A spokesman for a northern Indiana prison says water is being restored following a water main break.

Westville Correction Facility spokesman John Schrader say water had been restored to six or seven of the prison's 25 housing units by Monday afternoon.

By Tuesday, it was reported 75 percent of the water had been reconnected.

Schrader says the investigation of a sinkhole on Thursday led to the discovery that a 12-inch water main had broken. He says crews needed to drain all water lines and a 500,000-gallon above ground storage tank to make repairs. Once repairs were made, water pressure had to be restored.

We're told water is being supplied by tap which is good for sanitation use and washing clothes, bu t if inmates wish to drink tap water, they must first boil it.

Portable bathrooms are still in use and bottle water is continuing to be distributed, according to the spokesperson.
