After reading some of your favorite teaching moments during our Teacher Appreciation Giveaway we knew we wanted to do more to help teachers this upcoming school year. We want to help inspire you heading into your new school year!
There has been a lot of negativity in the press and within the education industry surrounding teachers, their abilities, and the standards that have been set by those who don’t understand what it really takes to educate children. Quite often, the expectations and standards that are set for educators come from those who have never taught a class or created a lesson plan.
At S&S we know you’re exhausted! It’s hard to put your entire heart, mind and life into your profession because you truly love what you do, just to continue to hear that it is not always enough.
Teachers also serve as counselors, entertainers, role models, and social workers. You’re not only charged with teaching material to your students, but also with creating an interest in and excitement for math, literature, history, science, physical education, music and more.
How does the giveaway work?
We will choose 13 teachers who enter to win to each receive an S&S gift card to kick off the school year. One winner will be chosen to receive a $1,000 S&S E-Gift Card, two winners will be chosen to receive a $250 S&S E-Gift Card, and ten winners will be chosen to receive a $100 S&S E-Gift Card.

#SchoolYearResolution My School Year Resolution is to go to Twitter often and learn from some of the most respected PE teachers on the planet. I have just joined Twitter and have already learned some things, so I want to continue and get more familiar with Twitter, to the benefit of my students!
My #Schoolyear resolution is to take my pre k exceptional student education students to the sensory room to give them what they need everyday.
I teach third graders. I have a challenging group of students. My #SchoolYearResolution is to be that teacher they remember when they are older. I hope to find ways to meet this extremely animated group of students that are in my room this year. I am gearing up for the challenge and hoping for a connection that will allow them to amaze me as well as surprise themselves. I can’t wait to see how these kids’ personalities will color my walls. 🙂
My new (school) year resolution is to start a choir at my school, and to be a positive leader on my campus. It’s gonna be a great year!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to finish my master’s degree!
My school year resolution is to inspire creativity in others.Angela Hendricks
My school year resolution is to plan ahead and not let myself fall behind! #SchoolYearResolutionCarmen Van Deursen
My #SchoolYearResolution is to be more creative in my approach in reading.Jessica Hagashi
My goal this year is too be more flexible. Too rigid is a recipe for frustration!!Kymmberly Mann
As a new teacher, I have many teaching resolutions that I would like to pursue; however, there is one I feel extremely passionate about: Allowing students to embrace their own learning. I feel that 21st century learning is active and engages students at all levels of education. I hope to help my students to discover their life’s purpose, their gifts, and the shape of their intelligence. I want to guide them to strive for success in this fast-paced and rapidly changing world in which they live. When they internalize their purpose it ignites choice, passion, motivation, direction, and will; the perfect conditions for success. In this state they can focus their eyes on the future, expectant of new challenges, and simply view problems as resolutions in disguise. This is my #SchoolYearResolutionKathy Fields
My #SchoolYearResolution is to remember that kids come from all kinds of homes and for many of them, school is the safe place to be. When I am working with my students identified most at risk, I will remind myself they don’t all think, believe, experience the same way I did/do and I must meet them where they are coming from in helping them find success.Rachel Seibert
My #SchoolYearResolution is to find, borrow, buy, loan and get novels for my students at their individual reading level. I teach at one of the only public all-girls schools in our state and my classes consist of a huge range of reading levels. Last year I had one class with students reading as low as on a second grade level to as high as a tenth grade level, all in one sixth grade classroom! With such a wide reading range I have found literature circles to be the most effective teaching strategy to meet each girl at her level, while still challenging her to excell. However, with over 100 students and all different lexile levels of reading it was literally impossible for me to find the books in the genre that I needed. For example, last year I wanted to do a literature circle unit focused on nonfiction novels of the Civil Rights Movement but I could not find books at the low reading levels that I needed! I ended up going to the public library at least one to two times a week trying to pick up novels, return and renew novels that I needed. If I could just own copies of the books that I needed I would be able to better focus my time on my girls, grading their work and designing lessons to extend their learning in each of their books. I know it sounds strange in the year 2015 with all of the technology that we have to be asking for novels but it is my #SchoolYearResolution! Some of my students come from extremely rough home lives, some of my students are refugees, some of my students are learning English as a Second Language and some of my students have support at home. As a teacher to all of them I feel that every young girl deserves a book that will challenge her, inspire her, get her excited about reading and at the same time not overwhelm her! It is possible! The books are written I just need them in my classroom! Thank you for your consideration!

#SCHOOLYEARRESOLUTION…to incorporate Project-Based Learning in my classroom and allow the students to fully explore, experiment, learn, and achieve in the world of which they are such a critical part. I want my students to discover that they are valuable and have the ability to change the world one thought, one idea, and one action at a time!
Hello, I am the Director for an after-school enrichment program. I am dedicated to making a difference in my kids lives. I have so many youth in my program that struggle each day not with school work but with “home” work. These kids come to me with problems no child should even know about let alone have to deal with.
My School Year Resolution – learn to teach my kids how to protect themselves from the world they are living in. Teach them that they don’t have to stay where they are, that they can grow and move forward. That they are not destined to be street thugs and thots. My kids deserve better but they are given the worst of every thing. From dysfunctional family life to bullying in school from other kids and teachers too. I fight everyday to lift my kids up to the King and Queen status they deserve.
My School Year Resolution – protect and guide my kids, survive to keep them going strong.

As a traveling homebound teacher of medically fragile, sick, and disabled students, I am always challenged with finding work to stimulate my students. They are all ages and have varying abilities. IPADS provide entertaining lessons and stories, but I would like to share more tangible materials to use with these students. Books for all ages, flash cards, white boards and markers, music, play doh, chalk, bubbles, and many other materials help stimulate their learning as well as making learning fun. These students LOVE new ideas and often times it falls on the tachers to supply these extra supplies. Any help given would be a blessing.
My resolution is to increase the level of higher order thinking opportunities that my students are given in each lesson. I want to grow thinkers and lovers of learning. #SchoolYearResolution
My resolution, this year, is to have my students more engaged by providing more interesting and interactive lessons.
I love it. There are so many great ideas out there and we have to keep up with their interests 🙂
My new school year resolution is to bring the great technology from my summer JSTI camp into the classroom. I built a 3D printer this summer and was able to learn how to create 3D projects and print them, along with learning how to make adjustments when needed to the printer. My students have just started school this past Tuesday and can’t wait to begin!!
That is exciting.
My resolution is to motivate my students to do well in their other subjects through the world of travel and tourism; and let them know that there is a whole world ready to be explored outside the rural community that they live in and that high school is just a small stepping stone to making many happy memories that will last a lifetime.
My New School Years Resolution is to: BE my best for each of my students.BE a good team leader and build love for each other. I want to BE patient, BE kind, BE a good listener, BE prepared, and BE THERE for all of my children. I want to help my students to BE the best that they can possibly be. BE ready to learn, BE kind to themselves and their classmates, BE responsible for their actions and their learning, BE respectful team mates to their classmates. BE the best that they can BE by sharing love and understanding, compassion and friendship throughout our year together.
I really like how you started with your examples of how to BE! Hope you are able to accomplish this!
Laura, there are lots of “BE” bulletin boards on pinterest to go with your theme!
My school year resolution is to plan ahead and not let myself fall behind! #SchoolYearResolution
That’s great. Planning takes more time then the actual lesson!
Yes, Kelly, it does! That is why I am still at school!!!
Yes, that is a great resolution!!! Good luck with your school year!
Best plan of action!! That way you are better prepared for the curve balls the year can bring!
#SchoolYearResolution I want to engage my students in such a way as they will desire to become responsible participants in our society through volunteering, voting, and becoming involved in government.
What grade do you teach? Also will you have some type of voting system in your classroom?
This is a good year to do it with the election and so many different opinions out there….you could teach them “how” to disagree with someone of a differing opinion!
I hope you are successful in your desire to help your students to be engaged citizens. We need that!
You are their best example! I wish you the best!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to not procrastinate!
Yes! Today is the first day of school and I have to say I was here very late last night!!! But it DID get done! Have a great school year!
I tend to start something and then go to the next thing and pretty soon I have 5 things that I am working on at the same time.
There are times when I know what it feels like to be easily distracted. I too start one thing, see something else and then realize that I need to go back and finish what I began in the beginning! I hope you have a wonderful school year.
I hope you are successful!
This school term, I am determine to have fun while engaging my students! I plan to LEARN with them. I want to put the “FUN” back into learning using the variety of tools (FREE I should ad) I have practiced with and learned during my summer professional development. I started flipping the classroom last school term and plan to continue this term with the 1:1 laptop initiative that will be implemented in my school district this fall. I have also been developing the course I teach online and will be incorporating blended learning. I am excited about meeting my students in a couple of weeks! Let the FUN begin!
Get on Youtube and look for “classroom cheers….” They are so fun and we are starting those this year!
What grade do you teach? I am planning on flipping my classroom this year as well.
I hope you “flip” in a great way and not “flip out” when you least expect it! Have fun and a great year! 🙂
Laura, you are good with words!
The technology is awesome! I hope you are able to reach your students an a whole different level!
