Didn't work against Durden, since he would throw a lot of hits in concession, more than my stamina could take, so I had to dodge too. May be still basics, but shows that I didn't had them really understood until then. If it's help my case, I was ten levels below him, when I fight him (do stats even change when you level up?).

If you actually block the blows it would start hitting your stamina, but just tapping the block as a swing comes will deflect the attack and leave them open. Doesn't matter what kind of strike they use, they always are left open.

Yeah I've put some good hours into Gwent myself, best mini game in a game ever.

CDPR should make a stand-alone Gwent game to play against other players online, take it as it is now from the game. I'd fucking love that.

I'm not the biggest fan around, but holy shit yes an online Gwent minigame would be a killer app. The more I play Gwent the more I like it.

Yeah, hand to hand is straight up just parry -> hit. As long as you don't get too greedy you can fist fight people way above your level without getting touched.

Seriously start parrying more. It becomes crazy easy once you get the timing right.

They really need to add an option to turn the hud off. Having to disable all those options is very tedious when you want to take a nice screenshot

Assassin's Creed Unity did this so right.

At any time you could hold R3 and the HUD would turn off almost entirely (everything except on-screen objective dot which is 100% useful and not in the way). Hold R3 to turn it back on.

And if you popped into the menu you could set HUD immediately and easily from 'All' to 'Limited' to 'Off'. So great. Masterpiece of a game with HUD off. Totally playable. They even added a mechanic where points of interest nearby are highlighted when you stand still on a rooftop. So even with the HUD off you can functionally find things in the open world. Just brilliant.

No there isnt. I eventually ended up selling ALL of my old books and notes to a single vendor (the same guy that buys trophies off you at full value), at least if I need any of them back I know where he is...

Ahhhh who is it? I've 6 trophys and don't want to sell them for cheap. D:

When I started the game it asked me if I wanted to simulate a witcher 2 save. I chose no since I don't have one. Does that mean the game just picks all the former decisions for me automatically?

need some help here, found an icon on the minimap in velen that isnt on the list of things when you open the map, spoiler-tagging just in case.

was headed to do the myster of byways murders when i ran into a griffin. I killed him and looted him, next to his dead body was an icon of what..looks like a sharingan from naruto, rofl, its like 3 swirls put together. When I go into witcher mode i see the icon for igni under the ground but i can't find a way to get to it, anyone run into this?

RE: Where the fuck is Triss in Novigrad? questions. Not going to spoiler, I'll just say the game presents it as a bit confusingly. She implies she'd like to speak to you which gives the impression she has quests available, but it's a bit misleading as nothing shows up in the quest log. Her related quests will actually be triggered via other means, visiting her wont trigger any additional quests I don't think. You can visit her to show her things/talk about stuff though. But yeah, the whole "Geralt I need to talk to you about something" isn't accurate, at least wasn't in my game. I'd visit her and she wouldn't open up any quest lines, not until I triggered other stuff and the quests opened up officially.
She said "I'd like it if you stopped by" in my conversation, not so much "come help me with stuff". Geralt responded with "that'd be nice", pretty much.

I dunno if that all depends on branching dialogue paths and such, though.

I saw the exact same thing and my conclusion was that
it's the portals you use in the "Wandering in the Dark" or whatever quest, the one with Keira. The swirls are below you, underground.
Minor early quest spoiler.

Hold on what? I thought you could only loot items from enemies/chests (ie one way), I did not realise there was a way to bring up the UI to add items into chests (ie 2 way)... how the hell do you do this?

EDIT - I think this rumour has gone through the chinese whisper mill :) I think originally the tip was "you can leave your items in any house", not specifically in a chest. I think it means you can drop your items on the floor in a house, and they wont dissappear... I do not trust this though! I feel safer selling mine to a single vendor TBH.

You can drop things and they will stay there. I use the abandoned village with the well in White Orchard to store my books. It's my own library with books still there from 47+ hours ago.

On the outskirts of novigrad in the upper right, there's a secluded building by the river(I think it's a graveyard or something) with a guy inside who buys everything for full value. I'm not sure if it's intentional though, lol.

