What if your blog could save the nation, but posting to it might cost your life?

As catastrophes drive the US into martial law, all eyes are on America, waiting to see what emerges. KC Banning, network specialist, discovers President Hannan’s tyrannical plans and is branded a terrorist, sending her fleeing the Beltway to find her childhood soulmate and protector, Brock Daniels. Brock, a writer and man of faith, gives CPR to a dying nation through his blog, which is read by military members still loyal to the Constitution. But starting a grassroots insurgency while reconciling KC’s and Brock’s broken relationship proves difficult. When Hannan sends Special Forces to kill Brock and KC, starting a war in the Central Oregon desert, reconciliation, like staying alive, might be impossible.

Set in Washington DC and near Crooked River Ranch in the Central Oregon desert, Voice in the Wilderness, Book 1 of the Against All Enemies Series, is a political thriller, with romance, about two people who must decide if they’re willing to sacrifice their lives to prevent the USA from becoming the Dystopian States of America.

Voice in the Wilderness

I'm normally not a fan of political thrillers, but a good story and a good author can definitely change your mind about a genre and make you a fan. H.L. Wegley, changed my mind about this genre and at times I wondered if he was in my head listen to the conversations that I have had with my family. It was as if he took my conversations and made them into a novel. His character, Brock was a man after my own heart. The way he expressed himself in his blog was powerful. And those moments in the book where I got to read his blog posts were my most favorite scenes. And you know you are reading a good book when you fall in love will the secondary characters too. I'm so invested in this series that I can wait to see what happens next. I'm eager to see what happens with Brock, KC, Steve, Julia, Jeff and Allie.

This was an exciting, thrilling, edge of your seat, mind blowing and thought provoking story.

The first book in the Against All Enemies series is a winner. My own thinking resonates with the underlying premise of the book: too many people are looking to the U.S. government to rescue them and making very little effort to examine what is going on all around. The popular view among many is that the government will feed them, clothe them, keep them well, protect them, and make them happy. The scary part is most, if not all, nations in the past that have gone this route are no longer in existence today. We need a voice in the wilderness to point people in the right direction and get them to take responsibility. This story demonstrates what can happen when a leader stops serving the constituents and fails to fulfill his oath of office but rather seeks to bring about his own elevation to that of supreme ruler. KC Banning and Brock Daniels were childhood friends who had a special relationship, but grew apart after KC’s father became a senator and moved the family to Washington. When things start to rip apart for KC in Washington, she beats a hasty retreat to Oregon and her old friend. Can he help her? Will he? Is she being fair to run to him for help when the president declares her to be a terrorist? What can two people do to stop a president who is bent on destroying the nation and has the resources at his command to do it? Maybe it is already too late. The book is supercharged with suspense, action, danger, and intrigue. Romance and faith play an integral part in this wonderful story. I recommend this to every patriotic citizen. Though fictional in nature, this is one scenario of what is possible with the wrong people in control. I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

One of the best books I've read

but was scary in a different way due to the insurrection on January 6, 2021. It feels so much like our recent history that I fear for this nation more than before. Yes, it's fiction but also feels realistic. If read with an open mind, will make you think. Can't wait for the next book! Good clean read. There is violence but not so descriptive that I would hesitate reading it.

Deb’s Dozen: The USA Needs a Voice In the Wilderness of Today’s Dangerous Environment

I love finding a new author who I love immediately upon reading their book. H. L. Wegley is such an author. The first entry in his newest series, Against All Enemies, Voice in the Wilderness, caught my attention immediately and held me in thrall throughout the entire book. I kept putting the book down so I wouldn’t finish reading so quickly. Susan May Warren calls the book, “A terrifyingly real political thriller!”

KC Banning, a network specialist, has found President Hannan has an illegal entry into the nation’s security systems. She and her mentor, Sen. Richards, have uncovered Hannan’s nefarious plot to take over the US. As she goes to meet her mentor, she receives a text message to “UR being set up.Watch ur back, PL.” They discuss the situation and decide KC needs to get out of town and into hiding. As she lopes away from the Lincoln Memorial where they had met, she hears a single gunshot, realizes her mentor has been assassinated and that the situation is now Code Red.

