Working with Youth

We have 2 new opportunities at our Nashville South location that provide a chance to work with a great bunch of kids!  Email me if you are interested in any of the below!
Child Care for ESL Class
Tuesday 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Two or more volunteers needed for each class to lead or assist with childcare for boys and girls ages 3-6 and 7-12, while their parents attend the weekly ESL class.

We can provide supplies for crafts, games, stories, songs and snacks!



Character Building Program Volunteers
(Sunbeam/Girl Guard/Explorer/Ranger)

Character Building Programs meet on Friday 5:00pm - 7:00pm. We need as many as five volunteers to assist our teachers with the following age groups:
              1. boys/girls ages 4 years - 6 years
              2. boys ages 7 years - 11 years
              3. girls ages 7 years - 11 years
              4. boys ages 12 years - 16 years
              5. girls ages 12 years - 16 years

Teacher and their assistants facilitate learning with activities such as crafts, games, and a short devotional.
Supplies and instructions provided.


Food Pantry and Facility Help

Food Pantry
Monday 1:00pm - 5:00pm and Wednesday 11:00am - 3:00pm
We need 1 volunteer for each shift to assist the Food Pantry Manager with any or all of the following:
  • unloading the Second Harvest Food Bank Order Delivery
  • stocking shelves
  • filling food box orders
  • assisting with case intake
Volunteers need to be able to lift up to 50 lbs. to be a good fit for this opportunity!

Facility Help
Monday through Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm
Volunteers are needed to maintain the property beautification of the parking lot and flower beds, and activity bus. Volunteers would assist with weeding the parking lot and flower beds; and cleaning the activity bus inside and out.

All opportunities at Nashville South are at 525 Paragon Mills Road, Nashville, TN 37211 - just off Nolensville Rd near Harding Place.

Our Youth Program was blessed with several new funding streams in the last few months, so we are able to expand our services to the Youth of East Nashville. We are now in need of several part-time employees to make the program bigger and better than ever! 
Community Music Director
Plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the Community Center Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for all participants in our after school and summer programming. This is a part time position, Mon-Fri.
Job Requirements
Six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred,or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Red Shield Kids Club Program Assistant
We hiring two (2) Program Assistants.  This position assists in facilitating and monitoring assigned recreational and educational activities of The Salvation Army Magness Potter Community Center, after school programming; supervises and coaches sporting events; assists in maintaining the Community Center facilities, equipment, and grounds.This is a part time position, Mon-Fri

Job Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D., and six months experience coaching and supervising athletic events and experience maintaining grounds, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Receptionist
The Salvation Army is seeking a part time receptionist for it's Community Center location.  This position answers the telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; receives and receipts deliveries and donations; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing. This position is 25 hours a week, Mon-Fri.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or G.E.D. required, and two years of progressively responsible experience working in a major firm with telephone switchboard responsibilities, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities.
