Nazareth ready to celebrate German heritage with festival, Suds N Sounds
Nazareth will once more celebrate its Deutschland heritage Saturday with the 43rd-annual German Festival and Suds N Sounds.
Activities begin at 9 a.m. with tours of the town's playa lakes and at 9:30 a.m. with a walking tour of the town, approximately 60 miles south of Amarillo. Other morning activities include a tribute to the Nazareth Swiftettes' 20 state basketball championships (a public school national record), children's games and an arts and crafts show.
A German sausage lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nazareth Community Hall, First and Leo streets.
The Paige's Garden live music stage opens at 12:30 p.m., featuring C.R. Beedy, Steven Birkenfeld, Panhandle Boys and a gospel hour.
Other activities include a quilt exhibition at 1:30 p.m. at Home Mercantile, 101 Second St.; a car show and more.
Admission to the lunch is $12 for adults and $8 for children. Armbands for admission to the children's games are $10.
The Suds N Sounds music festival opens at 5 p.m. at the Nazareth Ballpark, Leo and St. Joseph streets.
Headliner Curtis Grimes will play following performances by Agave Posse, Lee Scheetz & Borderline, Blake Burrow and The Cody Sparks Band.
The concert will feature a 2,400 square-foot wooden dance floor. Glass containers are not allowed. Trailers and campers are allowed.
Concert admission is $30.
