Grand Canyon University shortstop
Kelsey Barak has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-American Division I softball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Barak was one of four infielders to be named to the second team.
"This is a great cap on a tremendous career on the field and in the classroom," said head coach Ann Pierson. "Kelsey is very deserving of this honor and I am very proud of all that Kelsey accomplished in her four years at GCU."
It is the second consecutive year Barak has been named a Division I Academic All-American and third overall honor of her GCU career, as she was an Academic All-American at the Division II level in 2013.
Barak excelled in the classroom, as well as on the playing field, boasting a 3.87 GPA while graduating this spring with a degree in Exercise Science.
Barak had another stellar season in 2015, as the shortstop hit .368, smashing a team-best 15 doubles, slugging five home runs and driving in 43 runs. In conference games, she hit .409, lacing four doubles and connecting on a pair of home runs. Barak was equally impressive in the field, as the four-year starter made only six errors in 47 games. Barak will exit ranked second on GCU's all-time career list in home runs (26), doubles (54), RBI (175), runs (169) and walks (74).
