The Enclave #4

Undying Hunger

Rate this book
All she can remember is hunger...for him.

A year ago, Alexandria Stevens strode through the doors of Wicked Ways and into the arms of a man—a monster, really—who stole everything from her. Her memory. Her life. Now she's a creature of darkness with only hazy images in her mind of that night and a confusing jumble of emotions. A fierce hate...and an even fiercer desire for Markus Santini.

Markus has walked through this world for more than a hundred years, knowing exactly who and what he was, until Alexandria undid it all. Undid him. When a former vampire colleague threatens one of the Enclave’s own, Markus is needed—but only as the dark, powerful creature he once was. And in order to become that, he must find redemption...in the arms of a woman who despises him with every breath she can no longer take.

"Heaven and hell had collided."

Undying Hunger is a phenomenal paranormal romance with one feisty heroine and a dynamic "alpha" vampire counterpart.

description

Alexandria is currently living in the safety of the Enclave (the halls of justice for vampires). She lives with her older sister and other vampires who live to protect the human race and take out the “dead". Alex is training and learning to be a better fighter. One night a run in from an enemy from her past, brings her pain. In the past, Alex and her sister had been held captive by Markus (another vampire) and Marguerite. Unfortunately, Alex doesn't remember what happened to her. Alex is desperate to know, and yet, her memories are blank. There is only one vampire that can answer her questions. Her maker and the object of her dreams, Markus.

"Memories of a dark-haired vampire with eyes the color of brewing storm clouds chased across her minds eye."-Alex

description

Markus, her kidnapper, is rotting away in a prison cell at the Enclave. After returning from holding Alex captive, he was immediately thrown in a cell. He has been wasting away. He feels guilty for what happened with Alex and that he was forced to erase her mind. Alex goes to see him in order to get some answers.

"She was sick of allowing life to happen to her. It was time she took the reigns and controller her own destiny."-Alex

The sight of his "vixen" stirs Markus. He is suddenly rejuvenated. He decides he wants to get back in the good graces of the Enclave in order to protect Alex. Alex is training and Markus wants to step in and be her teacher.

"I sired her. I take care of what's mine. What can I say; I'm a protective kind of guy. It's my nature."-Markus

However motivated Markus is, Alex isn't having any of it. She wants to be independent and move out of Markus' shadow. Markus has to convince Alex to trust him, beat the bad guys, and possibly overcome the burning in his chest. It is a burn that is building.

"Love? Since when had that rotting muscle in his chest been capable of anything else besides hate and revenge?"-Markus

description

Because I had not read the previous books, it was a bit difficult to put all of these pieces together. However, it was painfully clear that Markus was madly in love with Alex and Alex is in love with him. Alex feels an automatic attraction to Markus. Not only is Markus her maker but she senses his need to protect her and keep her close. They quickly open up to one another. Markus is left wondering, would she still want him if she knew what he had done?

The Enclave has a host of interesting characters with their own individual idiosyncrasies. I really enjoyed the world that Ms. Lee has created. Her writing style is fluid with even pacing. I felt the deep connection between Markus and Alex and was ecstatic when these two found their way. Markus has a persnickety personality and is definitely a man that needs a strong woman at his side. Alex was a great heroine with a lot of heart. The sexual chemistry between the two was explosive. It was quite refreshing to see the transformation that takes place between these two main characters. This was certainly not a case of "insta lust" or "insta love." Once the connection is complete, Markus and Alex become a force to be reckoned with.

description

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good vampire romance. I will certainly be following this author for future releases and I look forward to going back and reading the story of when Alex and Markus first met. If you are a fan of PRN, look no further!

"You are my reason. My next breath. You've been a beacon shining through the dark."-Markus

Undying Hunger is one of the better Paranormal Romances I've read in the last few years. It is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. In fact, I did read it as a stand alone, with having no prior knowledge of the series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book along has me curious about the rest, and I'll be going back to the beginning of them. What you have in Undying Hunger is both a hero and heroine torn asunder by their feelings. What is right, wrong and what just works. It has the perfect amount of angst for a good story.

"Markus was the personification of the term antihero." - Jessica Lee, Undying Hunger

Markus is our hero, our Antihero in this case. He is a strong, silent type... he really doesn't say much outwardly about how he feels. He plays his cards very close to his chest. His friends and the Enclave don't believe in him, they don't trust him, but yet, at one point he was family. As hated and feared as he his for his prior actions, he will stop at nothing to keep Alexandria safe. Going so far as to even destroy himself, walking away from everything, to know that she's okay.

"For you," he said, "I'd do it all again. If only for this moment." - Markus, Undying Hunger by Jessica Lee

Alex found her self in one messed up situation a year prior to the novel starting. At the time, she was held captive by Markus and some crazy vampire lady. They ended up turning Alex and she's downright pissed at Markus for taking her humanity. But he's done so much more than that... there are things she can't remember, or recall about her captivity. Large parts of her memory are missing. Alexandria isn't one to just lay down and take things without a fight though, so she goes toe to toe with the man everyone else in the Enclave considers a monster. Rightfully, she should consider him a monster too, but she can't bring herself to hate him.

