Light Beyond the Darkness

Rate this book
Wanting to forget the magical world from whence she came, lightbearer Carley Santiago seeks sanctuary in the human world. But when she meets shifter Reid Hennigan, she finds her heart is not so easily controlled. As passion turns to love, Carley finds that keeping secrets and hiding from her past could be dangerous for them both – fatally dangerous. Welcome back to Tami Lund’s magical world in Light Beyond the Darkness, Book 3 of her paranormal romance series, Lightbearer.

Carley was once the premier chef for the King of the Lightbearers. But when her mate pushes her over a cliff and she miraculously survives, she flees the coterie, knowing he will want to finish the job. She figures hiding in the human world is the best way to ensure her safety.

While working as a chef at one of Chicago’s top restaurants, she meets Reid Hennigan, a lone shifter running from his own past. Carley tries to push him away—she wants nothing to do with anyone from the magical community, even a persistent shifter who insists he only wants to show her pleasure.

Reid Hennigan is another reject from Quentin Lyons’ defunct pack. When he received word his pack master was dead, Reid ran away, having no interest in being forced to be subservient to another abusive pack master. Unfortunately for Reid, shifters are hardwired to be part of a pack, and soon he is wandering aimlessly through life, with no clear idea of what to do next. When he stumbles upon the shy lightbearer working at a restaurant in Chicago, he discovers a new lease on life.

Passion turns to love, and Reid figures his life is pretty damn perfect, despite no longer belonging to a pack. But Carley has secrets of her own, and her secrets could be fatal—to both of them.

This book is my favorite out of the three. We've known Carley from the first two books and she's been one of my favorite side characters. Quiet, and gun shy, she still always tries to do the right thing no matter the cost to herself.

Reid is gorgeous, protective and a little bit of a loner. Sounds like the perfect alpha male.

The two of them together is just beautiful.

As always the authors writing draws you in and doesn't let go until you snap the book shut and wonder when the next one is coming out. Tami Lund knows how to write shifter romances that will keep you coming back for more.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. Ms. Lund has once again brought her lightbearer/shifter series to life for her readers. Her readers will fall in love with Reid and Carlie just as they did with Tanner, Olivia, Finn and CiCi.

Sorry but I don't give spoilers in my reviews so you will have to take my word for it that this book is well worth it. I was anxiously awaiting this book and was not disappointed. I guess now I will have to anxiously await Book 4.

