Lots of kills, digs and blocks on tap as ’Cats unveil 2015 volleyball schedule

Chico State plays 10 road matches to open season before Sept. 15 home opener

The Chico State volleyball team's 2015 schedule has just been released, and while it promises yet another season of exciting play, it will also give the Wildcats' travel bags an early workout. No less than 13 of the 'Cats' first 14 matches will be played away from Acker Gym to open the campaign prior to the team's home opener on Sept. 15.

Cody Hein, entering his 13th year as Head Coach, has his Wildcats opening the 2015 season as part of the Route 92 Classic, with matches against Dominican and Holy Names Sept. 4 in Hayward, followed by contests versus Cal Baptist and Academy of Art Sept. 5 in Belmont. Chico State will be in Redding Sept. 7 for matches against William Jessup and host Simpson University, followed by a trip to Salem, Ore. for four contests Sept. 11-12 at the Western Oregon Tournament.
 
The Wildcats play their first home match of the year Tues., Sept. 15, kicking off the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference season against Cal State East Bay.
 
After three road conference matches, Chico State enjoys five of its next seven contests at home, welcoming defending CCAA champion Sonoma State and Humboldt State to Acker Gym Sept. 25-26, Cal State Stanislaus on Oct. 3 and Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay Oct. 9-10.
 
The Wildcats play four straight home matches versus Cal State San Marcos Oct. 30, Cal State San Bernardino Nov. 6, UC San Diego Nov. 7 and San Francisco State Nov. 10. Chico State concludes the regular season with road contests against Humboldt State Nov. 12 and Sonoma State Nov. 14.
 
The 'Cats will not only be battling for an NCAA Championship Tournament berth, but also for one of the eight seeds in the first-ever CCAA Volleyball Championship Tournament, taking place Nov. 19-21 in San Diego.
 
Chico State returns 11 letterwinners from last season's squad that finished 13-13 in 2014 and 11-11 in CCAA play. Hein also enters the year nearing a personal milestone, needing six wins for 200 career victories as Wildcats' head coach.
