000000000000000001% better. Yay Rene Folsom, for making the first person view point choice.

Go you.

Shuttered affections

This is the first book I have had pleasure of reading by this author.

Juliana/Julia has had it rough. Serious SHIT of EX. It was abusive and ugly.
It's there, you know it but you don't feel bogged down in it. It was part of the story but handled with grace.
It's hard not to fall in love with her.
Times during the book I thought I shared her thoughts. She is very relatable.

Aiden was fabulous. He is everything you could want in a leading man and more!
Even when he was making me crazy, I still found him to be completely sexy and somewhat adorable.
He had a few twists and errr surprises up his sleeve. Wowza!

Once this story took off it was hot!
The steam sizzles and I am going to be BLUNT, Rene writes good sex. (I mean like really great hot and toe curling, good sex!)
I found myself waiting to see what would happen next. Would you take a chance? Rules? Sometimes love gives you no choice.
Great story. Well paced and fabulous characters. If you are into that kind of book, look no further. What a FUN read!
Book two pleeeeeeeaaaaasseee and soon. What a mother of a Cliffy! Bam!
Bravo and congrats on the start of what I am sure will be a great series!

This is the first book I have read from this author . What can I say Renee will be an author that I will be on the look out for. She has written a book that kept me up all night reading. The way she can take us from point a to point b , throwing a curve ball in every now and then. At one point I was going one way and then it turns out to go the other way totally.
Julia and Aiden are written so well. The chemistry between them is hot , hot , hot. They are both very strong characters but also have their flaws. The way they interact with each other is just so hot and sexy. yumm is all I can say about Aiden. The whole forebidden professor student relationship. they try and stay away , even as far as going out on other dates . But holy moley chapter three had me well lets just say blushing really hard.
There are so many more thing happening and you really want to keep reading to find out.
This is one hot steamy summer read. Renee will have you steaming this summer. Great summer read that will keep you reading

Not my cup of tea

I have read other books by this author and always enjoyed them. Unfortunately not so much this time. I found it to be too much and kind of just wanted it to be over. But then again, erotica isn't really my forte

Relationship At Warp Speed

Ahhh the forbidden professor/student relationship, one of the main topics in Shuttered Affections, and unfortunately the topic that is brushed to the way side very early on. In this book we have a broken girl, hot professor and secrets on both sides waiting to be told.

Juliana is a college art student, living with her friend Sid and works at a club at night. She has left her past behind for a fresh start and tends to keep to herself because it is just easier that way. Still carrying baggage from the past, Juliana is trying to move forward with her future. One crazy morning at school Juliana runs into Aiden Stone in the worst way possible.

Aiden Stone is the new Professor of Juliana's photography class and is instantly drawn to her. He is new to the town as well and carrying a bit of baggage from his past. Aiden doesn't hide the fact that he feels something for Juliana and instantly acts on it right in the classroom. For some reason he needs to make her his Angel (which annoyed me the entire book).

This is where I had a really hard time hanging on to the story line, as it gets pretty convoluted with his secrets as well as her abusive past. Aiden and Juliana start to see each other at school and outside of school. At one point I think the fact that he is a professor is actually forgotten because the guy didn't worry about it one bit. For me, the angst of the student/teacher romance is the getting caught part. I like to have the professor wavering about the relationship vs his job. Also we have Juliana fresh off the heels of an abusive relationship right into another one with her professor. I felt a girl with the past such as hers would be a little more cautious when playing the field.

Now that Aiden and Juliana are together, secrets are told and plans are made, Aiden's creep meter goes to red and he seems like a different guy. Constantly claiming her and making her repeat his words. To me this should have sent Juliana packing having this control turned on her before.

Shuttered Affections started out good, however the insta-relationship really turned me off and I had a hard time finishing the book. Some instas work, but I wasn't feeling it with Juliana and Aiden due to the past she finally elaborates on. It was well written, unfortunately I didn't click with it.

You know those moments in a really good romance where you just want the characters to jump one another? Well there are a few in this beauty.

It’s no revelation to anyone who reads my blog or follows my facebook page that I adore Rene’s writing. She has yet to put something out there that I haven’t enjoyed. Shuttered Affections was no different. I have to say that this book might be my favorite. Though I did threaten to shake her, when I read the last line. We have a cliff hanger that involves two very sexy men.