RECIPE FOR LOVE !!!
Title: Light Beyond Darkness
Series: Lightbearer
Author: Tami Lund
Designation: Book Three of Series, Can Be Read As Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Full-Length Paranormal Romance
Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited
My Rating: Five Captivating Stars*****
Jackpot! Tami Lund has done it again! And just what has she done, you ask? Well, she's delivered another masterpiece of paranormal romance filled to the brim with adventure, magic, fantasy and sweet, dreamy love. Oh my! We have another winner! Light Beyond Darkness is deliciously cute, seriously sexy, completely captivating and delightfully entertaining. The story is exciting, fast paced, enchanting, original, well developed, sweet, romantic, sensual and oh so dreamy. Sigh....The dialogue is smart, light, exceptionally well written and flows beautifully. The characters are captivating, engaging, endearing, sometimes funny and sexy as sin. The characters are the heart and soul of this series. They draw you in, grab your heart, capture your imagination and hold you prisoner from beginning to end. Tami Lund has once again skillfully combined these elements into a deliciously entertaining read. Carley Santiago was once the head chef for the Lightbearer King but after her mate tries to kill her, she flees the Coterie to live in the human world. Carley has failed at just about everything in her life but the one thing she knows is food and cooking. The fact that she was good enough to cook for the King is, after all what landed her in her current predicament. So, she does the only thing she knows, she becomes a chef at one of Chicago's top restaurants. And she was finally beginning to put the past behind her, until he walked into her restaurant. Of all the restaurants in all the world, he had to walk into hers. Oh, sorry - wrong movie. (Just a little humor, folks) He was handsome, hot and sex on a stick, and a shifter - the last thing in the world needed. No, no, no! This couldn't happen, not to her. Since the dawn of time, shifters and lightbearers have been mortal enemies fueled by the belief of many that by killing a lightbearer, you could inherit their magic. But today in Carly's home world, the Coterie, Olivia, the princess of the Lightbearers is mated to a shifter, Tanner Lyons and Olivia is pregnant with their first child, the first interspecies babe ever to be born. And that child will grow up to eventually become the king of the Lightbearers. But Tanner and his friend, Finn are the exception to the rule. She simply can not trust other shifters, especially the super sexy Reid Hennigan. Yep, I said Hennigan. Now, why does that name sound familiar? Hmmm.....Reid Hennigan fled his pack and his family when he learned of the death of his cruel leader, Quentin Lyons. He would take his chances in the human world. He would never be subservient to another cruel pack master. Nope, he would enjoy the world and all the human women. Besides, all he really wants is to satisfy his libido and although human women seemed far too high maintenance for him, he could still use them to scratch his itch. Yep - just sex, that's all! He wanted to play the field - never get serious and never take a mate! Until he touched that blasted plate - until her! Why did he have to go in that restaurant? He just can't understand this inexplicable attraction to this woman, this lightbearer - this Carley. He just wanted to have sex with her and get it out of his system. Right? It couldn't be anything else. Could it? Nope, he would never settle down and take a mate! Not him! Never say never! Reid is determined but Carly has secrets, very dangerous secrets that could endanger not only her life but also the lives of the people she loves. And just what are those secrets? You'll just have to read the book to find out! No spoilers here but I will say this...... Handsome, sexy shifters-check! Beautiful lightbearer chef-check! Wonderful cast of new and familiar characters-check! Danger, drama, adventure, suspense and heinous enemies-check! Magic, heated attraction, fiery passion, angst and sweet romance-you bet! I loved it! I can hardly wait to see who's next in the series and just what mischief Tami will cook up for us next!!! Get it? Cook up??? Another little bit of my horrible humor. I have read all three books of the series and can guarantee that I will be reading all the others. Although it would be helpful to read the first two, I don't think it's absolutely necessary in order to enjoy this book but it certainly would enrich the reading experience. Fabulous entertainment and an amazing read!!!

Light Beyond the Darkness Book Three, Lightbearer series by Tami Lund

What a unique concept. Lightbearers are magical beings that replenish their magic from sunlight. Without the rays of the sun a Lightbearer will eventually die. They have been hidden away for over five hundred years, never seen, but the myths still survive. They hid from the Fae who created them and the Shifters who want their magic. Now that the Lightbearer Princess Olivia has mated with Tanner Lyons, a wolf shifter, a pack master’s son, their peaceful life has been turned upside down.

Dawning of Light Book 2 in the Lightbearer series picks up where Into the Light ends. Princess Olivia is carrying the heir to the Lightbearer throne and her cousin and best friend Cecilia Druthers keeps getting into trouble. Tanner assigns Finnegan to keep Cecilia out of trouble but sparks fly between this “odd couple.”

In Light Beyond the Darkness the third book in the Lightbearer series, Carley Santiago has left the coterie, the hidden home of the Lightbearers, to hide in the human world of Chicago. When Carley meets Reid Hennigan, a wolf shifter with no pack, all the fears that drove her from her home find her again, in Chicago. Will Carley and Reid be able to overcome the scars that have damaged their abilities to love? What are the secrets that they both are hiding? Who is it that forced Carley to leave the only home she had ever known? Will Carley learn to feel the passion that Reid has tried to show her?

I love this series so much. I highly recommend that the series be read in the order written, as much history is learned and people met that will play a part in books to follow. Tami Lund has created a new supernatural creature with the Lightbearers. Just when I thought I had the story all figured out, the twists and turns of the plot kept me reading late into the night. Tami’s characters obviously speak to her as she is able to show us their darkest fears and greatest expectations. The story has adventure, suspense, incredible fights/violence and HOT sexual situations. This is a love story. This is a story of two people learning to trust, to love and to believe.

Tami Lund's dedication of Into the Light touched me,

"For you, because you want to believe too." I believe!