When you start Undying Hunger, you can tell right off the bat that Alex -does not- like Markus. She feels a lot of things toward him, but full on hate isn't one of them. She keeps dreaming of him, constantly, repetitively and can't figure how why or how he's still in her thoughts. Markus on the other hand, has secluded himself from everyone. Refuses to feed and is basically waiting, breath-by-breath, for whichever one will be his last. Of course, Alexandria isn't going to stand for that, and after a few things unfold in the book, she's forced to confront him about her missing memories. This sparks a hunger in Markus to live. He thought staying away from her would fix everything, he thought avoiding her, not seeing her, touching her or smelling her would keep everything at bay. He was wrong. This is a pair that is inexplicably drawn to each other, even after everything in their past.

"You are my reason. My next breath. You've been a beacon shining through the dark." - Markus, Undying Hunger by Jessica Lee

If you like a good paranormal romance, and it won't bother you to get sucked into a new series, by all means, give this book a chance. It is good read even if you don't go back and read the other books. You don't get the feeling of walking into the middle of something and having to ask the person next to you for details. I can't help but give this book a very healthy four stars. :D

Now a creature of darkness, Alexandra Stevens only has a hazy memory of the night she walked into the arms of a monster and a confusing jumble of emotions including a fierce hate and even fiercer desire for Markus Santini in this thrilling paranormal romance.

Markus is needed to become the dark, powerful creature he once was but to do that he must find redemption and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the excitement and turmoil that flows from the pages as Alexandra and Markus struggle to come together. Their attraction heats up every page with sparks and passion as their emotional angst captures the hearts of readers because there are lots of issues to be overcome no matter how hot the desire burns. The characters are strong, compelling and demand attention from the very beginning while the fast paced and smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, excitement and passion.

An unforeseen threat has targeted one of the members of the Enclave and with danger closing in, the Enclave will have to trust Markus which adds lots of tension to the story and of course there is the continuous struggle to keep humanity safe that adds lots of exciting battles as well but the most of the excitement is caused by the volatile relationship between Alexandra and Markus. Well written scenes and details paint vivid images that capture the imagination and make it easy for the reader to get caught up in the story as the suspense and expectation draws them in and unexpected twists keep them guessing.

The Enclave is full of sexy vampires and a fascinating vampire cultures that takes the breath away and I fell in love with the series with the very first book and waited very impatiently for this one and I have to say that I was completely enthralled throughout Markus and Alexandra’s story and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

I do so enjoy checking back in with this series and seeing where they go to next and what happens. In this one the two you read more in depth about is Markus who is no longer under evil's thumb but back with the Enclave but thanks to a deal but still in a cell. All for love but not as if anyone else would know and certainly not Alexandria who thinks she hates him. Thanks to a nasty encounter with a enemy who wants a message delivered to Markus she demands to see him. Now the door has been opened and there is no closing it now. This author will take you on their story as threats come to light with occurrences from the past will come out fully to be faced head on. Heat and anger make for good beginnings where anger will eventually turn to something else. Desire cannot be squashed but will build till it has to be fed. Trust will have to be rebuilt and infiltration will be tried. She will begin to see the real Markus as she grows stronger in herself. The drama towards the end will yield satisfying results that the reader will be going oh yeah oh yeah. Seriously though it is just this series and the characters with the way the author has written them that you can't stay away, returning each time when you find out there is more. Can Markus ever be forgiven? He changed Alex into a vampire, controlled her and then wiped her memories. He had his reasons and they weren’t all altruistic. But circumstances have changed and he needs to forgive himself in order to keep her safe even if she can’t/won’t forgive him. They never counted on love. Jessica Lee has spun a wonderful tale of love and redemption among the members of the enclave. I loved this story from the fabulous cover to the very end. Though this is book four in the series it can be read standalone but I bet you will be backlist binging after.

I couldn’t wait to read this one! This is Book 4 of the Enclave Series and is Markus and Alex’s story. It’s from alternate POV’s. Though it can be read as a standalone I’d recommend reading the previous books just to understand some of the history and get to know the evil badass Markus a bit better. Either way you won’t be lost with the storyline. BUT...in my opinion, enemies to lover type stories get better the more I detest the MC. We’ve had 3 whole books of pent-up anger towards Markus! He's a backstabbing, cold hearted bastard who betrayed his friends and the Enclave that had accepted him. To say I had an intense dislike for Markus was an understatement. So I was freakin’ excited to finally read Markus and Alex’s story!

For those of you who haven't read the previous books...In summary, the series is about a group of vampire warriors and the women that complete them; so expect to see some insta-love action. The warriors are part of an Enclave dedicated to protecting humanity from vampires who’d cause them harm; in particular, vampires who get high off death (DEADS).

Markus is currently being held by the Enclave in a cell below the compound after being captured and is seriously feeling sorry for himself. While the Enclave in general despises Markus, the Master of the Enclave, Kenric, still sees something good in him that no one, Markus included, sees. So Kenric tries to help rehabilitate him after the time he spent with his former evil mistress who made him addicted to her blood and messed with his mind.