At the heart of this story is Juliana, sweet girl with a messed-up past due to a shitty man and an abusive relationship. This part of the storyline might be where I feel Rene found a voice for Juliana without throwing the details of abuse in our face. We get to understand Juliana or Julia as she is mostly referred to without having to relive her past in blaring detail. There is a time and place for those stories to be told. I am personally glad that Rene didn’t choose this book as the platform for those details.

Moving on we have our super sexy, talented lead male. Aiden. Can I just ask… where was Aiden when I was in school? This man is sex appeal and every time he hit the pages my tummy fluttered wondering what he would do next. He caused my jaw to drop on more than one occasion. Some good reasons, some what the hell moments and others… well let’s just say he’s full of surprises. Like a super hot twin!

The connection was fast, fierce, sweet and passionate between our leads, but lines of propriety were blurred making this story just a little more delish in my opinion. As always the sex is hot, steamy and well written, just as I have come to expect from this brilliant author. Oh and I cannot forget to give the cover a shout out, because I love it!

So this book is hands down a five star for me. I cannot wait to see where this series goes as I believe there are some steamy secrets awaiting us all.

Oh my! I found a new favorite author! I signed up to do the review not knowing what to expect, but I became determined to read it after I saw the cover reveal. After reading the first chapter, I knew that I was hooked.

Though this had erotic themes to the story, it had a great storyline. Here we have a college student named Julia who became attracted to her very sexy professor, Aiden Stone. Though Julia was a student, the reader soon becomes aware that there was something dark from Julia's past that she was trying to hide from. This had me curious to know what happened to her and had me wondering how this was going to play a role in the sexual attraction between Julia and Aiden. I was not disappointed though because there were twists in the story that had me gripping on to my e-reader.

Now, the characters were great. Julia was a sweet, independent, and courageous woman. When learning about her past, I just wanted to hug her and hide her from all harm. Next, there was Sid, Julia's best friend. Though she was busy with her boyfriend, she showed that she was a trustworthy friend who would do anything to stick by Julia's side. Lastly, there was Aiden. Boy, was he hot! I loved the description of him and I absolutely loved the tension between him and Julia. The first half of the book I found myself yelling at them to just kiss or take it to the next level. Aiden had me drooling.

At the end, I really loved this book. My only complaint was that it had a cliffhanger and the second book is not out yet! Alas, I have to be patient.

From page one, I was intrigued by this story. Rene writes in such a way that I had to know more. Aiden the sexy professor and Julia sexy student. I like the possessive male leads in a story but Julia definitely didn't find the clueless female. She had he baggage but so does Aiden. The build up between the characters was extremely intense, so much so you want to scream "kiss her already!" I can't wait to read Exposed Affections to see where the story goes :)

3.5 stars for a freebie that had an interesting description.
It started out really great...college student looking for a parking spot so she can make it on time to class, instead meets handsome teacher as he steals her spot and rushes off. From there it had some sexy, fun and flirty foreplay moments between them, interspersed with a scary EX stalking her and her life as a photographer/bar waitress. Unfortunately I got lost and found myself rolling my eyes at all the instant falling in love, sweet talking nicknames, inappropriate behavior between a teacher/student and generally just way too much rush rush rush.
More time should have been taken for them to interact in the classroom and such before they were talking about being "together" and some of the revelations about his personal life and how everyone was handling it were a bit far-fetched to me, even for a fictional romance. I like there to be some realism with the fantasy or else I lose interest and basically skim through the book to get to the good parts (and pass over all the sexual stuff). I also didn't know this was a "to be continued" story...nowhere in the description did it say that it was not a complete story...so now after finishing this one, I still didn't get an HEA or any kind of resolution. Disappointed to say the least.

*I received an ARC from the Author for an Honest Review*

I have to say "WOW"....OMG OMG OMG...I didn't want it to end. I need the next book like right now!

This is a very loving and touching story. It may not all be butterflies and rainbows, and the situation may be difficult at times, but truely breath taking.

Juliana is beautiful, strong and admirable. Mr. Stone is Hot,sexy and any sane woman would want a piece of him! WOW...Total hotness, like panty dripping hotness! OH - And there is a brother! I am not going to get into details, but I wouldn't mind the double trouble! hehe

Rene told the story so well that you could feel the emotion and the intensity. The sex scenes were vivid enough that you felt like it was happening to you.....yes, I could feel the tingling! Just WOW!

And there is the best friend Sid. She is the amazing friend we all hope to have by our side. Knowing that you have someone that would drop everything for you no matter what, is truely amazing and you should hold onto that friendship forever.