I received an ARC for an honest review, and the third book in this series is the perfect addition to this continuing story. Lightbearer, Carly, has suffered from a lifetime of abuse. Yet she’s a survivor and knows her own worth. Enter one overbearing and sexually aggressive shifter named Reid. A man who knows what he wants and is dedicated to pursuing it until he gets it. Typically, in other stories I’ve read, the abused party ends up with an overly sensitive partner. In this case, the author was able to beautifully temper the alpha-male lead with a masculine sensitivity and patience, while still maintaining his intensity. There’s a scene where he reaches for her and she flinches. He instinctively realizes she’s been a victim of abuse from that moment. It doesn’t change him, but it does change his actions. The author does a fabulous job of walking that thin line. It just works in this story. His confidence and intensity actually help to strengthen her own, giving her room to make her own decisions and defend herself. I’ve read the previous two books in this series, and was happy to see the stories of Tanner and Olivia, and Cecilia and Finn, continue here as supporting characters. I had to laugh when Cecilia turns to Carly and says, “So what’s the plan?” Great follow up. I recommend this series to those who enjoy paranormal romance or urban fantasy.

I was provided a free copy in return for an honest review.

This story can be read as a stand alone, but you will better understand the nuances having read the prior stories in this series. Carley was down but not out. She has pulled herself up from her bootstraps and has put together a life outside of the cortiere. She is able to continue cooking which is her passion and if her life is lonely, at least she makes the decision within her world. Reid was unexpected and unwilling to take no. It doesn't help that Carley, for the first time in her life, actually attracted to a male. I loved how tender Reid is with Carley. He is an Alpha and used to getting who and what he wants, but he is different with Carley. He has patience that surprises even him. I love how Reid and Carley are together. Ms. Lund did a wonderful job of showing their courtship. Carley is wounded and needs the time. Reid is also wounded and surprised by how Carley helps in ways that surprise them both. This story is well developed. It is full of emotion, love and laughter. Ms. Lund gave us twists that were unexpected but fit the story. It is well worth taking the time to read the next installment in this series.

Lightbearer Carley stole my heart in book 2 of this series and captured it more in this book. She is so loving and only wants what she has been denied for so long. She is an amazing chef and when Reid shows up in the restaurant she is working at she isn't sure what she should do. Sparks start to fly between the 2 and slowly love begins to blossom but both have a secret they aren't willing to share. Those secrets begin to come out slowly throughout this book but not by them. They say love concurs all and I truly believe it concurred everything they had strived to keep from each other only to protect what they have. This story is filled with so much heartache, love, and destruction it makes you feel as if there is nothing that can bring these 2 together but as I said love concurs all. Tami Lund did an excellent job bringing these characters to life and pulling everyone together.

I was given this book for an honest review.

This series just continues to get better and better. You have to lost souls both dealing with their own emotional baggage who happened to stumble upon one another Carley is determined to do anything and everything in her power to stay away from Reid but he can't seem to take no for an answer he determined to get to know Carly better even if that means showing up at her job every single day and also showing up at her house unannounced. Reid doesn't know what it is about Carley that has him hooked all he knows is that her food is incredible and he can't seem to get enough of her. Carley doesn't know what it is that Reid sees in her but little by little he breaks down the barriers that she's put around herself but she knows that this relationship can't go nowhere because she's mate. Overall this was A excellent read it has everything that you look for in a great book lies, deceit, psycho husband, can't wait to see what's going to happen next in the series.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, I loved this book. This is the third book in the Lightbearer series. This books starts where the last one ended - this really keeps the suspense going. We know from the second book that Carley, chef to the King, was cruelly pushed down an icy flight of stairs presumably to her death. We find that Carley fearing for her life has left the Coterie. She is living and working at a restaurant in Chicago. Reid Hennigan, a lone shapeshifter wanders into a restaurant to find something irresistible, Carley. Both are damaged physically and mentally but together they start to heal each other. Carley has a secret that could change everything. This story has great likable characters, good story line, drama, and humor. I look forward to MANY more in this series. P.S. you get to also glimpse into the lives of the other characters as their relationships move forward.

