endeavor to execute projects with meticulous detailing following
the latest trends in the industry
The Ashleys was conceived in 2004, when
two talented individuals, Arbaysis and
Pooja - each associated with reputed
firms, came together and founded
a design house that would deliver
international quality and design value.
The couple received their Bachelor of
Architecture degrees from L. S. Raheja
School of Architecture, Mumbai, and later
established their own design practice in
Mumbai. “We stand for a refined sense
of detailing and elite customization that
defines the marked edge that design
can bring to a product, space, structure
or even detail,” says Ar. Arbaysis Ashley,
Principal Architect & Co-Founder, who is
an active member of the Rotary Bombay
Bayview as well. Speaking of bringing an
international design sense to each project
Ar. Pooja Ashley, Principal Architect &
Co-Founder, adds, “Our style embodies
a natural penchant for timeless chic,
punctuated with cutting-edge design.
Strong visualization and optimum
standards of space planning ensures
individuality. Global standards anoint
our work with a truly international look
and feel.”
The company designs high-end
residences, luxury bungalows, retail
spaces, corporate setups and are fast
making inroads into the hospitality
sector and building construction. Adept

the studio is driven by constant research
and evolutionary forays in relation

3. WEEKEND HOME
Location : Alibaug
Client Brief :
To create a weekend getaway on a sprawling 1
acre property in Alibaug, for a client who wished
to spend time in an earthy escape away from
the hustle of city life. The modest requirement
of the client was a 4 room weekend home that
was planned and spread over the courtyards in an
expanse of a 5,000 sq. ft. plus spatial layout.
Designer Speak :
The concept revolves around a series of courtyard
pockets so that each space opens into the
landscape areas and creates an innate experience
of outside-inside equation. For the design
vocabulary, we decided to blend contemporary
lines with an earthy vernacular touch of elements
that ran right from the hand finished plaster
walls, kotah flooring to the timber roof and the
furniture, which was brought in especially, from
Bali. The entrance is defined through a walled
courtyard that leads to a living room opening to
deep decks on two sides and courtyards on the
other two, connecting to a dining space. The
bedrooms overlook the courtyard and a den fixed
with a home theatre. The farthest bedroom opens
up to a deck on one side and a roofed courtyard
on the other. Different decks offer more than just
a connection; with an experience of lounging or
of an open-air meal. The structure is a play of
steep thrust of overlaying, sloping roofs creating
a juxtaposition of vertical walls and strong lines
of the roof, building interesting volumes of spaces
going up to 20 ft. The cantilevered staircase
breaks on the landscape under the steep sloping
roof building an interesting conversation with
the outside. An artificial mound rising to 14 ft.
changes the geographical strata of the absolute
flat site and connects the master bedroom, at the
upper level, to the rest of the landscape.
4. RESIDENCE, CHEMBUR
Location : Mumbai
Client Brief :
The client, an icon in the gaming industry, requested
a ‘warm house’ rather than a hotel-like ambience.
Originally two 3BHK flats, each spread on separate
levels were reorganized to recreate a home.
Designer Speak :
The home is deliberately planned in two zones -
the lower being open to the guests comprises the
living, dining, kitchen, guest room and a home
entertainment room. The upper zone is planned
for privacy consisting of a parent’s room, master
bedroom and a children’s room. The plan is designed
to have an immediate private escape to the upper
level without running through the entire home.
The carefully picked colors, contemporary style and
handpicked accessories bring in mixed expressions
of minimal, stylized and earthy feel to the project.
We used materials like wood that brought warmth,
rendering the home with grey, white and clean
lines, keeping the canvas look minimal. The
entertainment room or the ‘den’ is wrapped in a
neutral grey canvas to hold out its bold red wall
sporting a finely carved black Ferrari emblem. The
master bedroom is planned such that the den, the
studyaroundthisspaceseamlesslyconnectsthrough
glass walls giving the whole space a luxurious
look. Visually, the space is enjoyed as a whole and
privacy comes in simply through automated fabric
roman blinds. The master bathroom is planned
in zones bringing in a sense of spacious lifestyle.
The outer core contains the Jacuzzi set opposite a
mirrored wall which camouflages deep storage and
dramatically enhances the perception of the space.
The inner core has a separate block for the shower
and WC. The library separating the den and study
changes appeal from warm wood in the den to
contemporary red in the study area.
5. RESIDENCE, BANDRA
Location : Mumbai
Client Brief :
A space that would represent their company’s signature style, the
800 sq. ft. space on the 16th floor at Bandra, Mumbai, is a 2BHK
apartment that breaks open to the alluring vastness of the sea.
Designer Speak :
Our design lends a sense of calmness through minimal styling
with use of a neutral color palette, giving a feeling of vastness
and mysticism through crisp detailing. The existing floorplan was
completely remodelled to bring in a central access to the living
room spread across two bedrooms, with a kitchen down the
corridor. Considering the space constraint, the bathroom attached
to the guest room is planned such that it can be accessed from
the living room. The access door to the powder room is stylishly
camouflaged with the mirror wall of the dining area, to make the
small space look large. The master bed clad in leather is setup
against a grooved grey wall done meticulously in pop. To achieve
a high level of finesse to this wall, a simplistic acrylic formwork
at the top and bottom are employed while chiselling each groove
that sets apart the room from its white canvas. Shutters down
the corridor are finished in white polyurethane, blending with
the wall canvas providing hidden storage. The customized center
table is a piece of art, creating an impression of wooden strips,
loosely put together to offer a platform of utility. The master
bathroom is wrapped in a monolithic grey tile and the basin is
built-in, customised in polyurethane. The strength of the project
lies in the detailing at the micro level which defines the simplicity
at the macro level.
6. OFFICE, BANDRA
Location : Mumbai
Designer Speak :
Spreadovera1000sq.ft.thisfashioninstituteofficeisdesignedonminimalistic
lines, keeping it fresh and stylish. The project is executed in collaboration with
the principal design team of Marangoni. The space is wrapped with a neutral
palette of grey from the floors to the walls to make it look seamless and bring
in a strong sense of continuity throughout the office. Fine detailing like the
camouflaged store room for chairs and full height storage spaces blended with
the grey wall canvas add strength to the minimal accent of the design. Glass is
used to make the space look spacious. The design has been kept understated
and minimal but extenuated with a dash of colorful furniture.