Her girlhood friend, Brock Daniels, a writer and a Christian, has become the nation’s most-read blogger. His blog gives hope to a nation badly in need of CPR. He is operating out of a yurt located on the ranch where his and KC’s families used to spend the summer.

KC knows the only person she can trust is Brock—and heads west to their secret message site to find him. They’d buried a glass jar they’d promised to leave messages to each other in whenever they were in the area. KC is elated to find Brock is so close by. She’s now been labeled a “domestic terrorist” by the Hannan administration and is literally running for her life.

So starts a journey to both keep them safe and expose the tyrannical Hannan and his plans. Are they in their positions, with their unique talents, for “such a time as this?” You will want to buy Voice In the Wilderness, a political thriller of the first order and join them on their flight and mission.

KC and Brock are very believable characters. I love how Wegley gives us the backstory in pieces so we can understand the obvious chemistry between them. Both of them carry burdens from the past they will have to surmount before they can admit the attraction they feel for the other. I found their struggles very realistic and cared from the outset about their eventual fates. There are twists and turns at every juncture—you won’t begin to figure out the ending. Both my husband and I give the political thriller Voice In the Wilderness five stars! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

H.L Wegley served in the Air Force as both an Intelligence Analyst and a Weather Officer. In civilian life, he’s been a research scientist and then developed computing systems for Boeing for twenty years before retiring near Seattle. He is multi-published with a four-book inspirational series, two nonfiction books, and four more novels on the way. Contact H.L. at www.H.L.Wegley.com.

The author gave me a copy of Voice In the Wilderness in exchange for my unbiased review.

Title: Voice in the Wilderness (Against All Enemies #1)
Author: H. L. Wegley
Pages: 394
Year: 2015
Publisher: H. L. Wegley
My rating is 5+ stars.
Reminiscent of events both here in America and abroad, Voice in the Wilderness seeks to awaken our nation through the medium of fiction. Like John the Baptist who was a voice crying out in the wilderness or Queen Esther who was reminded by her uncle about being born for such a time as this, both are examples that challenge us to look beyond ourselves. The novel is so enthralling I simply had to finish the story before crawling between the sheets.
In the tale, two bright young people are thrust into a world of espionage, tyranny, treason and more shortly after the opening of the book. From that point forward there is also danger lurking though not always identified by the two young people, Daniel and KC. Daniel authored a blog that sought to encourage and educate his audience by sharing the truth of what he saw happening in America. KC was working in the White House as a network specialist until she found incriminating evidence that would put the President out of office and likely in prison.
Unsure who they can trust, they must proceed cautiously and with faith. Both have to face their past hurts and overcome fears that seek to steal their reliance on the Lord. I really found this work of fiction heart-thumping, suspense-filled and captivating. Some authors I have learned write stories to communicate a message, and this one book really reminds us that America needs people willing to stand up and do whatever God has called them and equipped them to do. I loved how the author had military and local emergency workers live up to the actual oath they had taken to defend our Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic!
Americans can pray, vote and have hope that God can restore us to the nation He has called us to be, a beacon that calls people to Him. As KC learned, we cannot do it on our own; we must learn to rely on Him every day. Each generation receives the mantle from the prior one. What are we going to do in preparation for those who come after us? We can teach them about God and His Word; we can teach history as many miraculous things have happened even during wars that prove God’s existence. We can teach the Constitution not because it is required, but so people can see how God moved men to write a document that gives America a solid foundation.
Read Voice in the Wilderness and be prepared to be in the book till the end. See if you aren’t moved to be more active in preserving and restoring America so she glorifies the One True God!

"Voice in the Wilderness "(Against All Enemies Book 1 )by H. L.Wegley is a novel about how a corrupted president is talking over the country. This story is fiction now but it very well might be truth in the near future if we don't wise up and elect the right people into office.