Rene, I can't wait for the next book! I will try to wait patiently, but not sure how well that is going to work out! You are an amazing writer. Thank you for giving us an amazing story! I am definitely Team Rene!

The book starts immediately with the story. It does not drag. Juliana is running a little late for her photography class. She is struggling to find a parking spot. Just as she sees a spot open, someone comes in and take her spot. When she walks into the class, she notices that the man who took her spot also happens to be her new photography professor who also happens to be one of the most attractive men she has ever seen. She knows she is not supposed to find her professor attractive, but it is so hard to resist him when she can’t fight her attraction or the way he makes her feel.

I loved the initial emails between Aiden and Juliana.

I felt at times there was too much inner dialogue. In the beginning it was hard for me to connect with Aiden and Juliana. Just when I felt a connection something would happen or be discussed and I would lose the connection. I was struggling with how Juliana had so many different thoughts and feelings at times. However, as the story continued, I begun to understand the heroine and was able to connect.
The storyline kept my interest. I wanted to know who Juliana was running from. There was a more than just a romance between a student and her professor.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Talk about instant attraction. The last thing Julia Peterson needed was to feel a connection to her new photography professor. Not sure how to handle her attraction to him, she tries for standoffish, but doesn't quite pull it off.

Knowing that a romance between a student and professor is off-limits, she does her best to put space between them, even going as far as going on a date with someone else - which fizzles quickly.

What else can go wrong with Julia's life -- her ex is back and he scares the crap out of her -- something she really doesn't want to share with anyone other than her best friend.

I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job in fleshing out Julia's character and bringing her vulnerability to the forefront.

I can't want to read the 2nd book so see how the next chapter in Julia's unfolds.

A forbidden love, and a past that won't stay in the past. When Julia meets Mr. Stone sparks fly instantly. He's a teacher and she's his student and that may be the easy part. Julia's unpleasant past is back in full force. A past that she has tried to forget, but the scars are unrelenting.
Aiden is super hot and sexy. I wonder about some of the things he did. Julia is super sweet and friendly. Great supporting character as well.
When I read the last page, the words out of my mouth were WTF! I need more, Rene did not just end this like this. Rene did a wonderful job in reeling me in. Julia and Aiden could not get it on fast enough for me. The heat between them was fierce. But as they say all good things come to those who wait. Then there was that part where I was like WTH? I did not see that coming. Needless to say many bumps or twist in the road that kept me glued and wanting more.
Lets talk this about this cover. It is beautiful. Truth is, I wanted to read the book because of the cover alone and the storyline was just a bonus!

I was thoroughly impressed with this book!! LOVED the characters (ALL OF THEM) and their interactions with one another, it's SO rare that I can say that about a book - even MORE rare that I can say that about the heroine.
I think I'm in love with Juliana, she's impressive in her strength, resilience, and tenacity. The student/teacher dynamic isn't creepy, as it can sometime be in books of this subject, it's actually endearing.
Aiden Stone is sexy, smart, and sweet - the chemistry between the two is out of this world!
The story line, while not completely unique, has it's own redeeming qualities and the sub-plot totally hooked me. The characters are really what drew me in and kept me enthralled with this story. CAN NOT WAIT TO READ THE 2ND BOOK!!

I saw a lot of great reviews for this book so when I saw a chance to get a freebie I couldn't turn it down. It was alright, had I had to pay for it I would of been disappointed. Everybody loves a good sex scene, and this did..... But at the same I found myself skimming pages. It was just too slow! I wanted to really see all the suspense and excitement come alive and sadly it didn't. It's not much of a forbidden love when they show no resistance for each other right from the gecko. The insta-love also did not work for this book. It was all too corny and Blecccck. Julia was too needy and weak for me. Even a damsel in distress can still attempt to fight back. Aiden was eh alright, not swoon worthy. Coda had more of a reaction out of me then Aiden and his part in this book was tiny. I was most defiantly not surprised by the ending as everything seemed to hint that the brothers were much closer then just twins. I am not sure if I will read the 2nd book yet or not, again the reviews seem awesome and all but i didn't really agree with them this time around.

This is the first book I've read by this author & I totally loved it.
I loved the storyline throughout this book. The sexual tension had me wanting to throw Julia into the arms of her professor, Aiden.
This is one of them books where I just had to sit & read until I had it finished. The author did a great job of grabbing my attention & keeping it there throughout. It took a lot of will power for me not to skip to the end to see what happens!!
Fantastic read which I'll certainly be recommending to my friends.
Although this doesn't end in a cliff hanger I'm very much looking forward to reading the next part of this series.