Incredible tip - does he buy everything at full value, not just trophies?!

What is this game doing to me.... Logged 80 hours into the game so far and I have just reached Novigrad for the first time. I don't know what I'm doing with my time in game but I'm enjoying every second of it and the longer I can get the game to last the better!

Does anyone know if iorveth or saskia are in the game?

or roche?

I ran into letho on a completely unrelated side-quest though, that was really cool

god damn this game is addicting. it's a natural evolution from the first two games. nothing was lost in their transition to a more open world.

It's so cool reading about other things that happened to people in Novigrad. Especially this torture scene I've read about, didn't even come close to seeing anything like that so I must've made the right decision at some point.

Yup, even giving him books I've gotten around 60 for some of them. He has 500 gold so he can get sucked dry pretty fast though. I'd need to double check if he can buy crossbow bolts since I have a hell of a time getting rid of those, but normal weapons also work fine.

Yeah I just dropped all my crossbow bolts.

I forget, can we meditate a certain amount of time to reset NPC budgets? Preferably without conseqeuence.

Or did you? ;)

I have no idea. The only quest I've taken up in Novigrad so far involves tasting some dumplings :p

This OT and OT2 have been some of the best to ever grace GAF in my opinion: well done guys!

In Witching news: 20 hours deep and only just finishing my first story quests in Velen.... this is going to take a while!

Question for people who have beaten the main story:

**SPOILERS**

I'm at the point where I can go to the Isle of Mists to get Ciri, I got a prompt saying that some quests will no longer be available if i carry on.

Is this just the Brothers in Arms quests that they're talking about? Because I've done those and recruited everyone.

Any other quests that I could miss?

**SPOILERS OVER**

Thanks in advance.

Crazy. How quickly does his money regenerate? And does it do so at the same rate for all merchant NPCs?

Is growing a badass beard a consequence you want to avoid?

Regarding a serious answer to your question: I don't have one.

Interesting Thank you, time to crush Skelliges fight clubs.

That stuff has been a little wonky for me, so not totally sure. Sometimes it wouldn't let me even talk to him and I had to meditate in front of him for an hour and he would be restocked, other times he still had no gold. But that's happened to me with other NPCs anyway.

End-ish game spoilers.

Ciri says she went to a world where people had metal in their heads, fought at long range with guns and had flying cars. Wonder if this is an easter egg for cyberpunk 2077.

Apparently he regenerates 125 crowns every 5 days.... up to a maximum of 500. So if you have lots to sell, you are going to have to meditate a lot :)

What level do I need for the bear set ? I found the upgraded one and that is for level 27. Now I am rocking with the upgraded griffin set for level 15 ( I am level 18).

I think I've found something about the game I hate.

The water. When sailing around the Skellige isles during a thunderstorm and heavy wind the sea should not be calm. This is the calmest body of water I've ever seen ever. Reeeeally unnatural. I can understand maybe no waves close to the boat for gameplay and rendering reasons but not even on the horizon! It's bullshit!

Also, I saw a lone long boat out at sea but it was past the "I can't go there because reasons" limit and I've not seen another boat past that line. It's weird. I want to go there. Also I saw a ship (ship ship, not a dingy) and it had the boat icon but there was no little boat I could ride.

I think she just referred to
our world and maybe WW2.

I did the
Tower of Rats
quest last night. The story was well told and I was very interested in seeing the conclusion.
Unfortunately this ghost whore turned out to be a Pesta and fucked up the island? I saw a dialogue option where I could choose not to believe her. Did anyone get a different ending or does she always end up killing the guy in his house?

So where do I find the free DLC armor? I assume the DLC haircuts are added to every barber in the game?
The merchant you saved in the beginning is selling the armor. Be sure to bring some money, the DLC is free, the armor is most certainly not.

If you choose not to believe her you bring the guy back to the tower to kiss her and he still dies.

if you don't trust her because her story doesn't add up, you understand that she's what killed the fresh corpses on the island, and you have to bring her lover to her to lift the curse.

They meet and they kiss, killing Graham (he does it willingly) and reuniting them forever
