Cody Almond Returns to Switzerland

Wild forward Cody Almond will be returning to Genève-Servette in the Swiss League, Genève-Servette announced today.

Almond signed with the Wild after leaving the team for the Swiss league following the 2011-12 season. The terms of his one-way contract allowed him to return to Genève-Servette if he wasn’t playing at the NHL level.

After camp Almond was sent to Iowa and chose to report, though he’s spent most of the season injured and wasn’t eligible to return to Geneva until he was cleared to play again.

Almond’s departure is a big loss for Iowa, who haven’t really had him this year, but Almond has room to grow as a player while being a veteran of a number of NHL seasons. He also provided a good amount of offense for Geneva last year scoring 18 goals and 16 assists through 44 games. That offense is something Iowa could use as it continues to linger at the bottom of the AHL standings.

Through five games with Iowa he has no points, six penalty minutes, and a minus-3 rating. He did not suit up with the NHL Wild at all this season.