Then there’s Alex, the girl he kept captive, changed against her will and controlled her mind. She is enraged at having her humanity ripped from her and hates Markus with everything she is…or at least tries to ;-) That was fun to watch LOL

She’s struggling to come to terms with her new existence and fit into a world she wasn’t prepared to face. What’s worse is Alex finds herself battling with confusion over her attraction to Markus and can’t understand why she’s so drawn to someone who she should despise without question. Coupled with the fact she can’t remember what happened during her captivity she's going nuts and desperate for answers! So she asks to see Markus with the intent of demanding he give her memories back. When Markus sees her again the arrogant sneaky man I know and love starts to surface. Okay so maybe I did have a bit of a crush on him but that doesn't mean I liked him...much. hahaha The charm oozing off Markus in this book was amazing! He’s an arrogant ass, rude, obnoxious, SUPER possessive alpha, and is way too sexy for Alex’s own good! The chemistry between them is off the charts HOT! I had to fan myself more than once ;)

When someone from Markus’s past shows up threatening the safety of the Enclave and more importantly Alex, compromises have to be made and Markus has to learn to work with and rely on his fellow warriors once again. Through it all Markus learns to open up to Alex and expose himself in a way he never has before.

"She was everything his life was missing. The light at the far end of the dark tunnel he’d been wading through for longer than he could remember.”

He also wants to be there for her like he wasn’t there before and is willing to do anything to make her happy. Even if that means letting her go. She is his everything. So now, of course, I start to shift from my extreme dislike to wanting to wrap myself around him and give him a squeeze (ok maybe a bit over the top but meh...) hahaha

“I’ve got you, kitten. You say the word, whatever you need, wherever you need to go, and I’ll do my damnedest to make it happen.” ~Markus

I'm swooning here! Really the author did an excellent job introducing us to a softer Markus, giving us a peek into how he changes from selfish and angry to someone who now truly considers his choices and the impacts they have on others even if he doesn't like it. Lastly he recognized that sometimes sacrifices need to be made and he was willing to do that. Lets not forget Alex who learns that maybe sometimes both can be victims to their own environment just in different ways. It was nice watching her come to terms with her trauma and learn forgiveness.

Though what brought my rating down marginally was the emergence of the kickass Alex because for me it was a tiny bit unbelievable even though we know she'd been training for awhile etc. I can't quite put my finger on it but that's just how I felt.

The book ends on a great note. Whether the author decides to continue with another book or not this pulls the entire series together. Not to say I wouldn’t be disappointed with another book!!! Christian needs a HEA too! I think anyone who loves paranormal romances featuring vampires and soul mates will enjoy this book! Thanks to the author for another great book :-)

Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Le sigh. If this is the final book in The Enclave series that I so love, then it most certainly ended the series on the highest high possible. With Jessica Lee's Undying Hunger everything came full circle. We saw how Markus Santini was manipulated in Undying Destiny and how his transformation was completed in Undying Embrace. In Undying Desire, he appeared to simply be waiting the Enclave out, ready to either be killed by his former fellow warriors or to simply waste away and die. And here, in this fourth book, we see Markus truly become the vampire he was meant to be. He didn't revert back to the warrior following orders he once was or the sadistic commander who was under the thumb of an ancient vampire thirsting for power. Was he a killer? Yes, he was, both as a human and a vampire, but there was so much more to him than that and finally learning his story gives us a better understanding of his motivations. Of all the Enclave warriors, he was the one I was always most curious of and boy, was my curiosity satisfied!

Alex Stevens was the perfect love interest for Markus, someone who was irrevocably tied to him in both horrific and touching ways. The hate-love thing going on was something that I quite enjoyed because there was this push-pull of emotions but nothing that became irritating to read. This vampire took her human life from her, and while she was, indeed, under his control while at Marguerite's, she was her own person when they began interacting again after a year of separation, a conscious choice on Alex's part. She had strength of character but was still vulnerable, unsure of her place in the home she shared with the other vampires or her own feelings toward Markus. She was on a journey of self-discovery as a vampire and refused to be a mere survivor of the atrocities she experienced when she was abducted and then turned. She's very different from her older sister Gabrielle, although they were both initially seen as somewhat constantly needing protection or watching over by everyone else yet proving to be quite formidable.

I more than appreciated that the story went down a path that was unexpected yet still wholly entertaining and thrilling. None of the books are, by any means, short in length but you become so absorbed by everything that's happening that you don't notice the time that has passed. Like I mentioned in my earlier reviews for the series, I became addicted and my craving for The Enclave was something I've rarely experienced with other series. There are a select few that I find myself so invested that every single installment and each lead character make the mark and I'm happy to say that The Enclave is one of those series. This does really feel like the final book in the series and while I'm feeling bittersweet about saying goodbye to the vampires who have etched their way into my heart, I'm also feeling very contented about how things have ended. Of course, I'd never say no if there were still a book or two (or more) in the wings, but if this is truly goodbye, then what a perfect way to go. Undying Hunger gets five-plus stars and The Enclave series, now an all-time favorite, has my undying love and an overall rating of five-plus stars. ♥

I was so excited when I found out that Jessica was writing this installment . I always had a thing for bad boys and Markus Santini was the baddest of the boys of the Enclave. He finds himself in the cage in the basement of the Enclave , held prisoner because of his earlier actions. When he defected to the wrong side. As he aches for Alexandria the only one that haunts him even after he turned her and wiped her memories of what happened. Will he redeem himself in the Eyes of the one he loves and will he find his way back to what he was .

