BRACKETS
The Final Four is going on in our Bracket of Brackets. Which do you like to argue about more? Alcohol or Hotties, and Nintendo games or Bond Movies? Go vote! They're both extremely close matches, right now.
DIAMOND TIGERS
Auburn had a BIG weekend on the diamond. The baseball team took 2 of 3 from Mississippi State, including Friday and Saturday shut-outs. They couldn't finish the sweep on Sunday, but winning the MSU series on the road is big confidence-wise for the Tigers, who were 1-5 in the SEC. They're now 3-6, and will face Samford in Birmingham on Tuesday and will be in town for a weekender with Arkansas starting Friday.
The softball team was also on the road, and won their series against #20 Missouri with Friday and Sunday victories. They run-ruled Mizzou on Friday, lost in extra innings 5-4 on Saturday for the first SEC loss of the season, and took the series finale 10-8 thanks to an Emily Carosone grand slam on Sunday. The ladies will be in town against Tennessee Thursday-Saturday of this week.
BASKETBALL
So, someone has started a GoFundMe page to try to pay Bruce Pearl's Auburn buyout to get him back to Tennessee. Go check it out if you want a good laugh. They have a ways to go.
Speaking of, you know there are going to be more Tennessee people pushing for that, so you can again check out my thoughts on it from Friday.
FOOTBALL
I remember reading that Derrick Moncrief wasn't very thrilled with his move to linebacker, originally, but it seems he's enjoying it, now.
According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Jeremy Johnson is out to prove he's not just a pocket passer. That's pretty funny considering most of the time you hear mobile quarterbacks saying they're out to prove they're more than just a running QB instead of hearing this way. You definitely heard the opposite at Auburn over the last few years. I think we'll be surprised at how much Johnson runs, this season. He's not Nick Marshall and he's not Cam Newton, but he's no slouch, either.
Carl Lawson say last season out with an injury, but he kept a close eye on those playing his position while he was injured. He was particularly impressed with DaVonte Lambert.
Marcus Davis is the likely candidate to take over Quan Bray's role as the punt returner and slot receiver, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. That's definitely a good fit for him. I was impressed by Davis during his freshman season. Quan Bray really stepped up his game in 2014 as a senior, so we didn't see Davis as much with Duke Williams and Sammie Coates filling the other receiver slots. This could be a big year for Davis. I certainly hope so.
AL.com says Auburn's defensive line being healthy could mean big things for junior Montravius Adams. I've mentioned it in my position reviews, but Adams is someone that I thought took a step back during the 2014 season as the season was going along, but upon further review realized that he actually performed much better in 2014. He could be set for a Fairley-esque season in 2015.
Jonathan Jones has gotten some love in the press, lately. AL.com wrote about him on Sunday and his emergence as a serious DB threat in a struggling Auburn secondary in 2015. ESPN.com recognized him for the same thing, listing him as one of the best defensive backs in the SEC.
Speaking of ESPN.com, they have a short blurb on Tray Matthews impressing Will Muschamp, and then also list Auburn's Carl Lawson as one of the Best of the SEC in the defensive front seven. They list him as a linebacker, in expectation of him taking on the Buck DE/LB hybrid in Will Muschamp's system.
