Hollywood's hottest leading men may have much to do with the sexiness attributed to hairy men, but independent surveys conducted in the United States pointed out that women prefer moderate hair on the men in their lives.

Findings from two separate polls show that women vary in responses to the question on whether or not they find hairy men sexy and appealing. The common denominator in both instances is that majority of female respondents are all for good grooming.

After asking 105 females if they find body hair on guys attractive, 74 percent replied they do, while 26 percent prefer hair-less men. The common thread was that most of the women who found rugged men with hair still want their guys to tame hair in certain body parts, Men's Fitness reported.

On the other hand, manufacturer of men's personal care products Remington, surveyed 435 men on their grooming habits as well as 440 women on men's grooming styles they find appealing and sexy. The female respondents cited specific body parts that they prefer hairless or trimmed. Around 40 percent of the women polled preferred men with a not-so-hairy chest; 43 percent will let their guys retain all the hair on their chest since it exudes a masculine appeal, but 17 percent do not like any hair at all on a man's chest, Remington reported.

In both surveys, the female respondents cited that they would want their men looking presentable, not too hairy in an unkempt way like a bear or a caveman. Men who take time to attend to their personal hygiene and grooming are desired by most women.

However, as the Remington's survey uncovered, around 20 percent of the 440 female respondents will not bring up the topic of addressing grooming lest their partners get offended. Surprisingly, over half of the men surveyed expressed that they will consider shaving off their hair if their partners so desired.
