NSF's Mike Roco to receive Global Leadership and Service Award

Mihail (Mike) Roco, the founding Chair of the National Science and Technology Council's subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering and Technology, will be honored for his extra-ordinary services in the area of Nanotechnology with significant impact in the USA and around the world. The inaugural Global Leadership and Service Award of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) will be presented to Dr. Roco in a special meeting at the European Union Parliament on February 23, 2015. The award cites Dr. Roco for "Vision and international leadership over the past decades in advancing nanotechnology and materials research that has made major impact to all citizens around the world.  In particular, today nanotechnology and nanomaterials are helping to solve major global problems facing the world of tomorrow."

Mike Roco has been a champion for nanoscale science, engineering, and technology research at NSF and in the multi-agency National Nanotechnology Initiative for over a decade, and a champion for the NISE Net as well.
