T&F Recap: Bulldogs Compete At Dutch Athletics Classic

PELLA, Iowa – The Truman Track & Field teams returned to action this weekend with the women taking the team title and the men finishing second at the Dutch Athletics Classic hosted by Central (Iowa) College.

The two teams combined for 216 points, the overwhelming first place team ahead of Grand View (Iowa) and the Vikings 174.5 team points. The women were the first of 11 teams with 122 points and the men were second trailing William Penn (Iowa) 99 to 94 points.

The Bulldog men had four individual event winners with Dominic Kacich winning the 400 meter dash (50.47), Nick Anderson taking the 55 meter dash (6.47), B.J. Smith claiming the 55 meter hurdles (7.77) and Bryce Pavey winning the mile run (4:26.92). Anderson was third in the 200 and Jarius Bryant finished third in the 400.

The 4x400 relay team consisting of Zach Thomas, Bryant, Kacich and Nick Terreri was second with a time of 3:28.49.

Laura Tarantino and Emma Trenhaile finished first and third in the 3000 meter run. Tarantino blazed a time of 10:28.02 with Trenhaile finishing at 10:52.71.

Sydney Cornett and Holly Neubauer accomplished the same finish in the High Jump. Cornett won with a final successful jump of 5-04.50 and Neubauer was third, last clearing 5-00.50.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Heather Hughes, Nora Kueny, Nicole Neville and Na'Kea Shepherd cruised to victory with a time of 4:09.14.

Neville and Kueny were 2-3 in the 400 meter dash and other silver medals went to Taylor Dinyer in the 55 meter hurdles and Laura Stark in the Pole Vault.

The Bulldogs will return to the track next weekend in Principia, Illinois.