I absolutely love this series and was so excited to find out Markus was getting his own story . He was the one that I really wanted to learn more about . He was the darkest of all of them and the most tortured . I loved him from the beginning even when he decided or lets say got sucked into the wrong side . You could tell that he was such a tortured soul. He is tortured from what he did in his past and what he did to poor Alexandra. He did those things to protect her . There are times that you really want to climb him like a spider monkey , he oozes sex appeal and has that wicked little light that ever y girl wants . He truly is the hero but also the antihero. You see him struggle with becoming the hero but in the end you will love him.

Alexandra is one tough cookie. She was held turned and had all her memories wiped . but she keeps on kissing ass. She wants to find out what happened to her and she also wants to become a full fledged member of the Enclave. She is determined and feisty and will do almost anything to find out about her lost memories . Even if that means taking on the one that took from her in the first place . She will go about it kicking and screaming if she has to. I pity poor Markus as she goes about finding out what happened to her. These two characters are such strong independent characters but when they are together the sparks fly and they become stronger together .

The rest of the crew is there also, with all of the hot men and there loves . They will kick some ass and help get rid of the evil. Kenric is the hot alpha of the group . Arran , and Guerin all the brooding sexy men that will have you panting after them and then wanting to slap them up side the head , well just cause they are men .

This is a great story of love and redemption. You will love to dive into the story . It can be read as a stand alone but it is better to read the whole series and meet all the men. The author takes us on a great ride . You will giggle and then you will want to throw your kindle. Just cause well you will understand when you read.

I adore this author and if this is the end of the men of the Enclave , that is ok . The men are back together and Markus is redeemed in my eyes . But if she decides that the boys have one more story to tell . I will be there to read and enjoy . So if you like paranormal romance this is the book for you . Add it to your summer reading list. I know you won't be disappointed in the least.

I received an ARC copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Markus is our hero, our Antihero in this case. He is one strong, Alpha-silent type. He has gone thru a lot and he doesn’t say much. He feels like everyone believes he is guilty. He keeps everything close “to his chest”. At one point, he believed the Enclave was his family and friends but not anymore. As hated and feared as he for his prior actions, nothing will keep him from Alexandria-to know she is safe because she is his mate.
Alex found herself in one messed up situation a year prior to the book starting. She was being held captive by some crazy lady and a handsome man. They ended up turning Alex and she's downright pissed at the handsome man for taking her humanity. But there are parts of her memory, large parts of her memory that are missing that she cannot recall and that is hindering her with the feelings of the man…the man named Markus. She hates him yet her body craves him , needs him, wants him. Of course, Alex isn't going to stand for that- for her body craving a “monster”? Of course not! So she goes off to confront Markus, and after a few things unfold in the book, she's forced to brave him about her missing memories. This sparks a longing in Markus to go on. Markus thought just by being far away from Alex and the Enclave, he could shut down and move on auto, he could be ok but things have not be so. Things done to him were horrible and he tried to block them out in his mind. He missed his mate and the thoughts of her, the smell of her, the taste of her, the thought of her, --everything he has tried to keep at bay for so long—he has tried to stay away , in fact he has tried to avoid everything about her but it has been so hard. This is a pair that is inexplicably drawn to each other, even after everything in their past. Markus was so wrong, he couldn’t do it.
This is a fantastic romance with a twist on the modern Romero and Juliet spin . Grant it , R& J are older but still, it has some of those hints of the star crossed lovers in the story spin. The MC are wonderful, the paranormal elements are great and the ending is killer. I love this story and I highly recommend this story.

I hopped into the series in the middle of it and knowing what I do now, I have GOT to start it from the beginning if for noting else this series ROCKS! Undying Hunger was so hard to put down.

Alexandria and Markus are quite the exciting couple. They have one of those how-could-you, what-happens-next, forgive-him, swoon, kick-his-butt, yes! romances that I oh so love to read. She hates him, she has so many reasons to and yet, wants him. Markus, oh boy. He's such a vampire in quite the conundrum. He was good, then did bad, and is now trying to come out of the dark. I'm not sure why he turned Alexandria in the first place as I missed reading the first few books in the series but I totally get why he wants and desires her now. As their story unfold, I found myself cheering them on and booing everyone against them. Yes this includes all the good guys. I'm a sucker for rogue redemption and the journeys they take to their happy ending. I also like a story that is filled with action and intrigue which there was no shortage from here.