My School Year Resolution is To Be The Best I Can Be, So That My Students of Intellectual Disabilities Can Be The They Can Be. I Also Promise To Use Many More Resources That I Can Find and To Show My STUDENTS THAT THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. I say all this, BUT THE ONE THING I REALLY WANT IS TO FEEL LIKE WE MATTER TO, I SAY THIS BECAUSE I’M A TEACHER ASSISTANT WITH A BIG HEART!!!!
Yes, we just love and love and sometimes we get it in return and sometimes we don’t but we do it anyway!
Teaching assistants are SOOO important! Work hard and have a great year. Your students and teachers could not make it through the day, let alone the year without you. I know, I was an aide, and am now the teacher with an amazing aide.
You will make life long impressions on these students even being a TA! They are lucky to have a person like you in their lives!!!
This year is my LoveBugs 1 year sge goes into pre-school. This is all new to mommy so trying to make sure she gets everything she needs!!!! Supplies for school then supplies for daycare then supplies for home therapy sessions (she is Autistic, so she in 3 separate programs) mommy needs alot of supplies and soooooo not ready. This could help her alot, she so in need of everything. Would love to also be able to get her a tablet as her therapist say she loves it and it helps a lot!!! #SchoolYearResolution
Good luck with your year, Jenny!
Aw, these are the precious years!! I remember juggling so many different sessions and managing bags for each! I hope she grows leaps and bounds!
This school year, my resolution is to remember that every action is an expression of love or a call for love. I’ll remind myself of this when I begin to feel frustrated with their behaviors, and I will shower them with love.
Love is something if you give it away…..it always comes back in one form or another!
They will respect you for dealing with them in a fair and loving manner (especially those behavior problems in your class!) have a great year!
Unconditional Love is the greatest gift we can give. Love this!!
Unconditional Love is the greatest gift we can give. Love this!!
My “School Year Resolution” I will strive to connect with my students daily to help them achieve success and prepare for the future. I will support my students with disabilities to help make the classroom accessible for all students and to increase their skills.
God bless you teachers who deal with students with disabilites. God bless you and have a great year!
You are among the few that truly go beyond the custodial staff and make your room accessible for students with disabilities! Doing this will help your connections with their parents.
I will roll out of bed with a prayer on my lips and a song in my heart as I prepare to teach and be taught by the energetic, enlightened, excited children with whom I will have the pleasure of interacting. It will be my goal to keep that light in their eyes burning brightly throughout each day of the year so the song in their hearts will become more melodic and uplifting.
Rolling out of bed with a PRAYER ….there is no better way!
Love how you are not relying on your strength alone! My prayers go with you as you set out to accomplish this!
We can do ALL things through Him who gives us strength! Your students will be blessed for your hearts desire!!
My School Year Resolution is to:
1) Relationally
LISTEN to and connect with my students (their well-being and needs) & their parents
2) Adminstratively
Stay organized
3) Professionally
Be courageous and disciplined to grow in my own musical & teaching skills
You sound like a WONDERFUL teacher!!!
Your 2nd goal that a lot of us struggle with! Best wishes to you!
Days that feel like my pencils are not sharpened or my crayons not wrapped, will finally come to an end when the bell rings. Days where my balloons fly higher, and the markers flow with brilliant colors will linger in my smile as I close my classroom door. What will it be this day in the room?
I cannot control my days, but I can control my actions; therefore, I resolve to smile with each young one in my care every day as much as possible, because my smile might be the only one they see.
Peace begins with a smile….according to Mother Teresa!
I whole heartedly agree with you! The only one who can control your actions but you! Have a great year!
Yes, “Peace begins with a smile..” by Mother Teresa. You are thoughtful….and I’ll bet your students know it!
Kimberly, you sound wonderful! Yes, one student at a time!
I wish you the best year of discovery and learning!
My resolution for this year is to remain calm, and remember why I started teaching in the first place. I want to have a joyful year with the children!
Yes, we must remain calm and not lose our cool! Have a GREAT year!
It only takes one or two students to test your joyfulness! I hope you are able to accomplish this!
I will strive to listen and really hear what each student is telling me about themselves. I work in an urban setting where students are often exposed to a lot early. I would use the money for mental health tools that can be used to help students work on social skills, relationship skills and goal setting.
How wonderful: working on social skill and really listening. Good luck to you and God Bless!
All of these, social skills, relationship skills, and goal setting are important in having well rounded students!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to remain calm and respond in kindness to students no matter how frustrating a situation may be, and to provide strategies and tools to students (and myself) to prevent these situations.
Joyce, yes, remaining calm is so important! Good luck to you!
I have a sign in my room that reads, “Keep calm and raise your hand”. Now, that I have seen your post, I will make one that reads “Keep calm and respond with kindness”!
These are important for me to emulate so students will follow!
Have a great year!
Oh how I love this!!!!
I teach student with intellectual disabilities. They have so many hurdles to overcome academically and functionally. My school year resolution is to teach the students that: “Today is a good day to have a good day” . . . period
Jane, thank God for wonderful teachers and individuals like YOU!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to be more creative in my approach in reading.
I think this is a wonderful idea…instead of doing the same things!
#MySchoolYearResolution
This will be my second year teaching fourth grade social studies and I want to give my students the opportunity of virtual travels. We can go anywhere we want using technology. My resolution is to be more creative with global technology in the social studies classroom.
Carmel, this sounds like a fantastic idea! I am excited about it myself. I wish you taught in my school!
My #School Year Resolution is to fully enjoy teaching what I learned (as I was teaching) last year. I previously taught mathematics for 24 years and was asked to teach 6th grade social studies. (the Middle East) With optimism, I Jumped in with both feet and made it through the year. Although there were struggles, I plan to return this year with hopes to enlighten my students with projects and activities that with bring better understanding and real life meaning to them.
Change is never easy and it sounds like you really EMBRACED it!
What a growing moment! I am glad you embraced the change and are enthusiastic! Have a great year!
Teaching involves commitment, dedication, and a love and respect for the profession that goes beyond the reading, writing, testing and teaching subjects. I teach not for a moment but for a lifetime. In other words, I teach my students to live. Yes, I believe we must help them meet the basic needs to survive but also teach them to cope with everyday life.
You are so right….they cannot learn without being able to “cope.” Good luck!
To help them “cope” successfully, you have to help them know who they are, what their strengths and challenges are. However, before you can help them, you have to know who you are and where/how that intersects with who they are.
All of the guided practice of life skills you provide are invaluable! You are making such an impact! Have a great year!
It takes the whole village to raise a child. Therefore, any type of discount, incentive, donation, gift or freebie is greatly appreciated, especially when a high percent of our students are receiving free and reduced lunch. We have dedicated and hard working parents trying to make ends meet, but their budgets are very limited. Also, we are striving to meet the academic, emotional, physical and technological needs of our students. Hope Mills Middle School’s theme is Diversity: Educate, Empower, Embrace (E3). Again, thanks for helping not only teachers but everyone who deserves a great opportunity to get an excellent education.
Good luck to you in your school year! You sound awesome!
I really like the last of the E’s-Embrace! This is where we as teachers see the biggest growth in our students, when they embrace what they are taught! Good luck this year!
Yes, you are so right. I am very proud all my kids and their parents strive so hard everyday just to make a small difference in their lives.
I pledge to keep myself healthy this year. When I am healthy, it is much easier to keep a positive learning environment for my students. All summer I have worked on this goal to prepare to return to school healthy and happy. Haim Ginnot’s quote has always been posted by my desk, but this year I strive to be healthier and happier in order to set a positive classroom environment.
“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.” Haim Ginnot
Powerful quotes! I, too think teachers must be healthy in order to be the best for their students. I love my FitBit and I think this helps me do this!
I love this! I’m making a copy for my office. Thank you.
Oh, I love that quote. Thank you for sharing that!
“It’s my personal approach that creates the climate…” I whole heartedly believe this! Thanks for the quote! Have a great year!
This year, my resolution is to stay positive and focused. I will remember why I’m a teacher; to educate, prepare, engage, and inspire my students! 🙂 I will remember that I am a great teacher regardless of all of the negativity and pressures on the profession. I’ll put my students’ success first and have a positive, happy, fun year! 😀
Yes, we must inspire our students!
Good luck! I’ve found writing those down in a place that I can read every day really helps keep me focused!
YOU are a great teacher regardless of all of the negativity and pressures on the profession! I wanted to turn this around and affirm this statement for you! Thanks for posting! May this be a fabulous year for you!
My resolution is to provide a safe haven for students to relax, feel free to express themselves and their opinions that matter to them and the world they will be shaping. They may not remember everything you teach them, but they will remember how you treat them. We don’t make a lot, but we have treasures in the faces of young adults that always come back to us. Time is money best spent. My resolution is to be fit, to make my coworkers smile, to inspire and perspire, to love a good book, to cry at a good movie, and to hug my wife and kids until they laughingly said, let go!
Yes, they will remember how we treat them!
Sounds wonderful! Make sure you write all that down so you don’t forget any of it!
Amen!! We don’t make a lot, but the reward comes from knowing we had a part of our student’s successes! May you have a great year!