Shuttered Affection by Rene Folsom

Julia and Aiden's story was hot from the start, so confusing for them both but they can't help what they want, and they want it. Rene has again written an amazing story full of romance and hot sex and I know in my heart #2 is about to combust with the heat. This is a story of twist and turns that keeps you on edge of your seat.
A lot happens in the book I couldn't put it down, it is written so well, I love Rene's style.
Five bright stars, can't wait for number two.

I have never read anything from Rene that I didn't completely enjoy. This Novel was NO exception!! I was so happy to get the chance to read this and post for its release day. It was a book thats characters grabbed me from that first scene.

Julia is SUCH a great character! With so many dimensions to her personality and such great development its hard not to fall for her from the start. I mean screaming at someone stealing your parking spot: Heck yes that's me. Very relatable and just overall enjoyable.

Aiden. Oh Mr. Stone. Now him on the other had just woo's you from the start. A breath on the neck. A Swipe of his hand on your back!!! Omg I do believe I fainted a few times with the first half of this book. He was so gentle and yet so rough all at the same time. He was another very well-developed character and one I could find no flaws in! & The twists with twists that were thrown in!  yep. That had me laughing at some points and definitely hot and bothered at others.

The story line was fantastic. It was attention keepings and interesting. It wasn't one of those that had me totally twisted up about what was going to happen, but grabbed me and had me waiting for the next clue that was coming our way. It felt like a mystery you slowly began to see parts of once Julia let you. Wonderfully done.

Overall very well written  and easy to read. Well paced and it ending in a GREAT place. I can just leave you with my mouth was WIDE open and I cannot wait for book two. A must read this fall.

This Novel Grounder is definitely riding a Book Hangover.

Synopsis

After escaping to a college town, Juliana Petersen was determined to put her troubled past behind her and make the most of life. She was satisfied with her current situation, or so she thought. It wasn’t until the day her new photography professor stole her parking spot that she realized there was such thing as lust at first sight. Now, she must struggle with the decision to break the rules and fall in love, or step back and let the chance of a lifetime pass her by—all while her past relationships come back to haunt her.

How many men will it take to break Julia’s hold on reality?

Warning: This novel contains sexual situations and is meant for adult readers ages 18 and up.

Excerpt

The electricity in the air told me he was coming closer. Footsteps, barely audible, whispered along the floor behind me.

My hands fumbled for the canister. I needed to pop the top off and carefully remove the film.

I could feel him close behind me. He was really close. As I successfully removed the film from its canister, I could feel him move even nearer. I felt his breath by my ear and heard him gasp slightly as a curl fell forward and must have brushed against his face.

I was just about done putting the film around the reel when I felt his finger slowly push the tendril of hair back behind my ear.

I deftly finished coiling the film and placed it in the developing tank. Once the lid was in place, effectively protecting my film from light exposure, I spoke.

“Okay. I’m good.” My voice was barely a whisper. I didn’t seem to have the strength to muster any more volume.

“Mmhmm…” he moaned in my ear. “Your hair smells divine, Angel.”

I felt his hand brush against the back of my ear and push my hair to the side, exposing my neck to his touch. I felt his breath on me and, suddenly, it was as if all the oxygen in the room had been used up completely. I couldn’t breathe.

“You’re so beautiful, even in darkness,” he said adoringly and I felt the tickle of his breath on my neck.

Warmth sizzled through my abdomen, my clit pulsed, and my nipples hardened. His words whispered through my ears, seductive and alluring.

His body pressed against my back and he wrapped his hands around my waist, sticking his thumbs into the waistband of my jeans. His fingers gently touched my hipbones. His touch made me arch my back and tilt my head to rest on his shoulder.

His lips, hot as fire, brushed along the column of my neck. I wanted to turn my body and wrap myself around him, but he held me in place.

“Aiden, I thought we were going to try and behave ourselves,” I said breathlessly as he continued his assault on my neck.

“I don’t care,” he mumbled, clearly aware he was melting me to the bone.

Animalistic lust took us over. Grabbing my shoulders, he quickly turned me so my chest pressed against his and shoved my back up against the wall with just enough force to tell me he was turned on as much as I was.

As if attempting to control his urges, he let go of me and I felt his hands press against the wall on either side of my head, just above my shoulders.

“Oh, God. I want to touch you,” he said hoarsely. “I want to touch every inch of you.”

