The first-ever Midwestern regional summit meeting on best practices on the use of criminal records in employment will be at the offices of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, 51st Fl., 77 West Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL and pre-registration is required for entry. The event will include panel experts covering the following topics:

• Compliance with the complex and overlapping requirements of FCRA, Title VII, negligent hiring, and “Ban the Box” policies

• Ensuring that reports of criminal history are accurate, up to date, and useful in determining business necessity

• Risk analysis

• Public/private partnerships that help employers connect with qualified workers with records

• Examples of employers who succeeded in hiring qualified applicants with records

The summit will bring together key stakeholders who are working to strengthen our labor market and economy while increasing public safety. The goal of the summit is to support the interests and needs of businesses in the Midwest by promoting best practices that will help employers evaluate candidates with criminal histories in a manner that meets their legal responsibilities and provide win-win strategies for business, workers, and the economy.

The Midwestern regional summit is an extension of previous employer-focused events that have been held in New York in October 2013, Washington D.C. in June 2014, and Atlanta in May 2015. The summit will be hosted by the Legal Action Center’s National H.I.R.E. Network, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, National Workrights Institute with the following partners: Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, The Insight Center for Community Economic Development, Safer Foundation, Growing Home, Inc., and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. It is funded by the National Reentry Resource Center, a project of the Council of State Governments Justice Center administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided to registered attendees.