I teach adult ESOL and work primarily with low level learners. My #SchoolYearResolution is to provide more focused reading and writing practice to help my adult learners achieve their goals. Also, I hope to incorporate more enjoyable computer-based activities into my lessons.
I’ll bet you have a lot of patience!
Sounds great! Make that writing practice pertain to real life and be in practical settings and it will be so powerful!
You have an amazing group of students! I hope you are able to find the programs that will support your curriculum!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to help EVERY student in my physical education classes discover fun ways to stay active for a lifetime! If I provide enough options, surely they’re going to find SOMETHING to enjoy!
I agree ! And a big dose of FUN!
Oh, so powerful! I wish you luck for your students’ sake. Being able to be active and healthy helps take you so much further in life!
You capture their interests and you will be encouraging our future athletes.
My new school year resolution is to create more moments for my students to shine. I want to highlight what makes each student special and unique. By allowing my students to shine when sharing their love of a subject or activity, I can encourage them to try and/or embrace someone else’s passion as well.
Learning from their peers is so powerful!
Encouraging your students to embrace another’s ideals is the best lesson to be learned!
The books are written I just need them in my classroom! Thank you for your consideration!
You sound like a very dedicated teacher. No about of technology will ever replace a novel!
Try Donor Choose to get money donations, and you can also go to Reading A-Z for great books on different reading levels!
I will try that as well. Thank you!
I agree! Having the book is the best way to build a connection between the reader and the story. I use our local Library’s book sales to build my library as well as garage sales and even former families. There is nothing like a good book! Happy hunting!
Denise, a teacher’s work is never done, is it?!
Nope, we are always planning and hunting for things even during summer vacation!!
My goal this year is to let my fun side show more frequently. Students will work harder for teachers who show they care about them. I want to mix in items that are of interest to their generation to help hook them into knowing the content I want them to learn. I look to incorporate more music, art, and hands-on projects to accomplish my goal.
Yes, we are doing “10 ways to praise” fun hand motions over the morning video announcments. Should be a great start to the day!
Michelle, I totally agree that students will work harder when they know you care. Being yourself and incorporating your sense of humor into lessons is a great way to help students remember what you’re teaching!
I’ve found that once I set a strong and healthy classroom environment, the fun comes naturally! Good luck. A great song is the 50 Nifty United States – did it every day with my second graders – imagine that – they actually now know that we have 50 states in the United States and can name them all!
That is wonderful. I will look up this song!
There is nothing like a little comedic relief to help make a connection and encourage learning!! I hope you are successful!
My school year resolution is to be more organized and to try not to procrastinate.
Hi Rachel,
I work in a very well off area of northwest ar. I myself have an extensive library as do others. I bet if you sent us a list of your novel needs, we might be able to help you locate some books. Also, have you considered a Go Fund Me? As a literacy teacher- I think you are doing a wonderful service to your students by putting real books in their hand at lexile levels they can read. Scholastic may also donate some books to you when they hear what you are trying to do.Let me know if I can help.
The best thing I’ve found for both of those is to make myself a list. I even have a list that I copy every week because I usually have the same things to prep for each week. Then I add to it as needed. And you can even prioritize it so you know what has to get done first. My goal was to start my list on Monday and have everything done by Wednesday for the following week, so that when the surprises popped up they were manageable rather than stressful. Good luck!
I agree! I get my running into the copy room no later than Wednesday and try and turn my lesson plans in by Friday, so I have the weekend to prepare if the need arises. I hope you are able to find your groove!
Yes, I need help in procrastination as well! School starts tomorrow and today is CRAZY!
My #SchoolYearResolution this year is to bring the fun back to the classroom by creating a more Learner-Active Classroom and having my students take charge of their own learning. This will mean crafting real-world problems for them to solve in order to understand the content in a meaningful way. They will have choices of activities based on their learning styles. This opportunity would give me funds to create more hands-on stations and infuse more technology projects in the classroom. Hard to do at the high school language arts level, but I am looking forward to the challenge!
Good luck to you! Active learning is important for each and everyone of our classrooms.
Great idea! I did this at the elementary level and it was absolutely amazing! The best teaching I’ve ever done! And I found it to be much easier to plan – you just had to create the means for them to discover the learning. It was extremely powerful and very impactful – the students owned their learning and remembered everything they had learned over that year, rather than just doing worksheets and activities that were very teacher lead that in the past had not been as lasting with the students.
I love assignments that have different activity choices! You will have happier students and better results!
After a very shaky and action packed school year last year, I resolve to be more engaging and to teach more enthusiastically.
Yes, enthusiasm is the key to all teaching.
Great goal. The key is to be present. In order for you to be the best teacher for your students, make sure you take care of yourself and our healthy in mind, body and spirit. Then you will find you are able to enjoy all the moments that come your way (both those that are perceived as being good and bad).
Excellent! There is nothing worse than a dry teacher! I hope you accomplish your goal!
Yes, well said, Denise!
My resolution this year is to remember I do what I do for my students. At times we are the only constant in their lives-make that time count. Have a GREAT school year all!!!
Yes, everything must be student centered.
Yes. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed and consumed by all the “extra” responsibilities that we as teachers have. If you keep your focus on the students, you find that everything else falls into place and it helps to keep everything in perspective (it helps you filter out the unimportant).
I am so happy that you don’t see this profession as a paycheck!! We impact lives in so many ways! I hope you are very successful this year!
My goal this year is to involve my parents more. When parents are involved with their child’s learning, children are more excited about showing parents what they have learned or what they are learning! Children are eager to learn because they want to please their parents!
Yes, I was just reading an article about this. Also the advantage to parents is that they get to know the teacher and what they expect of the student.
That’s a great goal. I think we need to have a movement in schools to have a much more “together” working structure with parents rather than an “us” verses “them” mentality.
This is a great goal! I hope you are able to make the connections that encourage your parents to make the time to spend with their children!
My resolution is to increase my students’ achievement and FUN by keeping them active and their brains engaged!
Yes, if it includes fun then they will want to be lifelong movers.
And keep their brains working! Look into Brain Gym – great thing for transitions!
I love an active classroom! It helps those students that struggle with sitting still all day! You will make a lasting impression!!
Christine, I learned about The Responsive Classroom this summer and they have a book titled, “88 Energizers for the Classroom,” and this would be a great way to incorporate movement and possibly serve as a quick review of content while the students have “fun.”
#SchoolYearResolution for me is that my class of first graders will gain the ability to independently read that lays a foundation of their future school years. I want to build this foundation and make a difference in their lives.
First grade teachers have such an important job. I admire you all.
Have you looked at “Cafe” for helping you to structure this?! It’s great! Good luck – very doable!
Besides the curriculum, Read, Read, Read along with them, to them and them to you!! Share your enthusiasm for books and they will follow!! The best time is sitting on the floor pouring over a book with your students! Those were the best moments of my day as a First Grade teacher! I hope you make great connections an have fabulous readers!
This school year, my resolution is to have a better connection with my students.
Yes, because no connection equals no learning. I know you will do just great. What a wonderful goal!
I have found the best way to do this is to be present – be in the moment. Also, you need to have clear classroom expectations, and with that, consequences. When you have a healthy classroom environment, the connections occur automatically.
Yes, because you have come to expect “respect,” and taught them that from the first day!
Start spending a few lunchtimes in the cafeteria with your students! I pick a table of my students at random and just chat. I get more work done in the class because they have had a chance to tell their stories and they feel special because I sat at their table. You will earn a whole level of respect with your students because you have given them some time! Have a great year!
My #SchoolResolution is to serve every teacher and gifted student in my thirteen schools this year in such a way that the teachers have the materials and lessons needed to allow our gifted children the opportunities to expand, enrich, and explore the depth and complexity of topics in their areas of interest.
It sounds like you are leading the future leaders of our country. Good luck to you. It sounds like you’re taking it very seriously, which is good for our country’s future.
That’s a huge undertaking. Good luck! I know your teachers will be thankful for the involvement and support!
I hope you are successful!!
It is my resolution for my students to feel a sense of ownership in our classroom. During the first days we’re together I hope to get to know my children on a personal level, so there is a climate of trust and respect. If children want to come to school, I have done half my job.
A climate of respect is the foundation on which all of our students learn. Good for you!
That’s so true! And if they feel comfortable in your classroom, their learning will reach new heights! Clear expectations and consequences is the key!
You create the environment they will want to come! I hope you are successful!’
I am a first year teacher and I need lots of help with building up my classroom. My #SchoolYearResolution is to create a comfort and hands on learning environment for my students.
Good luck in your first year of teaching! You will find that you will love teaching. The students are not perfect the schools are not perfect but you will make a difference! God bless you
Congratulations on your first year of teaching! Be sure to have clear expectations and directions for your hands-on learning stations so they can be purposeful and successful!
Welcome to the most rewarding profession on the planet! I hope you have a great impact on your students! Make intentional connections with your parents through communication and working together as well as setting a tone of mutual respect! Have a great year!
My resolution for this school year is to differentiate my instruction so that each child’s needs are met and he/she can learn to his/her fullest potential!
I need to, that involves a lot of hard work. I know you’ll do it. God bless you!