I could tell his lips were so close. The tip of his nose brushed against mine, causing me to involuntarily tilt my head upward, attempting to close the gap between our lips. As if he sensed me pouncing, he turned his chin up, causing me to meet the scruffy facial hair on his jaw.

Unable to see my prey, I reached out and dug my nails into his strong back, pulling him closer to me and lightly sinking my teeth into his jaw. If he wasn’t going to offer his lips to me, I was going to take whatever part of him I could get between my teeth.

As if on cue, a rumble echoed from his throat. His hands snaked down my body, grabbing my ass and pulling me against him.

The move was so bold; I thought for sure he was going to kiss me. Instead, he tilted his head up, exposing his neck to my nibbling assault.

His body, hot and hard, pressed me against the cold, concrete wall. His hands, still on my ass, lifted me slightly so I was forced to the tips of my toes.

I felt his mouth on my neck again and couldn’t help voicing my pleasure.

“Oh, Aiden. Kiss me now,” I begged. I didn’t know why I had to beg this man to press his lips against mine. I only knew I needed more. So much more.

“Tell me, Juliana. Do you want me?” he asked softly, caressing my ear with his lips.

“Christ, yes!” My answer left my mouth before I even had time to process what I was saying. I was quite simply speechless.

“Then you shall have me… eventually.” With that, he let go, opened the door, and walked out.

I was left standing there, completely overwhelmed, and aching with desire.

About the Author

Rene Folsom, author of paranormal romance and erotica, lives in Florida with her husband and three kids. She has officially diagnosed herself with creative ADD and, if it weren't for her day job as a web programmer, she would have a million and one writing projects going at once. In addition to web design, she is also a graphic artist who loves to create custom book cover designs for indie authors. She is definitely an artist at heart and would love nothing more than to be elbow deep in clay during her waking hours.

Rene believes that all fiction is based on some form of reality—otherwise we would never have the inspiration or knowledge to dream up the realistic situations we portray with our words. She is proud to say that her personal experiences have been inspirational, though perhaps not always identical to that of her fictional characters. Where reality and fantasy diverge, however, must remain her little secret...

4.5 Earth “Shuttering” Stars

I will start off by saying this is the fifth attempt at writing this review lol. At first, I was angry with the ending. It just stopped. Ran out of Road. Completely fell off the cliff. So my first rating was a 3. Then, I read my favorite highlighted parts again and thought more about my rating and realized a 3 wasn’t fair, it got a 3.5. As I was about to submit it last night I started questioning myself again.
This story truly did capture me from page one. I know some think with the professor/student story you have been there and done that. But like I said I was hooked from page one.
Julia totally has my attitude and foul mouth lol. She’s running late on her way to class and while waiting for a parking spot, bam Mr. Hottie Tottie pulled in and took it from her. He was cocky yet she could tell her radiated confidence. She didn’t care, she was pissed. So naturally her middle finger flies out the window with a few choice words my mother would rather I not use. As she finally arrived to class, late of course because of the cocky shithead, she was completely taken off guard when Mr. SH was her new teacher. Instantly there was this chemistry. This pull. This spark. I believe in these first time feelings because I would be lying to say I have never experienced them. She tries her hardest to fight the gravitational pull but it proves to be too much of a challenge. “Such a feeling over a simple touch should not be possible. It was like a million tiny fireflies scalded my insides, leaving me breathless as his fingers grazed just over my ass.” Julia
Their time together starts small. A couple texts that turn into phone calls that morph into lunches. They are so taken with each other I could literally feel their chemistry as I read. Aiden isn’t your typical professor that we have all read about. Yes he’s hot, yes he’s young, yes he’s off limits BUT he has such a soft and beautiful side. He isn’t as domineering as I first thought he would be and that was such a relief. I really don’t want to tell you more about the gem of a book because I feel you should have the right to experience all the emotions I did as you read it. However, I will leave you with a lil something that has me pulling for Julia and Aiden in book 2.
“Thank You, my sweet Aiden. I don’t think I’ve ever been cared for so much and it makes me feel… special, cherished, loved.” Julia
…Skip down a lil…
“You could never be a burden, Angel. And you are all of those things… he trailed off as he gently turned his chair toward me and scooted so we were close, my legs fitting perfectly between his. After he was positioned, still holding both of my hands to his mouth, he continued. “Special, because there is only one person who can capture my heart like you have. Cherished, because I know each day with you is a blessing and I would be a fool not to treat you like the fragile jewel that you are. Loved…” he stopped...
So you see, I just couldn’t give this book a 3.5 because of its ending. The author promptly followed up with book 2 so it isn’t like we have to wait forever. To me, that earned her an extra star. Julia and Aiden was so refreshing to read and I look forward to book 2 from Rene Folsom <3

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for my honest review

3.75 stars

This is the first book in the Cornerstone series and although it touches on a kind of taboo subject of teacher/student relationship it isn’t really a forbidden storyline as the main characters are only a few years apart in age.

