16-year-old boy falls through roof of vacant Flint school building

UPDATE: Boy who fell through Flint school roof alive but critical, police said

FLINT, MI - A 16-year-old boy was in critical condition after falling through the roof of the vacant Johnson Elementary School on Western Road on Sunday, police said.

Flint fire was called around 5 p.m. to respond for a child that fell through the roof of the vacant building, 5323 Western Road, which closed following the 2005-06 school year.

District Commander Steve Cobb said, "There were some neighborhood kids, local kids that were on the roof of the school."

He added the children were jumping on a metal grate above a broken skylight when it gave way and the boy fell around 25 feet and down onto the gymnasium floor.