Yes! This is so important. And when you set up your classroom in this style, you’ll find it’s not so difficult after all. A great way is to set learning goals with each student. My students had a goal in math, reading, and writing to start off with. We reviewed their writing based on their goals, we started each reading session talking about their goals and then conferencing about their progress, and in math they had a partner that helped them accomplish their goals! Good luck! It’s worth it!
I hope you successfully reach your students this year!
This year’s resolution is to enjoy my teaching, not to be so stubborn and on task, but not lazy. I want to learn each of my children’s learning abilities so they can enjoy learning. I really want to explore more outside the school work. Also to have our bible lesson every morning….we have a tendency to push that a side to jump right in to the school work.
I love the idea of a Bible lesson every day. God bless you and have a great school year
That’s awesome you get to have a Bible lesson every morning. And I bet you’ll find that if you’re consistent with that, that it will help you and your students to enjoy the day more!
I start the day with our Bible lesson so we can apply it during the day. Prayer requests time first thing also helps relieve some of the tension my students come in the door with from home, that way they can concentrate better on the academics. Have a great year!
Enjoy the year and have fun
Brian, having fun and enjoying the year is a big part of what we do, isn’t it?
Always important! Have a great year.
So true, in their mind, why should they bother if it’s not enjoyable
You can’t go wrong with that. I hope you’re successful!
I hope you are successful!
“One step at a time” is our resolution for the year 2015-2016.
Yes, sometimes I put too much on my plate so this is a good reminder.
I agree!
This is important to remember, especially at the beginning of the year.
Yes, and my family and I find ourselves doing the same thing at home. You can only accomplish one step at a time, and when you set some goals, you’re able to make progress and actually reach the big goal! Kind of like Dave Ramsey’s debt snowball :).
Excellent! to be able to instill this concept in the minds of your students will be an effective life skill! I wish I learned it at young age!
My resolution for this school year is to involve every student in reaching his or her full potential. I plan to work with each student on his/her level and bring them up to the highest level they can reach. I plan to reward each gain positively to create a desire in the students to reach goals their parents will be proud of. As our school adopts the ONE TEAM ONE MISSION slogan, I resolve to be available to my co-workers in sharing ideas and planning lessons to work efficiently.
Reboarding with positive actions is something that your students can look forward to!
I really like that slogan.
Yep , and practice those steps
I love collaborating with the teachers on our site! It is the best way to work efficiently! I hope it works well for you!
If your mindset is strong on the opinion that all students truly can learn, then you will do whatever it takes to help your students achieve that. It’s all about your mindset. And it’s so rewarding to share with your colleagues – it’s amazing how much you grow that way. When you collaborate with your peers, you’re better able to help your children learn how to do the same!
My resolutions this year are to help each of my students stay encouraged and engaged. I intend to do this through relationship building and more writing of positive notes, emails, and posts. I also intend to institute a peer group leadership, with competitions and rewards, to help students encourage one another academically. I also am determined to help them increase their reading abilities through more differentiated individual and group instruction.
Relationship building is the foundation of all education!
Individualizing is the key to a successful year!
I am going to work on differentiating through the use of centers.
Children love to get postcards!
What a great idea!!!!! When do you send them postcards?
My third grade teacher used to leave us positive notes in our desks! I do that today, too. I love the looks on my students faces as they realize its from me! I hope you make some lasting connections this year from your notes!
I think if you focus on your differentiated learning, you will see the students focus and engagement be very strong. They’ll feel like they can learn, like you care that they learn, and they will begin to internalize that drive to learn!
This year I hope to continually tell my students that every little bit counts and it’s never too late to start- Not everyone will begin to work at the exact same time or place in the school year. As a Spanish teacher I see many students overwhelmed with the amount of material they have to learn – by helping them to start and do a little bit every day my students can and are successful at learning Spanish!
Yes, every effort counts!
The background that our children come with should be a consideration when pacing the instruction we give.
These are excellent goals. I wish you the best!
I love that you are willing to help your students break the work into smaller chunks and prioritize! You are giving them a life skill that many of us adults wish we were better at!
step-by-step right?!
My resolution for this upcoming school year is two-fold. First, to pass all of my student teaching evaluations error free with my students helping to make this happen. Also, to see all of my students raise their math grades 5-10% points in their grades. Since I teach below average math students, this rise in their grades will be like getting an A+!
What wonderful goals! Good luck in your school year.
These are wonderful goals. Good luck!
Good luck.. Teaching is so great!
Good luck! But remember, we can always improve, so making an error isn’t the end of the world. I hope your students grow leaps and bounds this year – you’re working with students whom you can make a huge difference for!
It’s a Stand by Me moment! I hope you are successful!
Our resolution is to build a school-wide literacy culture that is driven by empowered teachers, fueled by curious and confident students, and supported by supported parents–where reading, writing, listening and speaking come ALIVE for everyone in our midst! Readers change the world…
Yes, we must continue to teach the importance of reading.
We are developing that culture by having a school-wide book study, using The One and Only Ivan. It should be fabulous!
This is such a great goal! I hope you are able to “read” by example!
Yes, I’ve found if you show a love of reading that it’s quite contagious!
This will be my 38th year in education, 30 of those years have been in special education. I plan to retire at the end of this year. I want this year to be just as amazing and exciting as my very first one was all those years ago. I have met some wonderful children who grew to be wonderful adults and they taught me far more about life and love and living than I could ever hope to teach them.
Thank you very much for your service to the children: our future.
What a wonderful resolution! Over time we as teachers begin to see our students grow up and become amazing human beings. That is why we do what we do!
Wow! I hope you are given an amazing send off!
Congratulations! And I hope this can be one of your best years!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to make frequent parent contacts for outstanding behavior and successes. Too many times the only contact we have with parents is to tell them what their child is doing wrong and I’m sure it can be very frustrating. I want the students to share their educational experiences with their parents !
Amen!!!!!
By sharing the positive, it will result in much stronger parent involvement and support.
Excellent! Those positive contacts help a great deal when you do have to call about behavior issues!
That’s great. Having a binder that can travel back and forth from home to school works great for this, where students can share their work and what they’re learning about!
This year I will strive for every one of my students to be able to say they did their personal best and are ready to move ahead.
Yes, teaching personal excellence should be taught from the first day of school onward.
Motivation is the key. It is not always easy, but so rewarding!
Great! At the end of the day I would ask my students if they feel good about all the decisions they made that day – it’s a great way to help them learn how to reflect and be responsible for their own actions and learning.
Those are very powerful words, “I did my best!” I hope you are successful!
I love your idea! I also want to end my day asking students what the best part of their day was and what they enjoyed learning the most. Good luck!
Our School’s School Year Resolution is “It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become” by Dr. Seuss. My school year resolution for myself and to instill in my students is to find a purpose in each and every day of life.
Yes, teaching them to strive for excellence makes each day a new opportunity.
Dr. Seuss was a wise man. I always begin and end the year by reading Oh, the Places You’ll Go. Love it!
Sounds great! With my students we would make personal goals – helps to bring focus to each day and to the work they put forth each day.
That type of introspection is very important to learn! I hope you make an impact!
My resolution is to be organized and to keep up with everything!
Yes, organization is of utmost importance.
Kids can tell from the very first day whether we are organized or not, and their behavior is reflective of that knowledge.
I wish you the best! I am working on that one, too!
Good luck! Lists are a great way to do this – they help hold yourself accountable.
My School Year Resolution is to help my students develop that lifelong passion for learning. It is sad to hear adults admit that they haven’t read a book since they left school. I want to help my students realize that the world is a wonderful place that never stops growing and changing. That in order to keep up in this day and age learning can’t stop at the end of formal education, but that every day is full of opportunities to continue to grow and learn.
Yes, students realizing that every day is filled with opportunities is so important.
I know I always strive to motivate my children to be lifelong learners. Great goal!
Great goal! Giving your students independence in their learning is key to accomplishing this.
We have the battle with the electronics over reading a book often. Thank God for Kindles! Have a great year!
My #schoolyearresolution is to remember the names of students who visit the Learning Commons and engage them in conversation about the books they read.
Remembering a students name is so important
That is a great goal for a teacher who sees so many children each day. Imagine how impressed they will be to hear you call them by name!
To remember a students name makes them feel important! I hope you accomplish this goal!
I know that when someone remembers my name, it makes me feel really good! Great goal!
Since I work with elementary students who struggle with math, this school year, my resolution is to design activities that encourage my students and parents to work together at home to strengthen the skill taught in school.
Great idea Michelle!
If our children realize that there is a strong home-school connection, they are more invested in what they are learning!
I hope you are able to accomplish this! It will also help strengthen family bonds!
Good idea! One way to do this is to make game bags that the students take home to play with their parents for a week or two, and return and exchange for a new game!
My resolution is to stay organized through out the entire school year. I always start out doing great, but then as things become more and more rushed, I start putting things aside and then by the end of the year I feel like my room has been hit by a tornado!
I could have written the same words. Good luck this year!
I’m with you. We often get overwhelmed with all that is expected of us as the year progresses. Over the years I have realized that our students can really help me to stay organized. I love when mine organize and monitor my class library!
I hope you are only willing to take on what you can finish and you are successful this year!
