Wolf numbers in region up, despite hunt

The gray wolf population in the Western Great Lakes District — Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan — has increased, despite a wolf hunt season in the state the past two years.

A report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service shows that the wolf population in the three-state area grew from 3,678 in 2012-2013 to 3,719 in 2013-2014.
