A high school student died and another person suffered serious injuries following a two-car accident on Interstate 95 south Monday night.

Rhode Island State Police said the crash took place in the Hopkinton area{}between exits 1 and 2 just after 10 p.m.

Felecia Bolduc would have been graduating from Westerly High School in 2016. But on Tuesday, her classmates learned she would not be returning to school.

By the time school started at 7:20 a.m., Principal Todd Grimes learned Bolduc had died.

"She's described by her teachers as being someone who is bright (and) bubbly," Grimes told NBC 10. "(She was) somebody who lights up a room when they come in, that people like to be around and was very positive and brought a very positive energy to the school. They definitely really enjoyed having her in class."

The news was too much for some students to finish the day. Others stayed and the school's crisis team, which is made up of the school psychologist and counselors, was made available.

School officials also visited Bolduc's home to see if they could do anything to help

"We want to be able to support our school community and also be respectful and support her family," said Grimes.

Bolduc's mother was too distraught to go on camera with NBC 10. However, her step-father told crews off camera that, "She put a smile on everyone's face," while her aunt said her family "Absolutely loved her and miss her dearly." They also noted that she enjoyed playing softball.

While Police said Bolduc died at the scene, her 28-year-old uncle, Obdulio Rosado,{}who was driving the car, was transported by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. {}As of Wednesday morning Rosado was still listed in critical condition.{}

The driver of the other vehicle escaped without injury.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.{}