This is one book that this reader couldn't put down once I started reading it. I was hooked from the first line "UR being set up. Watch your back, PL. More later. B" From that first line the action is intense.

This is a political thriller with a romance in the middle. Yes, there is violence in this story but it is not overdone and not too graphic. And the romance is clean.

This story shows that there are still people who honor there vows! It also shows that childhood friends can remain friends even after many years of no contact.

I like the fact that the heroes uses a blog to "save the day" because it shows that everyone can do something to make things right.

The ending made this reader want to read the next book like right now but it isn't published yet,(but isn't that the woo of all readers?)

Can KC Banning and Brock Daniels undo the damage done and save the country and themselves?

Now here is some interesting facts about the book that I got from the author H.L. Wgley,
A I know a bit about meeting that someone special when you're still a kid. I've known my wife since we were 3 or 4. She's a lot like KC, freckles, reddish hair, slender Irish girl. Next year we celebrate our 50th. So, you can see where I got the backstory about Brock and KC. What a blast it was to write the childhood part!
B Here are a couple of things about my wife that she has in common with KC -- temper hovering near the boiling point, heart on sleeve, will die for what she believes. All I had to do was give KC some computer skills (my wife is computer-phobic), and I had my heroine.

I think it is really neat that a author can use real facts in a story!

Another fact in this story that is brought out is that God loves us and We are good enough, here is a quote from the book, that I posted on my Facebook wall "You got more than that. You're going to have a scar, Kace. Not gonna be perfect anymore." "I never was. See the freckles." She gave him a weak smile, then pulled his hand away from her head and held it."Brock, we all have scars from life. Some on our bodies, some deeper inside, in our hearts. Scars from things like someone telling us we're not good enough." ......" We've got to live our lives and find happiness in spite of them".

I read the 383 pages in one day, like I said it was turn the page action!

I received a copy of "Voice In the Wilderness " from the author for a honest review, which I have given. I was not required to give an favorable one just an honest one!

I am giving "Voice In The Wilderness" five stars.

She manages to elude everyone & flee the Beltway.

Fast forward Senator Daniel Richards is assassinated.
Abdul (aka the Butcher, assassin) was contacted for the hit on K.C.
He was to join up with Captain Blanchard & his soldiers.
Brock Daniels met K.C. then the 2 met up with: Jeff Jacobs (team leader former Olympic decathlete), his wife Allie (Hispanic, team leader) & Julia Weiss at the Crooked River Ranch (Bend, Oregon).

Will Abdul succeed in his mission?
Will President Abe Hannan be taken out of office & replaced (coup de at)?

KB + BD.

What about the Ebola outbreak?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Dystopian book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of very unique/colorful characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Dystopian movie, or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free Goodreads; Making Connections; Trinity Press International; Author; PDF book

H.L. Wegley is an accomplished author. Voice in the Wilderness, the first in what will undoubtedly be a series, is a character driven romantic thriller.
a. The romance; Mr. Wegley introduces two central characters who have been in love since they were children. Because of circumstances beyond their control, as teenagers they became separated to opposite sides of the continent. They haven’t seen each other for nearly a decade.
b. The thriller; The United States has become the play toy of a wealthy and powerful shadow government controlling the President of the United States. We are given to understand this is part of an unseen spiritual battle and the destruction of America is the intended outcome. The story moves at a break neck pace from the jungles of Ecuador, to Oregon’s high desert, to the halls of power in Washington D.C.
Our lovers are no longer the confident and carefree teenagers they were when they last met. Now they are young adults whose lives’ are in continuous danger as they attempt to expose the duplicitous President who will stop at nothing to destroy them.
Can love survive when there is confusion and chaos on every side? Can America survive when only a small band of young people will sacrifice everything to expose the truth?
Mr. Wegley weaves elements of romance, suspense, political intrigue, history, social awareness, high tech gadgetry and clearly stated Christian values, into a nearly seamless and entertaining story.