The majority of the secondary characters we have already met in previous titles. I always like series that carry over their characters. They feel like old familiars friends and getting to experience them a second, third, fourth time around always gets me excited. There is a new player this time, Christian. I had mixed feeling about him in the beginning and really didn't think much of him. By the end, I was singing a new tune. Now I hoping he gets his own book. Please, please, please let there be another book with his name all over it. PLEASE!

If you're looking for a great vampire romance with lots of action to since your teeth into, then let it be The Enclave series by Jessica Lee. Those one is worth reading again and again.

I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.

LOVED! I started reading this series in October 2013 and have been waiting for Markus' story. I'm the type that always thinks you should read the books in order, but trust me that although you could read this as a standalone, if you start at the beginning you see why this was such an awesome book. In book 1 you see Markus go down his dark path. It took till book 4 to see his redemption, but it was worth wait!

Markus was once a proud member of the Enclave, a group of vampires led by their Master Kenric who protect the humans from vampires addicted to killing. Now he's the prisoner of his former brothers. He just wants the Enclave to let him die, but Kenric refuses to let him go and force feeds him to keep him alive. He's got nothing but memories of betraying his team, the only family he really ever had. The one good thing he's done, was for Alexandria, and she can never know.

Alexandria's life changed a year ago after walking into a bar. She's still having trouble adjusting to life as a vampire. It doesn't help that she's living with a bunch of vampires who are all paired up. She's sick of being the third wheel. Even worse, she's constantly thinking of Markus. The one she knows of as a traitor, and the reason she was changed. She can't reconcile hating him, and wanting him.

I loved their journey and finished it in one sitting! There was a long break in between books 2 and 3 so I'm so happy Jessica Lee continued the series!

This was a great story but in the process of telling it we had too much macho BS and too much angst IMHO.

You have to love a story of redemption which is what this is at the heart of the story along with the romance between Alexandria and Markus. The story was done fairly well but while this book clocks in at about 266 pages if you limited the sex scenes to two pages you could have subtracted about 20+ pages, it was overdone.

If this had been a 200ish page book I would probably have given it 4 stars but since it wasted so much time and I had to scan large portions that added nothing to the story 3 Stars is all I can give it.

Bottom line: If you have read the other books in this series you obviously want to read this one and it does put things to rest rather well but as a stand alone story it suffers from "filler sex" meaning sex that does nothing more than add pages to the book and nothing to the story. Do not mistake this being a desire for less sex in books, I just want it to mean something and flow with the story instead of feeling like a commercial "and now it is time for a sex scene". So I would obviously recommend this to anyone who has read other books in this series, to those of us who have not it is maybe a touch above average in most respects but could have been a better book with more time spent on it by the author and less meaningless sex scenes that have no purpose than added pages. 3 Stars

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!
***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review

The cover is steamy and sexy and perfect for the book :)

This is the 4th book in the series, but the first book I’ve read in this series and by Jessica Lee. It is for adults only due to the steamy content. I will definitely be going back to read the rest of the series because I’m intrigued by all of the characters, and I can tell I missed things in the back stories of them all by starting with book 4.

This book is packed with action, drama, strife, and entertainment. It is a great read :) This story focuses on Markus and Alex from their past to their present. Markus is a typical alpha with his control issues and things he has done in the past, and Alex is fierce but her past is filled with not so nice things happening to her. I love the good guys vs the bad where action is always being built and plays being made. I’m definitely an action girl :)

Jessica does a fabulous job creating a complex storyline and characters that grab your attention and keep you entertained. I can’t wait to check out more of her work especially in this series.

I recommend this story to those who already love the series and to all my vamp lovers out there :)

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley from Entangled Publishing for an honest review. This is a little hard for me to review for the simple reason I have not read the previous 3 books leading up to this one. I always expect a series with different characters making up each book to have overlap of characters, story lines or world building. In this case, I think I missed out on a lot of Alex and Markus's background by not reading the others first. In particular, there was some knowledge provided about Eve's past (book 3), but I think I really need to read Elle's story (book 2) to better understand Markus, Marguerite and what happened to Alex (Elle's sister) a year ago.

From what I did read and pieced together, I enjoyed the book. The writing was excellent. The beginning felt slow to me as it built, but I think that was solely because I was trying to pull together established story lines and backgrounds. Markus is the perfect tortured alpha male. Slowly the book builds into a climax that was full of action. I enjoyed the story enough to pursue the previous books and I've already added them to my Amazon wish list.

I enjoyed this paranormal romance, even though I found it frustrating at times. I think it was the mood I was in while reading. I just didn't have the patience for all the hate directed towards Markus when their leader is obviously seeing/thinking there's something redeeming about him. And then to dismiss Markus' concerns regarding the new lame puppy they brought in? Argh.

But the chemistry between Alexandria and Markus is palpable and there's the strain of emotions where they both care more than they think they should. I'm sad that I didn't start this series from the beginning and instead jumped in with #4 with an arc from the publisher. While you absolutely CAN read book 4 with no problems, once you're introduced to all the other characters, etc., you really want to know what happened in detail first!

