Running back Jalin Buie says his Auburn recruitment is 'open'

Jalin Buie's recruitment remains a curious one.

The three-star running back prospect at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., committed to Auburn as a sophomore in January 2014, but says he's had limited contact with the Tigers since.

He intended to visit the Plains for the A-Day spring scrimmage last month, but didn't make the trip. He was unaware of Auburn's upcoming Big Cat Weekend, one of the program's biggest recruiting events of the year.

Buie rarely discusses the future with his former teammate at TCA, linebacker Jeffery Holland, who was one of the top members of Auburn's 2015 signing class.

Despite all this lack of communication, Buie remains committed to the Tigers.

"I'm still committed, but I'm open," Buie told AL.com Wednesday. "I'm just looking for someone who wants me and a perfect situation. I really haven't had too much communication with the coaches, but I haven't backed out of my commitment because I want to give them a chance."

Buie has not visited any schools recently. He plans to take a college road trip with his coaches this summer, but is unsure which stops will be made. He said he will "probably" visit Auburn this fall for some games.

Meanwhile, South Florida, Tennessee and UCLA continue to emerge as schools of interest.

"I talk to Coach (Ron) Duggans at USF and Coach (Robert) Gillespie at Tennessee," he said. "I kind of already knew Gillespie when he recruited my bother, so it wouldn't be bad to play for him. Coach Duggans is trying to get me to stay close to home."

Buie may be taking a patient approach with his recruitment, but he's balanced it out by being aggressive in spring training. He's added about 10 pounds of muscle and is now up to 5-foot-8, 185 pounds after tearing his ACL as a junior.

"It's going good," Buie said when asked about his rehab. "I'm getting back ready and coming off the knee injury. I'm back running and cutting. I'm not cleared for contact until August, but I'm excited."

Buie is ranked as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 11 all-purpose back in the 247Sports Composite.