Organization is key! It’s also important so the students can feel organized and calm in their learning environment!
My school year’s resolution is simple: I hope to increase every students reading level by at least three years. So, if a student comes to me at a 4th grade reading level, I hope they will leave with at least a 7th grade reading level (or possibly higher). I teach 7th grade language arts.
What a wonderful goal. I know you’ll do it.
So much of accomplishing this goal lies in finding literature that the students are passionate about, so they can read outside of school on a regular basis. Read aloud is also a great way to get kids excited about reading.
I hope you are able to make the connections that encourage your readers to strive on! Good luck this year!
Great goal! With differentiated learning, reading groups, guided reading, and individual reading, it’s definitely possible!
My school year resolution is to have all of our students feel safe and comfortable at school so they can be active learners who are free to express their creativity in their own individualized ways.
Yes, if a student does not feel safe, there is no way they will be able to learn.
I hope you are able to create this safe kind of environment in your classroom!
I hope that happens, for the student’s sake! Great goal!
My school year resolution is to show my students how much I value them and how important they are!
They cannot learn without this!!
If you can accomplish this, then you will be their favorite teacher! Best of luck to you!
I think that’s wonderful! Love and logic is a great way to accomplish that!
Getting to know your students from day one and letting them get to know you is a huge step to accomplishing that goal. Good luck!
I want to commit to integrate science, math, and writing in more lessons!
You sound wonderful!!!!
It’s not as hard as you may think! It’ll make it so much more meaningful and enjoyable for you and your students!
Those cross curriculum connections are the best way to deepen student’s understanding! I wish you the best!
“This school year, my resolution is to help every student understand they are important and can do anything their hearts desire.”
Yes, letting each student know that they are very important is key to learning.
You will change their lives this year. I hope you are successful!
Helping them to set realistic goals and then helping them to achieve those goals is a great way to do that!
My 2015-2016 school year’s goal is to have students engage an eager to learn about foreign language and culture, to see them participate in cultural activities around town and share their experiences. Also to work with my fellow teachers to make this year a safe and rich of knowledge for our students. “Knowledge – no one can take it away from you!”
For the 2015-2016 school year I hope to have my students create some cool projects like a video game and model homes. By doing this they will be excited about math and will be using their critical think By skills as well.
Great ideas!
For the 2015-2016 school year I hope to have my students create some cool projects like a video game and model homes. By doing this they will be excited about math and will be using their critical think By skills as well.
For the 2015-2016 school year I hope to have my students create some cool projects like a video game and model homes. By doing this they will be excited about math and will be using their critical thinking skills as well.
Ahh…. Foreign language is so important and In our multicultural world !
Participating in cultural activities around town brings a good name to your school and only benefits the students
I love community involvement! Your students will learn so much!
Experiencing culture in their town – that would be great! And really fun to get to share their experiences with everyone! There is life outside of school – and a lot of knowledge out there to be discovered!
My new year’s resolution for 2015/16 is to stay organized and be consistent! I have trouble bouncing from one system to another when it comes to staying organized with paperwork, grading and general teacher forms. I hope to improve on this so that it is easier to access all I need at anytime in the year.
This is an area that I also need to work on!
You are not alone, I struggle with this, too! When you come up with a system, please share!! I hope the best for you!
Having a centralized list helps! Good luck!
I resolve to make my classroom as paperless as possible!
Lavonne! Good for you!
This is a great idea!
Excellent! You will be saving a lot of trees! You must have computer availability for all of you students this year!
That’s a great goal! The copier budget will be thankful!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to start a “Best Buddies” club at the High School I am starting at! Being a life skills teacher, this club will impact my student and the rest of the student body tremendously!
What a catchy name!!!!! Love best buddies!
Teaching students the value of giving back or helping where there is a need is priceless!
Awesome! I hope it’s successful!
This year, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for that one child (okay, more than one), who is at risk of falling through the cracks simply by virtue of who they are – quiet, well-behaved, introverted and reticent to ask for anything. You know the child I’m talking about – the one who gets overlooked simply because the more challenging students, the louder students, the boisterous students, the ever-questioning students – the extroverts (and I love them all!) – suck up all your time.
I will seek out that child and make sure that they KNOW that they are noticed, cared for and appreciated.
This is a good reminder for myself, thank you!
You will have an impact on those students which will be far reaching and life changing! I hope you accomplish you goal!
Making it a goal to notice all of your students is an honorable one! I know what you mean – we’ve all been there where we realize one slipped through our fingers. Once you admit that to yourself though, it’s quite easy not to skip over anyone anymore! Way to go!
My school year resolution is to become more creative with my lessons. I plan on using as many varied teaching tools as possible. I want to have my students leave school everyday and have to tell someone about their school day!
What a wonderful goal!
We need more teachers like you in our schools! I wish you the best!
That’s a great goal! Don’t burn yourself out though. Remember just to keep things varied and different – it doesn’t have to be a circus show every day!
My School Year Resolution is to lift my students in some way each day. I can lift their level of understanding, lift their confidence, or simply lift their spirits to achieve my goal.
Lift equals LOVE!
It only takes one smile or hello to brighten someone’s day!
I love trying to find the best in a students! This is so lacking in today’s students! I hope you are successful!
That’s a great one! I’ve made it a goal to write my students an encouraging note once a week – they look forward to them and enjoy doing the same thing for each other!
My 2015-2016 School year resolution. Combined city effort being part of a school community tackling the drug epidemic. Looking to start my new course with true effort and long term stamina!!!
Looking forward to the year starting, and thank you
Cara
Thank you for making that commitment.
Drug free schools take effort by all!
I hope and pray that your drug interventions are heard with a willingness to change and you DO have the strength to continue on. We are loosing so many to their grip!
Good luck! Hope it’s wildly successful!
My school year resolution is to collaborate with my colleagues so that we can make learning accessible for all students. I work with English Language Learners who come from diverse backgrounds and have experienced many struggles including loss of family, assimilating into a new culture, language barriers, bullying, housing difficulties and many more horrific conditions coming from war stricken countries. I want to make my classroom a safe place for them where they do not feel judged and are able to relax and feel comfortable. It is essential for me to provide culturally relevant pedagogy where I am culturally aware of the different customs of my students and share this with my colleagues. Collaborating is vital to provide my students with comprehensive input so that they can feel successful.
You have a lot of work cut out for yourself. You have a good vision, and I wish you all the best.
You sound like a caring and loving teacher!
I hope you are able to pick your causes so that you don’t burn out or feel overwhelmed! You have chosen worthy concerns! I hope you are successful!
Collaboration is so powerful. The more teachers do it on a campus, the more it just becomes a part of the entire school culture!
This year my school resolution is to keep my students engaged and excited about learning as much as possible! I want them to enter my class each day eager to learn and enthusiastic about any new subject matter that is presented.
I have a feeling that you are an enthusiastic teacher so that is very catchy !
Instilling excitement is a wonderful ingredient for student success!
Your enthusiasm will fuel your students desire to learn!
Keep things differentiated and let the students set goals – both really help in the students being involved in their own learning and getting to see their own growth!
I will encourage my students to have faith in themselves and their abilities so they can be the best student possible.
Yes, and faith begins with love!
Self-doubt can be very defeating! I hope you are very successful with this!
Children learn from your actions more than your words – model this and that will be so impactful!
My resolution for the upcoming school year is to make more time for my family
That is a worthy goal. Too often, in the process of caring for everyone else’s children, we forget to carve out special time for our own families. Good luck!
Such a delicate mix! Good luck to you.
I struggle with this at times, too. I hope you are able to prioritize your day so that you will have that extra time with you family!
You must be healthy yourself in order to provide a healthy learning environment for your students! That’s a great goal!
It is my desire to see my students excited about moving for and making gains in school. I am excited about learning; and I make every attempt to convey that to my students.
Being excited about moving begins with the teacher so good luck to you!
Your enthusiasm will be contagious!
Modeling is key! Kudos to you!
This school year, my resolution is to provide more play time to encourage socialization, communication emotional stability for my students.
Social skills is about most important says children need to learn to get along with others, beginning at an early age
Even the older students need that “play” time to be able to build those connections! Great resolution!
Children learn so much through play! Great goal!
My resolution is to teach my curriculum effectively with enthusiasm and vigor in an environment that is positive and emotionally safe. School is a harsh environment for some and the teacher’s attitude should be the one thing that is not. I want students to enter the door or my classroom expecting a welcome and a smile from their teacher. They deserve no less.
Peace begins with a smile, by mother Theresa. I believe it.
So often we forget that the way we act in our rooms will be reflected by our students, in their behavior and how they treat each other in the classroom. Thank you for striving to be such a great example!
I agree! Boundaries and love and logic help to make all that happen!
I want to do a better job of staying organized!
I struggle with this as well. Good luck to you and your school year!
I totally understand!!! I wish you the best!
Make yourself a list! It really works!
My resolution as the family liaison in our district is to get families more actively involved in their child’s education and to assist and educate the students , staff and families about how bullying effects our community as a whole. We need to work together to help our young students feel the success they deserve. Good luck everyone in there 2015-2016 school year. Sending you strength, peace and compassion for the upcoming school year.
Thank you very much. Getting families involved is so important. Good luck to you.
