Cassie Poindexter's goal with less than nine minutes to play lifted the Methodist women's soccer team to a 1-0 upset over the undefeated Meredith Avenging Angels on Tuesday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
Poindexter's header off a feed from
Jasmine Newman at the 81:59 mark broke a scoreless match and propelled the Monarchs (7-5-2; 6-1-2) to victory over the current top-ranked USA South foe.
The Monarch defense limited Meredith (11-4-1; 9-1-0) to just two shots the entire game, with two on frame. Methodist recorded 10 shots (three on goal), forcing Meredith's Jaisa Loch into making two saves in 90:00 of action. MU goalkeeper
Taylor Ross saw action in all 90 minutes, and made two saves.
Methodist returns to the road to take on LaGrange College on Saturday at 4 p.m. in LaGrange, Ga.