This is the third book in the series and my favorite. I loved Carley and Reid. We've gotten to know Carley from the first two books and I know I want her to get her HEA. Reid stumbles across the lightbearer all by accident or is it fate? After everything she has gone through in her life Carley is very wary of Reid's attention, but as we get to know him he is just what Carley needs. The stronger feelings between the two begin to grow, but Carley is keeping a secret that could ruin everything. Someone from Carley's past rears his ugly head and causes so much trouble for her. Reid on the other hand wants nothing to with any type of pack or relationship, but spending time with Carley makes begin to crave those entanglements. What will happen when the truth comes out? Can they have a future? I loved the epilogue it was the perfect way to end this one.

I have been enjoying this series since book #1 and Tami Lund has made a fan out of me! I love the interaction between the different lightbearers and shifters in each story and can't wait for the next one to come out. I was so happy to see Carly get the happiness that she truly deserved after a lifetime of not getting to make any of her own choices that truly mattered. I also loved how much Ms. Lund overlapped characters from the previous two books in the series so that everything was connected and made the storyline flow. From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down and was hard pressed to stop even to sleep. I am truly hoping there will be more books in this series because I just don't want it to end! Tami Lund is certainly on my list of author's to watch for the next new release.....and I am sure nothing she writes will disappoint.

The third installment of the Lightbearer series gives readers a chance to get to know Lightbearer chef extraordinaire, Carley Santiago, and introduces you to Reid Hennigan, Finn's brother. The two meet in Chicago, where they are both hiding from their magical natures, and sparks fly, literally. Carley is a Lightbearer, after all.

This book takes readers from Chicago over to Nashville, and finally, back to the Lightbearer's coterie. All your favorite characters from the first two books return in this one, and there might be a setup or two for future storylines.

One thing is certain: life is never dull when the Lightbearers and the shifters who hate to love them are involved. Add it to your TBR today!

I love this series. I enjoy that this is different from the other paranormal romance that I have read. This one is about Carly who we met in the previous books but we get to find out more about her and what happened to her. We meet Reid who is a shifter that discovers Carly and can't seem to explain his attraction to her but he won't give up even when she keeps pushing him away. They both have issues to deal with from their past but can they make it work or will it come back to haunt them and keep them apart. I love that there are returning characters and we get to see what is going on in their life and I also loved the epilogue. This book is definitely worth the read. I was given an ARC for a fair and honest review.

This is the 3rd installment of this series and as good as the 1st 2 books. In this one we meet up with the the amazing royal chef Carley who's been hiding in Chicago with the humans. One night on a date Reid Finn's brother stumbles upon her and there starts their story. I don't want to give the story away but as they get to know each other they both help each other until the past comes back for both of them though in different ways. Come visit with the favorites from the other books and new characters as Reid and Carley's story is told. Love what happens when the shifters and Lightbearers come together and so will you!

I received this as an ARC for a honest review. Now, I may or may not post spoilers so read on if you dare!

I HIGHLY enjoyed this book from the start it had me sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to rush to the next encounter between the 2 main people. Then later between them and the bad guy!

All I can say is this is a fabulous read! Lots of twists and turns. lots of hot steamy sex scenes! With some serious butt kicking going on. But if you really want a great read, even if this is a stand alone book you should read the others in this set so you know ALL.

I was lucky to read book 1 but missed out on book 2.. and this is book 3 is amazing!!

Loved it. But then again, I am a super-fan and I am pretty sure Mrs Lund could write the phone book and make it interesting.

I really enjoyed getting to read about Carly and Reid, they made a great couple from the start. I think that Reid is probably my favorite of the hero's from this series, although I am sure there are more to come and that may yet change.

Mrs Lund has mastered this world, which is so close to our own, but not. Her stories draw you in and leave you wanting more. Which I am.

I just need to let everyone know right off the bat that Tami Lund is just such a nice person. Really. I feel the need to say this because she sought me out through Romancing the Book and let me read the third installment of her book for the blog. She didn't have to do that and I wanted to say thank you for allowing me to read your work. I truly love this series and I'm getting emotionally invested into these "people".

