CHIEF OF PARTY, ENVIRONMENT, CONSERVATION AND TOURISM ACTIVITY

Tetra Tech ARD, a leading international development consulting firm based in Burlington, Vermont and Washington, D.C., is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for Chief of Party on an anticipated five-year USAID funded project in Tanzania.  Promoting Tanzania’s Environment, Conservation and Tourism (PROTECT) will address dynamics in Tanzania that threaten biodiversity conservation and inhibit private sector-led tourism growth. It will incorporate a series of integrated and overlapping interventions that support and strengthen capacity for biodiversity conservation. PROTECT will focus on policy, research and advocacy, institutional strengthening, nature-based economic strengthening and diversification and combat wildlife poaching and trafficking. This initiative is expected to improve landscape-level conservation, wildlife protection and tourism growth in Tanzania.



Responsibilities:

The Chief of Party will be responsible for leading all technical, financial and administrative aspects of the program and will coordinate closely with the Government of Tanzania (GOT) and USAID in developing, implementing, and revising the project’s overall field strategy. The COP will be the principal link between USAID, Tetra Tech ARD, GOT and other partners and provide overall strategic and technical guidance to project staff and subcontractors. The COP will provide comprehensive expert technical oversight and guidance in all aspects of the program, including monitoring and reporting to USAID. The COP is also expected to serve as a technical expert in one of the following roles: Resource Rights, Governance and Policy Reform Specialist, Environmental Enterprise Development Specialist, or Biodiversity Conservation Specialist. Qualifications:

* Advanced degree in relevant field.

* Minimum 10 years of senior level experience as Project Director or Chief of Party on donor-funded projects of similar magnitude and complexity;

* Minimum 10 years of international development experience in managing and implementing policy reform and institutional support projects related to conservation and tourism;

* Expertise in natural resource policy and governance frameworks, and local capacity building strongly preferred;

* Experience developing alliances with the private sector is strongly preferred;

* Previous experience with conservation issues, particularly wildlife conservation, strongly preferred;

* Previous East Africa regional experience required; experience in Tanzania strongly preferred;

* Proficiency in written and oral English is required. Kiswahili language skills are strongly preferred.