So feel free to jump in with this book, but as for me...I'm going back to book #1 and will start this series from the beginning! Good story telling, good romance, and good action!

This series is one of my favorite Vampire series ever! Undying Hunger is Markus and Alex's book.
Markus has alot to makeup for with all of his misdeeds he did while being under Marguerite's control.
Alex is hell bent on getting her memories back of when she was held captive by Marguerite and Markus. He took it upon himself to change her and then had the audacity to take her memories. What is a girl to do?
As much as she would like to hate the former traitor to The Enclave, there is no doubt of their chemistry together.
When Enrique shows back up in the picture and threatens Alex, Markus knows he has to protect what is his.
New alliances will be formed, old memories laid to rest, and new bonds held forever in time.
Absolutely adored this book! Jessica Lee has spun the best Vampire Series I have read to date! It is a great story and has smoking hot sex scenes that will leave you weak in the knees!

Bad boy vampire Marcus has a full plate in this Enclave novel.

He is dealing with being held by the Enclave then fighting a fierce attraction to Alexandria (the vampire he made), a reappearance and threat by Enrique and more.
I thoroughly enjoy the fact the males of the Enclave are strong and protective yet are ruled by their mates. The women have their own strengths are are sassy as hell.

The story moves at a smooth pace with intriguing characters and a engaging storyline.. A wonderful series with alpha men sure to quench your thirst

This book was enthralling. It was an amazing love story with a touch of Darkness all wrapped in paranormal. I loved every minute of it and found it to be one of the best vampire romances I've come across, I would definitely rate this up there with the Carpathian novels of Christine Feehan's world. If you love vampire novels I recommend you take the time to read this one.

Undying Hunger is the fourth book in the Enclave series by author Jessica Lee. Ms. Lee’s writing has me on page one. The characters are engaging and likable. The pace of the story itself is nice and not too fast or slow. There is a great arc to this story too. I loved it and want more. I will admit this is the first time I have read this series, but I was not lost at all. Just one of those reads I never wanted it to end.
Alexandria has been through a lot. She is stronger for it though. She is both tough and vulnerable. She is the kind of woman you would want as your best friend. Loyal, fierce, and just very likable.
Markus is tough strong, and a little vulnerable himself. I liked seeing that in a hero. I also loved how he must come full circle in his views to see love in the end. He is a multi-dimensional character with a lot of different facets to him.
Overall a really good fast paced read. There is a ton of great story, lots of love, and memorable characters. I cannot wait for more from this series in the future.

Great read

This book was so full of emotions. Anger, sadness, loss, hope and danger. A new warrior was found. After so much regret a new couple found themselves. I hope there will be another book in series. I really like this series.

Undying Hunger by Jessica Lee
Book #4: Enclave Series
Source: Purchase
My Rating: 4½/5 stars
My Review:

BAH!! It took me three books to get here but I finally made it to Markus and Alex’s story and damn it all if it wasn’t totally worth the wait!

Markus Santini has been hanging around since the first book and from read-to-read he has gone through cycles of evil, something similar to goodness, evil genius, depravity, and warped kindness. He’s been a member of the Enclave, a partner to the sick and twisted Marguerite, and a prisoner of the Enclave. He is also absolutely certain, to his core that Alexandra, the woman he kidnapped and turned against her will, is his mate. If he has any hope of claiming Alex for his own, Markus has a lot of work to do and that work begins with getting out of a silver lined cage.

Over and over again, Alex’s trust has been tested, pushed to the limit, and violated but through it all, she has survived. Not only has Alex survived she has become stronger and though she wouldn’t have chosen a vampire’s life, it’s what she has and she is bound and determined to make the best of it. Alex is beyond tired of being a victim and if she is going to claim her life and become even stronger she is going to have to start with getting some answers. Most in the Enclave think Alex is keeping her distance from Markus because of what he did to her but in truth, she keeps her distance so she can keep her intense attraction to him under control.

There is no denying the sexual chemistry between Alex and Markus but that is about the extent of their relationship. Markus has no desire for Alex to know all of his dirty little secrets and Alex has no desire to be used and/or victimized yet again. However, when Markus begins to take real steps toward healing and making amends with his fellow Enclave members, Alex takes notice. Trusting Markus is a difficult task but every once in a while, Alex sees a glimmer of goodness in Markus and she slowly begins to let her guard down. Markus knows there is a threat to Alex and the Enclave still out in the world in the form of Enrique and it is his intention to protect Alex (and the Enclave if he’s being honest with himself!) from that threat no matter what it may cost him. Enrique is a determined little rat with no scruple or morals; he is desperate to once again have power and getting to Alex and the Enclave is the answer to all his problems.

As the days and weeks go by, Alex and Markus come ever closer to one another but each holds just a bit back from the other. It isn’t until their lives are well and truly threatened that each realizes how tenuous even an immortals life can be. Enrique is one scary dude and when he is able to put all his plans into motion, the entire Enclave is threatened and many among the group some out with more than a few scrapes and bruises. The action and the drama of these intense moments reveals not only Markus’s true character but his affection for Alex. For Alex, these moments allow her to truly become a part of the Enclave and fight for those she now calls family. For what may be the first time in her life, Alex belongs somewhere and she intends to keep Markus with her.