This book, which is the third installment of the series deals with Carly and Reid. This is a series but each book is it's own story. There are some elements from previous books that will be carried over into the new books, but I feel that Tami covers the important information so that the reader understands what's going on if they haven't read any of the books that came before. I would highly recommend reading all three books, they're worth reading.

Carly has been through so much and is so strong mentally. I don't think Carly realizes how strong she is. She's still healing emotionally and physically from past trauma. She's such a likable character because she's so flawed, she's caring, compassionate, and realizes the mistakes she's made and is willing to admit to them.

Reid is also another character that has gone through so much and is strong physically as well as mentally. He's not afraid to go after what he wants. He also realizes the mistakes that he's made and is determined not to make those same mistakes again. I loved the scene when he tracks down Carly and introduces himself to her. Pure shifter style. If the reader has read any of the books, you'll understand what I mean when I say that. Reid has a vulnerability about him that Carly responds to. She can't help it. These two characters are drawn to each other.

I think what resonates so deeply with me is that these books touch on some of what's happening in the real world. Intolerance, race relations (the lightbearers and the shfters), having the belief that one race is better or superior then the other, not believing that the shifters and the lightbearers should mate each other and have children. I love how Tami touches on all of these problems. She's gentle with her characters and the problems they face, but she's also not afraid to tackle these extreamly real and prevelant problems within her world.

Go, give this series a try, check out her web site, indulge in all things Tami. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Edge of your Seat Perfection

I thought for a moment I might have to hunt down Tami and strangle her a little, but a las it was fine. This book was wonderful to read as you watched Reid and Carley fall in love with each other. Of course they both had terrible secrets for each other they could tear them apart.

Carley has a mate if he isn't dead, but she doesn't know. But she is too afraid to tell Reid because she is afraid she will lose him. This book will make you laugh and cry and wonder will anyone be truly happy.

Bring the Kleenex and discover if Carley and Reid will get what they want.

Until Next Time.... Tabi

The stupidity is astounding. Why is it women always need a man to protect and take care of them? Guess what? It's not the 1800's, women can take care of themselves and in some cases they even take care of the man. Why do female authors always make their female MC helpless? It's annoying.

Carley is a lightbearer who left her coterie after her mate, Miguel, pushes her off a cliff expecting her to die. She fleas and ends up in Chicago as a chef.

Reid is a shifter from Quentin's pack. After all the destruction he saw within the pack, he leaves to try and find a life for himself.

Reid ends up dining at the restaurant where Carley works. As soon as he touches the plate she prepared, he senses her magic. He sets out to make her his. Eventually she gives up her fear and submits to him. It is then that her life truly begins.
Reid reunites with his family and the both end up back at the coterie.
Miguel who has been in hiding, sees her and puts his plan in motion to finish what he started. But this time he wants to include Reid.

This book is my favorite of this series. The lines between black and white don't exist for Reid and I love this behavior from him.

Very well written. This series is a must read.

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Tami Lund. This is book 3 of the Lightbearer series by the author.

Carley Santiago is a chef in a restaurant in Chicago and she has a passion for cooking. Reid Hennigan is a lone shifter but when he has a meal in the place where Carley works he can't get her out of his mind. Can Carley keep running from her past and the man who tried to kill her and trust Reid or will it end in heartache again.

The characters and their interacting is great in this story. The author wrote Carley with such feeling that I felt she was an average person.

This is for any paranormal romance book lover.

WOW.. I think this one was my favorite of the series so far. The looming darkness and threat, the damage that haunted the two main characters pasts.. sucked me right in and I even lost track of time while I was reading I became so entwined with what was going on and it had me on the edge of my seat I couldn't wait to turn the page to see where the story was going to lead next. This is by far one of my favorite series to read, Tami Lund has done an excellent job and I look forward to reading many more of their books.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the first two books in the Lightbearer series and this book was a fantastic addition to the series. Carley is a great MC and Reid is probably my favorite shifter in this series. He is the perfect alpha male while still being sensitive to Carley's difficult past. I liked the change of scenery to Chicago as well. I'm a big fan and I look forward to all of Ms. Lund's new releases. This one did not disappoint! I loved it and I would highly recommend it to shifter fans and paranormal romance fans.
