Police: Students caught selling prescription drugs at school
Three students at Valley Southwoods School in West Des Moines have been arrested and charged in a prescription drug case.WATCH VIDEOWest Des Moines police said the students were charged with possession of prescription drugs and selling them last Thursday. They were referred to juvenile authorities.  Their names were not released.In all, police said, six student were involved in the case.Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Kock said the drugs were believe to be Adderall and anti-depressants."It's disturbing in lower levels of schools. These kids don't understand what they're getting involved with," said Kock.One student was charged with possession of a controlled substance, another with possession and intent to deliver and the third with having a prescription without a prescription.Adderall is commonly used to treat attention deficit disorder. The school superintendent is concerned young people don't realize how dangerous these drugs can be."That has become a go-to for some students and how detrimental that can be for students, if that is something that is not prescribed for you that can really be detrimental to your health," said Lisa Remy, superintendent at West Des Moines Schools.Lisa Remy hopes this case will help educate parents and grandparents that prescription pills in their homes not be accessible to young people."A lot of houses have them setting around on counters. People need to keep track of meds they have," said Remy.

West Des Moines police said the students were charged with possession of prescription drugs and selling them last Thursday. They were referred to juvenile authorities.  Their names were not released.