Juliana Petersen has run away from her past with an abusive ex and is now happily condo sharing with her best friend and attending college to study arts and photography. However on a day she was running late and not being able to find a parking spot she finally gets lucky only to have the spot pinched by an annoyingly attractive man with an enigmatic smile. It was lust at first sight! When she finds out who he is she will be in for a shock.

Aidan Stone is the new photography teacher who is brought in late to cover the course due to the previous teacher having to retire on ill health. Hence he has no teacher parking spot allocated which leads to him needing to get a spot in the student’s lot to the utter annoyance of the breathtakingly beautiful blonde he beat to the post. He was then taken aback when his late to class student arrives and it is the beauty from the car park!

The story there after takes on a ‘will they won’t they’ dance with a few twists and turns thrown in which leads the reader on a journey of surprises and suspense.

I do like the writing style of this author and this is my first forage into Ms Folsom’s work. However I did feel there was a certain something missing that would have added an element of engrossment for me. I found myself at times getting side tracked by everyday life whereas when I am totally involved in a read usually nothing can pull me away from my kindle.

I liked the character of Aidan although I wouldn’t class him as an alpha male he was still an attractive enticement. One point though I found so irritating was his overuse of ‘Angel’ or ‘Angel, mine’ which constantly reminded me of a certain paranormal read from way back.

I can’t say I felt anything for Julia as I like my female leads to be strong or at least show an inclining of some kick-assery but she needed more backbone. I know this is the first book so I can only hope she goes on to win me over.

The author left the reader with a real conundrum at the end but I must admit it left a spark of ‘now we’re on it!’ for me. Lucky for me I have the next book as an ARC so I can jump straight in to find out. This is a good thing as it means all will not need to wait a lifetime for the next instalment. I know we all hate cliffies!

Overall an enjoyable read which has left me wanting to discover more in the Aidan and Julia (and….nope my lips are sealed!) story.

I went to college for a year and specifically remember other students pointing out the girls that sleep with the college professors for their grades.  I never really understood it... Not only sleeping with someone for a grade, but sleeping with someone for ANY reason other than physical attraction or love.  BUT it happens, all the time.  This story is based about a college professor and students relationship but it's not one based on sex.  Their romance isn't gross or disturbing- they are relatively close in age and they meet outside of the classroom for the first time.

Julia Peterson, a young woman majoring in fine arts, attends college full-time while working as a bartender at a hit club.  Aiden Stone, a professor, meets Julia when he takes her parking spot in the students lot his first day.  They start off on a rough note, Julia pissed off because her spot was taken, having to find another far away, making her late for class.  Who does she find when she opens the door?  Mr. Stone introducing himself to his students.

Julia has a stalker ex boyfriend who leaves threatening notes for her inside and outside of her apartment.  After years of abuse from her boyfriend, Julia runs away with her best friend Sidney, only to later be found again.  Not only does her ex threaten her, but he threatens Sidney and Aiden, too.  He calls Julia a slut, tells her she can't get away from him, and so on.  Julia reports her past history and the abuse to the police and shows them the notes he leaves.  However, the police are unable to take any measures by arresting her ex because he technically hasn't broken any laws.

Will Julia ever be able to escape her past and move on from the torture her ex conflicts on her?  Will Aiden and Julia's teacher-student relationship take off?  If so, will they ever be able to be serious despite having to hide their affections/love for each other?  Will Julia ever be able to sleep soundly and stop fearing the wrath of her ex boyfriend?  Will the ex come between Julia and Aiden?

This story was a cute- I enjoyed reading it.  I can't personally bash any parts of the writing in this book but I did feel that it lacked a strong storyline.  I wanted some more action, dilemma, maybe even heartbreak.  Something to make me want to turn the pages- but I didn't find that UMPH I was looking for here.  Does that make sense? Lol!  The love story composed in the literature is adorable and different from most- student and teacher- but with that kind of a relationship, there deems more problems then the average relationship.  Maybe that's what I was looking for, I'm not sure.  I just had somewhat of a hard time staying interested.