You have a tough job with so many families that have working parents in this day and age! I hope you are able to make an impact!
What a great job! Wish you all the best!
My #SchoolYearResolution this year is to approach each of my students with deep retrospective thought to ensure the appropriate path is chosen to support their needs every step of the way as they pave their way to educational success! I love my little ones and want to be able to support them and their families as they learn and grow.
Yes, I love my little ones as well. Have a wonderful school year.
Daily reflection is great to help achieve this goal!
Spending time with them as they play, use manipulatives or read are also helpful in gaining a deeper insight into their social/emotional needs and their learning styles. Hope you are successful!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to let go of the little things. I am going to be more present and appreciate what is going on now.
Yes, letting go of little things is a lifelong learning process. Have a great school year.
It’s all about the students!
Being present is powerful…and very calming and relaxing!
Prioritize! Don’t sweat the small stuff! Once you have that down you can enjoy your students for who they are! I hope you are able to accomplish your goal!
My school resolution for 2015-16 is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for all my students. May God give me guidance throughout the school year to be the best teacher that will provide hands-on learning so all my students can succeed now and in their future endeavors.
So beautifully said. I feel the same way. God bless you and your endeavors.
I wish you great success!
The foundations you build through the use of hands on learning will be life changers for those who struggle with understanding the concepts! I hope you are successful!
#schoolyearresolution: My school year resolution is to incorporate technology into my classroom through Ipad minis. Each student will be receiving one this year and I want to make the most of this amazing technology! I cannot wait to get started!
I’m sure it will be successful because your words tell me that you are excited about technology.
So cool! We’re all jealous!
Most Excellent! I hope you are able to broaden your students understandings and visit places many only dream of!
I plan to make this new school year a success by sharing more hugs and more smiles to students and families. I plan to work with students staff and visitors to ensure the best quality of customer service. I plan to make sure the drivers are greeted and appreciated as they load and unload our precious cargo to school. I plan to make everyday count by getting to know students by their first name and knowing something good about them.
“Peace begins with a smile.” By Mother Teresa. Have a great school year.
All of that makes such a different – those little things go along way in making or breaking a person’s day!
Nothing warms a heart more than a student who responds to a greeting or a good morning! Thanks for teaching your students to appreciate those that help them!
My school year resolution is simply to constantly remind each student that they are important, loved, and respected. I want every child to know they are more to me than just a test score, and I value each one of them for their uniqueness and trust in me. I want to encourage each student to strive to reach all of their academic, social, and personal goals. #SchoolYearResolution
Yes, we must always focus on letting the students know that they are loved and that they are important.
You go! Wish you great success!
You will make a large impact in their lives!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to be focused on providing more positive feedback to all of my students. To also strive to find more ways to incorporate hands on activities for my students. I’m also striving to have more balance this year with my school and life.
Yes, I don’t think the students hear us unless we have a lot of positivity infused into our words.
Students need positive feed back! They have so much unseen negativity in their day! Hope you are successful!
Balance is key! Healthy teacher means healthy classroom environment and great learning!
This is great I am going to add to my list and not stay up late working this year getting things done ahead of time. Tired teacher is a cranky one! So, I will be a rested teacher this year.
This year I will be integrating art into my lessons to offer my 7th grade students’ a different view on the content of history as a teaching strategy. This self-reflection has prompted me to think differently regarding engaging my student’s. Therefore art will be used in providing choice to student’s. This choice in reflection would improve my student’s academic performance over time by allowing them to use their multiple intelligence in the form of art. In the end as I begin the academic year my students’ overall success is at the forefront of my teaching practice. Inasmuch, I will use art, which is also therapeutic and can be used as a form of expression through active participation, which is crucial for the 21st century student!
Art is being cut back so much and schools. Good for you on infusing it into your students. Have a great school year.
Art is therapy and oh so much fun!
Those 7th graders can be so creative! I hope this works well for you!
I think that’s a great idea. You could even go a step further to incorporate as many of the different multiple intelligences as you can, so that the students can use and develop their strengths in your classroom.
This school year, my resolution is to educate with compassion. I want to be focused on my students and their needs as people. Yes, I need to teach all my content. But, I want to remember that I have the time to stop and offer compassion to my students. I don’t know what each child may be facing in their personal lives. I want to make my class a safe place for them. And, I want to be supportive of each and every student.
I think your goal is so very important. Thank you for making that commitment, and good luck!
By showing compassion you will be teaching compassion which is so important.
I hope you start a cascade! You emulate compassion and then your students will start showing that same compassion to each other in class and beyond!
Yes, this is great we sometimes forget about our students have so much to offer outside of academic learning. Many times children teach us and we don’t even realize.
A neat thing I’ve done with my kids is at the beginning of the year I ask their parents to do some homework for me – I ask them to tell me all about their child; to brag about their child. It’s great to read them and gives you a great idea of your students and reminds you that your students are someones pride and joy!
My school year resolution is to create an environment where both teachers and students view themselves as learners!
You sound like a fantastic teacher, who models learning yourself.
You are the greatest example! Lead on!
That’s a good one! And even where the teachers see that they can learn from their students!
My school year resolution is to slow down and instill the joy of learning in my students. To not get caught up in all the standards, but remember what it is like to be a kid in elementary school and make it a fun place students want to come to learn each day. And hopefully the joy of learning will extend for the rest of their lives.
Yes, we must appreciate the joy in learning.
We do have to use the standards as a directional tool! I agree there are ways to make learning fun and enjoyable! May you have endless creativity!
Yes, and if you’re having fun, they’re probably having fun!
I.D. your challenge. Breathe, Think, Leap!
My resolution is for my students to enthusiastically Leap into Learning
When the teachers model enthusiasm, the students can help do the same.
I like the thought of stopping and remembering your purpose as a teacher. So often that gets lost in the rhetoric.
Thinking is good! Being purposeful and planning is a good idea.
#SchoolYearResolution is to make my K-2 special education classroom a place where students grow, learn, and take risks to achieve their highest potential!
God made a special place in heaven for special-education teachers like you. God bless you and have a great school year.
You have an amazing job! I hope you are successful!
Helping students learn how to take risks is important!
This (my 29th) year, I’m going to do my BEST to make my goal something I’ve never tried before. After the first official back-to-school faculty meeting, I’m usually so stressed out (and many times annoyed) by all the new testing requirements, inevitable disappointing salary and benefits news from the union, updates from our resource officers (school police) warning us of the latest technology and cyber threats to protect ourselves and students from, unwelcome schedule/classroom/
admin/content changes, etc.,et.. Then, it usually turns out that many or most of the “gloom and doom” predictions turn out better than expected. This year, I’m going to try my best to remember this during and after that first faculty meeting and hope that doing so, will help me start the new year with the positive attitude and good spirits my incoming class deserves and too often doesn’t get from their overwhelmed teachers. I’m also going to see if I can get the admins on board with this idea as well, as they have a huge impact on the atmosphere the school starts and ends with. I’m hoping this plan will be successful and I’ll share it with my colleagues if it is! TS
This is so important. Have a good school year and good luck to you.
I hope you are able to create a positive change with the admin! 29 years is a long time, your perseverance is commendable!
I’d say staying positive is definitely important. No need to bring extra drama or stress to the classroom.
My #1 resolution for this school year is to take a few minutes each week to organize my materials so I have everything handy (and I know what I have) to create some awesome learning stations for my students.
Yes, organization is an area in which I am weak. Thank you for the reminder
This is a great idea! I think I will be joining you! Starting with the art cupboard! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like that little extra time will be well worth it for you! Good luck!
My New Year’s Resolution is to engage my students as much as possible using technology, art, music and manipulatives. This will have a positive impact on my students’ learning achievements!
I would say so! You sound like a very creative teacher.
I think you will have a great year of learning and be reaching the learning styles of all of your students!
Great idea! Using other modes of learning is always powerful!
My resolution is to understand my students needs and help them with their goals in a loving and patient way.
You sound very compassionate
Patience is important! My room is a no yelling zone! My students get enough of that at home.
Patience is important. Listening to them and letting them talk and explain themselves and their learning is so important.
This year my school year resolution is to try and instill a love for reading in each student I teach. When you read, you can go anywhere, be anything, and do anything. I don’t want them to just read, but LOVE to read.
Everything begins with a reading, so good luck to you!
Be the greatest reader! I read to and with my third graders still! In the beginning of the year, I avail books as a choice as they finish their work. Your enthusiasm will encourage them to read more!
And modeling is a great way to do that! Good luck!
This school year will be exciting for my students. We will embark into project based learning and I have so many ideas to help my kiddos navigate to find their own understanding and knowledge while having FUN! My goal is to give my students tools to be more independent and critical thinkers. I can’t wait to start!!!
Maria, I wish one of my children bring your class. You sound wonderful.
I hope you are successful! We need more independent workers and critical thinkers in the upper grades!
I think that’s great. The kids will love it!
My school year resolutions for this year are to implement a math workshop model in my 7th and 8th grade classrooms. My purpose is to make my math instruction student-driven, which will bring ownership to students for their learning as well as building strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. I am also planning on integrating more technology in my math instruction as quick formative assessments and student engagement. I can’t wait!
