Michelle Van Dyke

Van Dyke Bolsters Orange in Post

9/2/2014 1:57:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Syracuse women's basketball has added 6-6 center Michelle Van Dyke.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse women's basketball head coach Quentin Hillsman has announced the addition of Michelle Van Dyke to the Orange roster for 2014-15. A 6-6 center from Franklin Lakes, N.J., she has three years of eligibility.

Van Dyke brings imposing size and good mobility to the center position for the Orange. She joins sophomore twins Bria Day and Briana Day and freshman Amber Witherspoon in the post for SU, which lost Shakeya Leary to graduation.

"Michelle is a welcome addition to our program," Hillsman said. "Her size and mobility give us added depth at the post position. I look forward to her contributing to our play in the post on both ends of the floor."

Van Dyke was a two-time First Team All-League performer in 2011 and 2012 for Eastern Christian High School, in addition to a First Team All-County nod in 2012 after earning honorable mention honors the previous year.

She played her AAU basketball for the Rockland Rockets.

A sophomore at Syracuse, Van Dyke did not play basketball her senior year of high school so she could graduate early and enroll at SU.

An accomplished volleyball player, Van Dyke was a four-year middle blocker at Eastern Christian, earning All-County honors.