Voice in the Wilderness is a very exciting story. With a fast take off, there is heart-pounding action to grab the reader from the very beginning. I love this type of book, where the power of one collides with the seeming weakness of ordinary individuals and their ideals. In this case, we have a rogue USA president vs. a popular blogger and a network specialist.

The main characters are well-developed, and as readers, we come to know them very well. KC is a fearless and tenacious female lead and is my favorite character. Brock’s past hinders his present and his ability to fully grasp the gifts God has given him. Throughout the story, we see both of these two characters grow in many ways, which is very gratifying.

For me, the story bogged down somewhat in the middle of the book. Perhaps, more dialog or interaction between KC and Brock would have changed the pace. It seems they continued rehashing things over in their own minds, but were not moving forward in their relationship.

The last of the book was full of furious decisions and actions. I was reading and turning pages as quickly as possible to see what would happen next.

This first book in the Against All Enemies series is very good, and I’m looking forward to read the next book. I recommend Voice in the Wilderness to readers who enjoy romantic suspense.

Brock and KC met when she was eight and he was twelve. Over the next five summers they form a bond with each other, becoming best of friends. Brock proves his friendship and faithfulness initially by defending KC when bully boys tease her about her red hair and freckles. Then he throws a rock and kills a snake before it hurts her. She never will forget him. When KC is 14 and Brock is 17, they are ripped apart by her father as he is going into politics, moving them to DC and doesn't believe Brock is good enough for KC and tells him to stay away from her. Before leaving, KC kisses him and tells him she will see him again and stay in touch and he also agrees.
When KC is finally 21 and Brock is 25, KC runs to find Brock in desperation because she is working in the White House and happens upon information directly relating to the President that he is dirty. The President realizes that she has figured him out and wants her eliminated. KC goes to the only person she knows she can trust, Brock. Can the bond that Brock and KC formed when they were children still be between them? Can Brock and KC truly save the USA from a dirty President? This is an AWESOME read! Each page is filled with thrilling events, one after the other! I definitely recommend this book! I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Voice in the Wilderness (Against All Enemies) (Volume 1)
K C Banning is a network specialist at the White House who has found secrets the President is hiding. When she is found out, she is declared terrorist and a nationwide man hunt is searching for her. She has fled Washington DC and is on her way to Oregon to reconnect with a childhood friend. Together she and Brock Daniels hide and work together to let the nation know what the President is up to and to help get the United States back to what it should be. Through Brock's internet blog members of the military come together and help KC, Brock and his friends.

This is the first H. L. Wegley book I have read and I can't wait to read more. This is the best book I have read in a long time. The story is a quick moving story. It is a political thriller with just a touch of romance. The author allows us to see the violence and frustration of the people without having to read the violent details or swear words. I so appreaite this and this is very rare. I will recommend this book to all my friends, it is that good. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.I was given a free copy from the author for an honest review.

THIS BOOK TOTALLY "BLEW ME AWAY"! IT IS ONE OF THE MOST PROFOUNDLY INTERESTING BOOKS I HAVE READ IN A LONG TIME! IT MAY BE OF A DYSTOPIAN GENRE, BUT IT IS EERILY CLOSE TO WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE UNITED STATES RIGHT NOW! IT IS JUST TOO REAL TO TAKE LIGHTLY!

THIS HAS JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF ROMANCE IN IT TO REACH OUT TO THE HEARTS OF ROMANTICS, OTHER THAN THAT, IT IS A PAGE-TURNER THRILLER. YOU WILL NOT WANT TO PUT IT DOWN ONCE YOU START READING IT. THIS NOVEL IS PACKED WITH SUSPENSEFUL ACTION.

ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO BAD LANGUAGE OR SEX SCENES, IT IS PLENTY RUGGED FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THESE SCENARIOS. H.L. WEGLEY SHOWS TRUE LITERARY TALENT BY BRINGING ALL THE EMOTIONS, VIOLENCE, AND SEXUAL DESIRES WITHOUT ACTUAL DETAILS.