Dimitra you sound awesome!
Technology will make your formal assessment grading a breeze! You have an incredible job of schooling our future leadership!
Sounds like you have a great plan! Good luck!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to remember that kids come from all kinds of homes and for many of them, school is the safe place to be. When I am working with my students identified most “at risk”, I will remind myself they don’t all think, believe, experience the same way I did/do and I must meet them where they are coming from in helping them find success.
Perspective taking is so important, and you have hit the nail on the head with your goal. I wish you luck!
You sound like a very compassionate person. I think he will do just great!
Such an important aspect. Learning the uniqueness of each student to help them excel!
That’s a great thing to keep in perspective.
It takes extra special patience to meet the needs of students that come from troubled homes and create that safe place in the classroom. I hope you are very successful.
My #new year resolution is to find a positive every day and leave someone with a positive every day. The stress of teaching can easily get to us all, but one daily positive can turn it all around and help keep each other going! We do this because we love to and no other reason!
Yes, many positive things must happen during our school day and it all begins with us!
Sounds great! Keeping your head focused on the positive will start to become second nature and hopefully be contagious!
Something as simple as a smile in passing can be enough to turn it all around! Thanks for the reminder!
My resolution for the school year is to really incorporate more artistic opportunities for my students through my instruction. I hope that my students will have a greater appreciation for the arts as a result of the improvements in my instruction.
I love it when art is factored into the core curriculum. I have the best responses when I give a comprehension test that requires students to draw their answers! It gives my lower functioning students a chance to shine! I hope it is successful for you!
So many cutbacks in the arts. GOOD for you!
Creativity is a wonderful way for students to express their comprehension of many skills and concepts.
Yes, artichoke Tatian is being cut back in many schools so good for you for taking this initiative.
Art is so therapeutic and can help students really express themselves – sounds like a great plan!
My #School Year Resolution to balance the classroom atmosphere with academic/learning goals and the social/emotional health of my students. I want to relay the value and satisfaction of setting goals and working hard towards them and to also find joy in learning.
Yes we must have goals in order to achieve them. Good luck in your school year!
Setting goals is such a great skill to teach children. Good luck!
Boy, that balancing act can be tough sometimes with all of the personalities in class. I hope your goal setting is successful!
My school year resolution is to continue to push my students to excel and become leaders that know what is the right thing to do. I have been teaching many years (since two days after dirt was invented) and still can’t sleep the night before the first day of school. Every year before school starts, I think about
Being a leader means never grow tired of doing what is right!
That’s a great goal! I would ask my students at the end of the day – do you feel good about the choices you made today? You want to make choices that you can be proud of!
I love that phrase (since two days after dirt was invented)! You have been teaching along time. What strikes me is how much you care about your first day even now! I hope I have that same passion about my first days in years to come! Hope you have a great year!
My school year resolution is to continue to push my students to excel and become leaders that know what is the right thing to do. I have been teaching many years (since two days after dirt was invented) and still can’t sleep the night before the first day of school. Every year before school starts, I think about
My #schoolyearresolution is to teach 100% in the target language (Spanish) for all levels
Good luck to you! This is a very important area where we need work in our country.
Sounds like a great goal! Good luck!
iQue Bueno! Best of luck to you!!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to encourage my students to find ways to find their strength, use this as a focus for the education and strive to be the best they can be. I want them to understand that although there is a lot of competition in the world, the toughest competition they will face is their own goals and drive.
Yes, we must encourage them to find their strength by trying lots of different things!!
Yes, learning self-confidence and how to be their own cheerleader is quite a great lesson! Good luck!
Also self doubting can derail just as quickly as the competition. I hope you find ways to strengthen your students!
My resolution this year is to allow my students to have a more realistic view of learning. My goal is to get the community involve with my student’s learning. This will allow them to understand why they learning the content and how it will be used in their future.
Yes, it’s important to get the community involved and always have lots of guest speakers.
I think that’s great. Practical and real-life learning is powerful! Good luck!
To utilize the community in learning brilliant! I hope your students make connections that keep them focused on their future job goals!
This year I will set up and practice classroom procedures more thoroughly. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
Yes, doing it in advance is of benefit to the students
That is so true! A little extra work at the beginning pays off so much and makes a much better year in the long run!
I agree! We line up and reline up! I will leave 5-7 minutes early with the intention of this happening without being late all in order to get the point across. I hope you are successful!
My #school year resolution is to ensure that every child I teach feels special, confident, and loves music.
Music always adds so much!
Oh, music. It can be so calming and healing – it would be a wonderful thing for all children to learn to love!
Music is great for memorizing facts and steps for problems!
I want to make deeper connections with my students, as well as implement mindfulness and whole brain teaching techniques. I am hoping my enthusiasm for reading and learning will become infectious and motivate my students. Thank you for supporting students and teachers with your giveaway. Teachers spend more out-of-pocket money for our jobs than any profession! Thanks again!!
Deeper connections is another word for love.
Your children will definitely pick up on your enthusiasm! I wish you luck!
I hope you are able to influence your students to read lots of great books this year!
My school resolution for this year is to be better than last. I am a newer teacher and I continue to learn from others and from my students everyday. The kids I teach come from hardship backgrounds and when they enter my room, it’s as if they rely on me to give them what they may never have. Each year I get better at upholding this responsilbility and this year I want to be even better making a difference for them.
Learning from other teachers is a wonderful way to learn.
What you do is very hard and very rewarding!
The best teachers strive to be better than they were last year. They have the ability to keep learning fresh amidst adversity! I hope you succeed!
This year I resolve to help my students see the meaning and value in their math homework.
What a wonderful goal as so many students do not like math. Good luck to you and your school year.
Homework is a great way for students to learn responsibility and that practicing things makes them better at it!
I hope you are successful!
My 2015-2016 school year resolution is to prepare all of my 8th graders for high school and beyond!
To me, eighth grade is a tough class to teach. Good for you and good luck
Good luck! Giving them that extra push to make high school count is so important!
I hope you are able to impact your 8th graders so that they accomplish their goals!
My resolution this year is to give a little more love, be a little more understanding, and have a little more fun!
Our goal should always be to give more love
All great goals! Your kids will be thankful!
We all need more understanding! I hope you have the best year!
My #SchoolYearResolution is that my students will leave my classroom hearing the words, “You are important!”
And, you are loved!
Oh, such a good one! They each need to know that they each have individual gifts that they contribute for the good of the whole!
Wow, this is a powerful statement, especially for our struggling students!
My new school year resolution is to make sure that I stay on task with my students. To foster respect and communication… and “Never let them see me sweat”.
To foster respect will serve them until they’re dying day. Good luck to you
It’s actually okay for them to see you struggle through things a little – it’s a normal part of life and it’s important they understand that it’s okay to have to problem solve through things on the spot. And for them to respect you, remember, you just have to respect them! Modeling is powerful!
The older you get the “sweat” just happens! I have learned to get respect you have to give it as well!
My #School year Resolution is use inquiry based science to instill a lifelong love of learning in my students.
God made a special place in heaven for science teachers! Have a great year.
Oh, I love that. I had some amazing science teachers in school which made such an impact on my life – being interested in science and the world around you is fun and important!
All students love science! Your enthusiasm makes it that much more interesting! Have a great year!
you’re a remarkable teacher!
It sounds like you have a very interesting year ahead, and you are up to the challenge.
Third grade is a wonderful year. It was my favorite year in school and my favorite year to teach! It seems to be a defining year for many students – I hope you make a wonderful impact on your students!
My #SchoolYearResolution is make sure each and everyone of my students feels loved by me.
Love is something that when you give it away it comes back to you.
Making your kids feel loved and important is a wonderful goal. I wish you luck!
The greatest impact you can make in the life a student is to show that you love them, even the strange, quirky, shy, and awkward ones!
My #schoolyearresolution is to make sure each and everyone of my students feels loved by me.
My #schoolyearresolution is to make sure each and everyone of my students feels loved by me.
My #ScoolYearResolution is to have faith in myself to provide guidance to my students and staff in the areas that are my strength, and listen carefully in areas that are not.
I like the fact that you want to listen! We have lost that as a society. I was always taught that listen creates the word Silent and they work together to be effective! Have a great year!!
Excellent!
I always need to listen better!
I agree that in order to be successful, we must first have faith in ourselves. I also need to work at this.
Yes, listening is so important. In all areas of teachers lives.
Self confidence is important because students feel secure in what they are learning when the teacher is a good role model and displays integrity and subject knowledge.
Listening is so important! Being able to admit you don’t have all the answers and showing your process in getting those answers goes a long way towards developing trust and respect!
This school year, my #1 resolution is to make sure all of my music students have the music and materials they need for my classes. I want to provide a creative, nurturing environment where their musical creativity can flourish.
My class motto is “Be an innovator, not an imitator”. My dream is to be able to give my students the chance and tools to be musical pioneers.
The gift card will go a long way towards making that happen. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.
Children learn better with music, so good luck to you this school year
I love your motto! I hope you have a great year!
Music aids all of the other subjects! I hope you are successful!
#SchoolYearResolution is to create an awesome co teaching classroom for my students and meet the needs of all learners this school year. 2nd grade rocks!!!!
