Allen and Delores Lastinger to receive Gus Craig Award

Allen and Delores Lastinger will be honored Sept. 17 by the Salvation Army of St. Johns County with its Gus Craig Award.

Allen retired from Barnett Bank after 27 years of service; he was the corporation's last president. Delores is a former high school business education teacher in both Gainesville and Jacksonville.

The Lastingers will be the 18th recipients of the award, which is named for longtime community volunteer and business leader A.H. "Gus" Craig, owner of Craig Funeral Home. Each year, the award is given to distinguished leaders who give freely of themselves to the community.

The Lastingers have been active in the community since moving from Jacksonville in 1998.

Allen is chairman of the board for the University of Florida Historic St. Augustine. He previously served on the St. Augustine Historical Society Board and the Whitney Lab Advisory Board.

Delores serves on the Flagler College Board of Trustees and was previously on the UF Foundation Board. In addition, her community service extends to Food 4 Kids, a project of Memorial Presbyterian Church, and the Colonial Dames - Ximenez-Fatio House.

The award will be presented during a ceremony at the Casa Monica Hotel.

Past recipients of the Gus Craig Award include Craig, the first recipient in 1998; Flagler College Chancellor William L. Proctor, Hamilton Upchurch, attorney and former state legislator, John D. Bailey Sr., a St. Augustine businessman and a former mayor, and civic leader and community volunteer Sue Hale.
