Neighbors throw bricks to save residents from burning apartment

HOUSTON – The Houston Arson Bureau was investigating a fire at an apartment Sunday night.

Houston firefighters found large flames and thick plumes of smoke coming from the unit on Hutcheson Street around 10:30 p.m.

Neighbors who were in the area took action to ensure the people in the home were able to escape. According to investigators, they threw bricks at the apartment to wake up the residents inside.

Both people in the apartment were burned in the intense heat. One of the residents also suffered smoke inhalation; both people were brought to the hospital for treatment.

The Houston Fire Department said it took roughly half an hour to get the flames under control.
