The GoPro Hero 4 is Here!

After we put together our predictions based on leaks and rumours last week, GoPro today have finally announced their follow up to the 3+: the GoPro Hero 4.

There are two modes, the Silver (a supped up version of the Hero 3+ with a better sensor and permanent touchscreen LCD screen on the back) and the new flagship, the GoPro Hero 4 Black.

The latter looks to be a real game changer, just check out the footage above (featuring whales, people on an iceberg and a man in a duct tape suit) in full 4K, if you’re broadband can handle it that is. We at WL always side with focusing on technique and skill before gear, but that thing is sharp.

Here are the confirmed stats for the two cameras:

The GoPro Hero 4 Black – 4K resolution at 30fps!

The Verdict

By slimming their range down to two models GoPro have made it easier to choose between the new Hero 4s: whilst the Black is aimed squarely at professionals with its ultra HD and turbo fast frames per second, the Silver is definitely a consumer model  – not as high specs but better ease of use. This should make your decision easier when choosing which to buy on the 5th October, when the product starts shipping.

We’ve already had a play with these and boy, they are tiny, light and even simpler to use before.Full review to follow.

As ever though, having the best camera in the world means shit all unless you know how to use it – here’s our essential guide for snow based GoPro users.