The Bottom Line: Markus is the character you really love to hate and the author has done such a fine job over the course of the series of keeping him that gray area. For me, Markus is very much HBO’s Dexter – I know I’m not supposed to love the serial killer, yet I do. In what I am assuming is the final book of the series, Markus finally gets a chance to right all the wrongs he has done in his life. He wants to be good and if it weren’t for Alex and a very patient Kenric, the chance to be good, his moment of redemption may have never come. I love his struggle in this read and how hard the author really made Markus’s road. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it, right? My only complaint about this read is how very much everyone babies Alex. She has endured and survived more than most and is a strong woman yet it takes huge moments and actions for anyone (other than Markus) to recognize Alex’s strength and ability to care for herself. Becoming Markus’s mate is huge for Alex and like him, she needed to struggle to get to her HEA. The push and pull between the two is pretty fantastic and I found myself really becoming quite attached to these two characters. Though I would certainly like to see the Enclave series continue, the ending to this read seems pretty fixed and final. If the series is done, I can honestly say I am pleased with the outcome and don’t feel like it could have ended any better than it did.

I totally loved this book and the world that Jessica Lee has created. The characters were dynamic and multi-dimensional, the plot and subplots were well developed, and the writing was spot on to highlight the edge, drama, emotion, and passion in the book.

Markus and Alex’s history was very dark but filled with hope, and I loved watching their story unfold throughout the events in the book. It’s clear these two want each other, but they are both struggling to come to terms with their past, as well as figure out how to move forward with their lives. Even as Markus begins to confide and trust in Alex, he knows that what he has done to her is unforgiveable. Alex knows Markus has done nothing but hurt her, but the pull she feels towards him is very strong.
“You’re a man!” The words tumbled from her lips. But not just any man. He was Markus. The male her head said she should hate. Yet her body responded to him as if he were Vin Diesel mixed with the swagger of Alexander Skarsgard and sprinkled with the deliciousness of Enrique Iglesias. And damn if she subconsciously wanted a bite of all that yummy goodness.

But that was the problem. She didn’t dare sample any of what he had to offer, unless she wanted to dance with the devil himself.

Watching the interactions and all the emotions as Markus finds himself back with the Enclave, the group he turned on, was powerful and integral to the story, and so well written. The other members of the Enclave were all part of Markus and Alex’s story, and I loved watching them defend, fight, and support each other. Note: I have not read the first three books in the series but had no problem reading this as a standalone. Reading the earlier books may give some additional background to the other characters, but enough backstory was provided to fully enjoy this book without reading the others.

I highly recommend this book to all lovers of paranormal romance and urban fantasy, as well as anyone who loves a darker romance. This book had a great, unique twist on the vampire lore that made it refreshing and kept me turning the pages right until the end!

I received a copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

Got an ARC from Net Galley.

Thanks Entangled.

Since this is summer I think this would be the ideal time to break out the romance novels. Of course romance alone isn't always enough so adding in vampires just makes thing even better and there's some eye candy on the cover for readers to enjoy. I didn't realize this was part of a series although I should have because I'm such a series magnet.

This is the fourth book in the Enclave series. You could just start with this book and enjoy it but I really think it would have been a better reading experience for me if I had read the first three books before this one to avoid the feeling of walking into the theater when the movie's halfway through. I did like it and it wasn't too hard to try to figure out things but there were things missing that I would like to know.

I do think this book and series would appeal to people who love the Black DaggerBrotherhood books since it has that same kind of vibe to it. The Enclave is a bunch of vampires that kill DEADs who seem to be vampires that drain people to the point of death turning them into junkies I guess. I didn't really like Markus. I'm not sure if my feelings about him would change if I knew more about him. I'm just left scratching my head and wondering what Alexandria sees in him since I just don't. The mating thing is interesting but a bit strange. I did like this book although despite the sex scenes. I'm just not really a fan of them in general. I can take them in small doses and didn't really care for them in this book.

I'm pretty sure if I read the other books before this one, I would be able to share the enthusiasm of this author making this book with my other friends who have, because these characters are spectacular, and their chemistry is intense, no matter how much they can despise each other for their past encounters.

In Undying Hunger we have 2 POV's Alexandria and Markus.

Their chemistry started when Alex wanted to be the bad girl for a night, bumped into Markus, and got turned into a vampire, but Alex is alittle over dramatic. In this book when your turned into a vampire, you lose your memories of your previous life, and can only think about the person that turned you, and is battling the darkness that is set within her.

Now she's a creature of darkness who is lost in the world, and has mixed feelings for Markus, now she has to figure out why...

Markus has walked through this world for more than a hundred years, knowing exactly who and what he was, until Alexandria undid it all. Undid him. When a former vampire colleague threatens one of the Enclave’s own, Markus is needed as his old powerful vampire self. And in order to do that, he must find redemption by convincing Alex that he is a good person and that they possibly love each other... That is a tough mission, minus well wrestle some alligators or ride a bull, it's easier...