THE CHARACTERS ARE SO REAL, IT IS HARD TO REMEMBER THEY ARE FICTIONAL. LADIES, YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY DROOL OVER BROCK! GUYS, YOU WILL HAVE THE "HOTS" FOR KC. THE "GOOD GUYS" ARE VERY ENDEARING AND THE VILLAINS ARE REALLY DESPICABLE! IT IS HARD FOR ONE TO KEEP HIS/HER EMOTIONS FROM GETTING ENTWINED IN THIS ADVENTURE.

THIS IS THE FIRST OF A POSSIBLE TRILOGY OF AGAINST ALL ENEMIES.

WHOSE SIDE WILL YOU CHOOSE?

The author took present day events and exaggerated them into fearful possibilities where America nears becoming the dystopian U.S.A. As usual, Wegley delivers on excitement. For awhile there, when the two main characters face one crisis after another, I almost lost my breath, thinking there was no way out. The characters are well-developed, seeming to be larger than life, yet they both struggle with self esteem. Their natural talents & knowledge of the setting gets them out of trouble with realistic answers. I believe the author intends this to be a wake-up call to young people in the USA to use their talents and God's wisdom to fight tyranny and evil wherever it shows its ugly head. I love the use of a special childhood relationship that grows into a forever love. I also love a secondary character, a Special Ops military man. This book is worth a read if you like thrillers, politics, or both, or even if you like a little romance. There's something for everyone. (For full disclosure, the author sent me an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review)

This is the first book I have read by Harry Wegley but for sure it will not be the last. He is a new Author to me and I love this book. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Fraught with tension from the very first page it does not let up through the entire book, I am reading it and thinking that it is a page out of today's newspaper. It is terrifying and very real. The characters and the situations are so real that you feel like you are there with them. It is hard to put the book down because you need to know what happens next. I appreciate that the author does not use foul language even though you know his characters are speaking it. Also I appreciate the clean romance and the references to God and the characters living to please Him instead of themselves. All in all this is first rate writing by a man who knows what he is writing about. I heartily recommend this book. If you like suspense/romance/thrillers you will love this one. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Very thought provoking

This book sinks deep into what could be and what really is. If one looks at the lockdowns across our nation and sees the overreach of certain governors, the "pandemic" that wasn't widespread yet affected our entire country, one could imagine that this book could be our reality.
This is a clean, well written book that's worth reading.

My review today is on the Political Thriller, Voice in the Wilderness. This is the first book in the Against all Enemies Series. This is an awesome story that will keep you on the edge of your chair. You are going to love it. I warn you it is a hard book to put down so make sure you have the time to enjoy it.

It is well written, action packed, and full of adventure.

As she leaves him she hears a gun shot and knows that the Senator is dead. She takes off across country to try to find her childhood best friend. He'll know how to help her. He'll know where she will hide.

Voice in the Wilderness, by H. L. Wegley is book one of Against All Enemies. This is the first book I have read by this author. It won’t be the last! I enjoyed the fast-paced, non-stop action that went on throughout the entire book. It started off with a bang and didn’t stop.
Main character, KC, has discovered some top-secret information and she doesn’t know where to go with it. The one man she tries to get help from, eh, it doesn’t end well for him. Espionage, terror, potential war, martial law…can she, one person, stop these thing from coming? She finds herself on the run from the very people she used to work for. Will they really label her a terrorist to the United states? How can she stay safe and hidden, yet get the word out that there is a very serious problem looming over the United States?
Along with the action and suspense, there is also a bit of a romance in bloom. To find out if the relationship works, and if KC can stay hidden and alive, you will have to read Voice in the Wilderness. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

It's almost like reading the news

The timing of my reading this book was so similar to what appears to be happening in the world today, where lies are told and no one knows what to believe in the media. Yet even more timely was the reminder that God is still in control no matter how bleak the circumstances may seem. And even in the darkest of times He is working his plan not just on a global and national level but also on an individual level, drawing each of us to Himself - our only true Hope. I loved the scenery descriptions, the character development and the faith weaved throughout the story.

