Micah Hatchie, a three-year starter at left tackle for the Washington Huskies, has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent.
Hatchie said he had invitations to try out for the Seahawks, Browns and Chargers, but when the Steelers called Monday to offer the free-agent deal, he “jumped on it.”
Hatchie, at 6-feet-5, 306 pounds, started all 40 games for UW the past three seasons, earning honorable-mention all-Pac-12 honors in 2013 and 2014. One scout suggested Hatchie might be best suited as a center in the NFL.
Another former UW lineman, Mike Criste, has accepted an invitation from the Seahawks for a tryout at their rookie mini camp. Criste, 6-6 and 316 pounds, played tackle, guard and center for UW the past three seasons, and was an honorable-mention all-Pac-12 selection in 2013, when he started every game at center.
At the Seahawks’ mini camp, Criste will join former UW teammates Jesse Callier and Michael Hartvigson, who also accepted try-out invitations.
The three-day camp begins Friday.
Four other former Huskies signed as undrafted free agents on Sunday: Andrew Hudson with the Buffalo Bills; John Timu with the Chicago Bears; DiAndre Campbell with the San Francisco 49ers; and Kasen Williams with the Cincinnati Bengals.