Anyway, their chemistry was intense, and goes through a series of obstacles that you have to read the book in order to believe me and experience this feeling I have after reading it yourself...

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
It's been a year since Alexandria was held captive and forced into the life of the undead. Yet when she thinks of Markus, the vampire that held her captive, it's not just anger she's feeling. Imprisoned at the Enclave, Markus is just waiting to die. When Alex comes demanding answers, his feelings for Alex make him want to live again. In his long, deadly life, she's the only one he's ever felt anything for. Now, she's the only one he wants to protect and live for.
First off, BEST FIRST LINE IN A BOOK EVER!!!!
This is the first story I've read from this author. I was totally engrossed in this story and once I started it, I just couldn't stop until I finished it. Even though I haven't read the first three books, obviously Markus was the enemy in at least two of them. I love it when an author can take a character that was so obviously bad and change him in such a way that you want him to earn his HEA. I'm not sure I would've felt the same if I read them in order, but I absolutely loved him and his devotion to Alexandria. I also really enjoyed getting to know Alexandria as she is learning to deal with her new life and the pain of everything she's been through. Not to mention, her unwanted attraction and feelings towards Markus.
I really loved this book and as soon as I'm done with this review, I will be going to buy the others in the series!!

I received a copy of Jessica Lee’s Undying Hunger (The Enclave #4) through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. The verdict is in… Undying Hunger is a winner. That is without me having read the first 3 books yet. I feel one way to tell good author is when you can pick up a book in the middle of a series and still be able to enjoy it with an overall understanding of what is happening in the series without the author rehashing all the details through each book. Lee has done this, not only did she write an excellent book featuring Alexandria Stevens and Markus Santini.
As the story progresses we are shown that Alex is drawn to Markus, they have a past together that Alexandria cannot remember and Markus isn’t sharing. Alex cannot understand why she is so drawn to Markus considering she is supposed to hate him for kidnapping and turning her. Then we have Markus who feels he does not deserve Alex and is so far gone over her that he will risk anything and do anything he to protect her. Even at the cost of his own life.
The only thing that I can think of that I didn’t like about the book was all the “E” names. Coming in on the 4th book it took me a bit to stop confusing Elle, Emily and Eve. This book is well written and Lee drops little bites of info from previous books that enable the reader to thoroughly enjoy Undying Hunger and still peak your interest to want to go read the first three books in the series.

Alex has lost her memories of the time with Markus. She knows he is the one that turned her into a vampire but, she doesn't know he controlled her in order to protect her. And that he isn't a traitor to
The Enclave - the vampire protectors of humans. She doesn't know this because he took her memories away and tried to let her go. The only problem is he knows she is his mate and that if she ever finds out what he did she will hate him more than she already does. Of course when she is hurt he is the one that takes her away from the danger to a place no one knows. Here she begins to see a different side of him. A side she wants to know. Marcus realizes he can't have her but he will do everything he can to protect her even if he has to die doing it. So he takes her back to her sister and before he leaves he gives her back her memories. This is where the struggle between the two really begins. Can Alex forgive him and if she does will he be able to forgive himself? Oh and while they are trying to figure this out they just have to save her sister from a crazy that is trying to eliminate the enclave.

Fast paced with some racy scenes.

Marie's Tempting Reads (Netgalley) eARC Review:

* I got a free e-copy of this book through Netgalley. This in no way effects my rating or review*

Undying Hunger by Jessica Lee is the perfect paranormal romance! Its passionate, sexy, and completely delicious. The story is an engrossing one that takes a reader on a ride through the dark and breathtaking world of Enclave.

The characters are engaging and will have readers satisfied, while the story is well paced and is written to perfection. I was drawn in with Alexandria and Markus and I couldn't think of two characters that were as good as these two. I loved Markus's dark side as well as his supremely protective and caring side. Alexandria was a stunning heroine. I loved her spunk and spirit as well as how she tried so hard to maintain her distance to the one creature that changed her life for all time.

If you are a lover of paranormal romance and your looking for the kind of story that will engulf you and capture your attention to the last page, then Undying Hunger by Jessica Lee is the book for you! I give this story a MIGHTY FINE FOUR AND A HALF STARS!

Markus is a desperate man trapped between bloodlust and love. Willing to do anything, sacrifice everything, to save the only woman capable of shining light on his blackened heart. Pushing her away, knowing she will hate him for the rest of her days, is the hardest thing he has ever done. But for Markus, knowing she is alive is worth every moment he spends alone.

Trapped in a world of darkness and danger, Alexandria curses Markus every day for ruthlessly ripping her human life away. To her everlasting dismay, she feels inexplicably drawn to her former captor, and fights the pull of their blood bond with every breath she takes.

The scorching passion of Undying Hunger is irresistible. Markus and Alexandria's story is a supernova of epic proportions. I simply couldn't put it down. I love this series, and just when I think it can't get any better, Jessica Lee blows my mind and exceeds my wildest expectation. This is one series you do not want to miss!