This is a powerful story—a powerful reveille for all Americans. Most of us are aware of our country’s past efforts to preserve our personal liberties. In this gritty novel, H. L Wegley shows us that today is no different. Falseness and subterfuge can still attack our freedom, our very right to exist.

The author takes us through a death-defying maze of perils that could become our own country’s future. When this evil is couched in subtleties and backed by political and military power, it becomes the ultimate power—the ultimate danger. The deep analytical nature of this book, coupled with its blazing action, shows us ever so clearly what a handful of brave people can accomplish.

Voice in the Wilderness is an exciting wakeup call as well as a fast, thrilling read. It was such a satisfying read I have already started on book 2 of the author’s Against All Enemies series.

Fantastic writing! Exciting & romantic!

This story felt real, the characters & the flow of the story kept me glued to the page. I'm hooked on H. L. Wegley's writing. It's well thought out & researched & believable.
The idea that both Brock & K.C. felt they were not good enough for each other was typical of the lies the enemy of our souls tells people. If we are not in the Word & living close to the Lord, we can easily fall for the lie. I love how the author includes spiritual truth in his books!!

I found the book ok, but it was slow the story line.
Also hate a hate love thing going on with the main character KC.
She would jump to fast to conclusion then feel bad and sorry for herself.
It was like she felt everyone was wrong but she was right.
Things that she really should of let go of and wait to be answered had to be answered right
there or she would over thing them instead of letting them work out at their own speed.
Other wise the story was fine and I liked it. for what it was.

America needs a Voice in the Wilderness

Although I don’t normally like to read things of a political nature especially with the way our nation has been going I thought this was very well done and enjoyed the characters and suspense. I would’ve thought this book was written recently with all that’s going on right now! Wish the Voice in the Wilderness and the special forces and other characters were real - we could sure use something like this to wake up America and restore what our nation was founded upon and their faith. I look forward to reading more of HL Wegley’s books!

Young love that started in the past becomes full blown can' t get enough for a young couple.

Enjoyed being back at Crooked Creek Ranch again. Loved Brock and Kace story. It was exciting from start to finish. Both thought they were failures. But as they came back together Brock became KC hero and love once again. KC returned to her first and only love. They saved America from bad people. Looking forward to Allie and Jeff story and also Steve and Julia. Will read more by this author.

Irreversibly clean

Thank you for the base vs of profanity and body details. I can't help wondering if the fiction is not too close to reality. However, God is still in control. My one criticism is that there was a bit much insecurity and romance in such perilous times plus OF was like so many heroines -unable to follow directions in life-threatening situations A very well written novel

Fascinating & Thought Provoking

Given the current climate & condition of the USA, this author paints a very possible scenario of how our Nation could change & has changed drastically by those that hold the office of President of the United States. This book is enthralling & holds you to the very end. I appreciate so much that this Christian author did not use any curse words or inappropriate word pictures. I am about to start book two of this series & can't wait.

Although this book was written several years ago, you can’t help but think the author was being prophetic with his storyline. It gives you an idea of what could happen if a tyrannical president takes advantage of a pandemic to control the country and how a group of patriotic, constitutional believers plan to take back their country. It is full of sit on the edge of your seat action and adventure with a touch of romance.

Enjoyable read. Fast paced and easily drew me in. It is amazing the many facets of government and military shown and seem to reflect our current situation.

Loved the insight. Reflects some of today's issues. For Christian it shows strong man with faith. Shows doubt and testing. Adventure and intrigue as well as picture into some cyber related themes. Take courage and God bless the USA.

ACTION - SUSPENSE - ROMANCE - MYSTERY ALL IN ONE!

The action and suspense had me holding my breath so much it's a wonder i didn't turn blue! The romance was tastefully done in multiple ways and the mystery was unique! I was surprised at the way this story was weaved using similar current events and expanding on them with a skilled pen of the novelist.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES!