Yes, love my second graders !!
Co-teaching means your students will get the best of both or you! What an impact you will make this year!
My school year resolution is to make math less confusing for my students. For most of my high school students, math is the one subject they just don’t understand: “How did letters get into math?” Through my guidance and well-thought out activities, I hope to make math make sense to them this year!
you’re a splendid teacher to do just that!
yeah, letting them have fun in doing math – splendid!
Wonderful!!
I hope you are successful!
My new year’s resolution is to provide the best guidance, support, encouragement, and enthusiasm, to all my students, as I take them for a ride of their lifetime with reading and writing!
The S & S Gift Card would be a tremendous help in helping obtain the much necessary materials needed in the classroom that our Title 1 school is unable to fund.

I’ve been a teacher for 21 years and I still struggle with this!
I’ve been teaching for 19 years and organization can be pretty difficult.
Good luck! It really does help keep you on track, plus it is a great model for students.
I struggle with this as well, but have found priority tubs helped me last year! I place things in small tubs according to what needs done today, soon, and by the end of the week. It made me feel more in control!
Me, too! I have moved my in/out boxes to another location as well as my paper organizer. We will see if this helps! Have a great year!
That’s a good one! I’m with you 🙂 You can do it!
Lead by example! Students will display those behaviors they learn from adults.
I resolve to make each of my students feel special & loved & treat them with the utmost respect. By touching the lives of my students, their future & the world will be changed forever!
Yes, the future is in our hands!
Respect! To get it you have to give it. So many students don’t understand what that is! I hope you are successful with this! You could be a life changer for them!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to be positive in the face of all the challenges you list in your introduction plus all the others that come our way. I’m also striving for work/life balance this year.
The work/life balance is always so tricky….
Our profession can be all consuming, if you let it! Obtaining a balance is very wise!

To start my 13th year as an intervention specialist my resolution is this: To be patient even during the stressful times and to find an activity that renews my energy level so I am ready to give it my all the next day at school.
Speaking from the point of a PE teacher, I hope that stress reliever is exercise!!! 🙂
your job is such a noble one especially so you’re dealing with children having special needs.
To be patient even during the stressful times…We all need to remember this!

I’m going to have to read more about this!
Whole Brain Teaching- I like rule #5! have a great year!
My school year resolution is to spend more time building true relationships with my students. We work hard and play hard in the classroom but we also have lives outside of school. I am making it my personal goal to attend as many soccer games, birthday parties, and all of those extracurricular activities that my students invite me to. We need to help make a difference both in and out of school!
I am one who attends the sporting events of my students! It is the best way to make them feel special and make a connection that every day in the classroom cannot!
This is a good reminder for me! Thank u!

What a beautiful saying!
I needed this! Thanks for sharing!
School will be beginning in less than a month and my #SchoolYearResolution for the school is to be able to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the almost 80% Free/Reduced lunch families in the school. They often purchase things that are cheap because that is all they can afford! I would love to start up a fruit/vegetable initiative within the community to help the school’s families out! Any amount of money would get me started!!! Thanks for offering this to teachers! All of us have a HUGE heart and want to do so many things but our budget does not allow it!

Yes, we teachers spend a lot of our own $$ don’t we?!

Seniors need this more than ever!
My goal is to keep my students as active as possible and to get our staff in on the action to show kids that fitness is a life long event. We have a school wide Turkey Trot and Wildcat Walk that involve our whole school.
Two good events it sounds like!
The activity helps keep students alert and minds ready for learning!

Organization is important!
This year my resolution is to spread JOY daily! One way I plan to do this is by making a minimum of ten #GoodCallsHome per week. As an Assistant Principal I am often making calls for other reasons, but I want to recognize the awesomeness as well!
You will be so loved !
You will catch your parent off guard with a positive call home! you will be happier, too! Whishing you the best!
#SchoolYearResolution – to provide my students with an engaging curriculum that motivates the most hard core procrastinator with the curiosity to take a peek, get involved in their own learning and realize that learning can be fun in the social environment presented in the middle school classroom.
Thank you for teaching middle school! That’s not easy.
Yes, Middle schoolers can be hard, core procrastinators! I hope you find those zingers that make curriculum more interesting and inspire them to open their books!
My resolution for this year is to not just hear my kiddos, but to really listen.
Listening in all areas of my life as well!
Look them in the eye!
My #SchoolYearResolution is improve my high school library program and setting. I am in a building that was built in 1981 and has had very little improvement. I would like to update to a 21st Century Library Learning Commons atmosphere.
Wow! Good luck
With that!
I hope you are successful in raising support to accomplish this!
My #SCHOOLYEARRESOLUTION is to smile and be positive each day! Also, to touch one student a day, so that they feel welcomed in my class.
Peace begins with a smile…. By mother teresa
Connections are built over time!
I teach moderately to severely handicapped students. My #SchoolYearResolution is to increase communication skills for all my students. This will take a variety of forms and help from all my assistants. We will need to create multiple daily opportunities for students to use their expressive skills. My secondary goal is for my students to enjoy school and increase their opportunities to make choices for themselves. Too many of my students have too much done for them instead of learning to do things for themselves.
Ann, God bless you … U r a wonderful person!
I hope you and your team are successful!
My school year resolution is to learn Spanish so I can communicate with some of the parents better.
That is a wonderful goal!
They will be very appreciative of your efforts!
My school year resolution is to have better communication with families. At a class this summer I learned of a free app called Remind 101 that gives free text messages to parents and students without revealing phone numbers. Many teachers already use it. It can be used for homework, general info ,etc. I’m going to give it a whirl.
that sounds like a great app!
What a great tool!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to shut the door on all those people who have no earthly idea what it takes to reach students today in a classroom and focus on what’s important – building a relationship with each student so that I can do my job.
Yes, love always wins!
Be the light that lights the way! Many of your colleagues may need someone to show them how to reach students!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to meet children where they are and help them reach there full potential.
Yes, we have to meet them where they are!
With love and patience!
My resolution is to find creative ways to celebrate more student achievements, no matter how small, more frequently. We typically have a nice award ceremony at the end of every year for our band program, but I want to work to honor hard work, good citizenship, and beautiful musicianship on a daily basis.
What a beautiful goal!
You will strengthen your band by doing so!
I want to incorporate more activities so kids can be more active in my classroom. A controlled chaos of learning is what I aim for!
As a Pe teacher, I love this!
Organization is key!
My resolution is to flip the classroom this year and more actively engage nursing students in a collegial, mentoring, respectful relationship.
Good luck!
You will train some great nurses by doing so!
My resolution is to have my students create INB (Interacstive notebooks) that include lesson notes and foldables that are easy to use and a great study guide prior to assessments! It’s more exciting than just taking notes and definitely interactive! Once I get these started, I can incorporate them into our 1-1 device program that starts in January! Imagine the whole thing on the internet at their fingers in an instant!
Looks like you have a great school year ahead!
Your students will love being a part of the set up! They will be on board and actually use what they have created!
My school year resolution is to positively impact the lives of my students and their families.
That positivity is so important!
Your parents will be happy if you positively deal with their children!
I will make this year my best year yet! I resolve to stress less, teach with passion and always put my students needs first. They deserve it! I will help dreams come true and not be the killer of dreams! I will not get overwhelmed with paperwork and lose my focus. I will enter this school year with GREAT EXPECTATIONS!
Yes, we help dreams come true!
Taking care of yourself and not stressing are key to accomplishing all the rest!
My school year resolution is to provide a hands on and interactive reading library for my students. All students deserve challenging and great books to promote reading and learning.
David, your students are lucky to have you!
I have one!! To keep it within my budget, I spent time going to our local library’s book sales and an occasional garage sale! My former students caught on and donated their books to my class, too! Best of Luck to you!
In this state they can focus their eyes on the future, expectant of new challenges, and simply view problems as “solutions in disguise.” This is my #SchoolYearResolution
Wow! So well said!
My goal this year is too be more flexible. Too rigid is a recipe for frustration!!
Yes! Flexibility!!!
What great and inspiring resutions posted here. For the 2015-2016 scho year I resolve to be present in my students learning moments. I resolve to connect and collaborate with each one of them.

Yes, fitness should always be fun!
GoNoodle Brain Breaks are awesome!
Yes! Love go noodle!
An ongoing goal for me too!!
Yes fitness should be fun! My students love exercising especially when it is fun.
My school did adventures to fitness and it was really cool. The kids were working out and learning about different countries, animals, etc. It was a cool program.
That sounds really good, I’ll have to pass that info to our PE teachers!
We use the Multiple Intelligences within our school and this is a great way to keep the students active without it being labeled as exercise. The kids love the movement and they don’t even know it counts as exercise!!
That’s the only way I will exercise! Someone has to trick me into it! 🙂
Hahaha! If you will try the FitBit it will really WORK!!! Love mine. Have a good school year!
My school year resolution is to make at least one student smile each day.
Peace begins with a smile…. By mother teresa
My #School Year Resolution is to make sure that each of my students is valued for the talent that he or she possesses.
Yes, knowing they are valued is key!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to send my students out ready to tackle the environmental challenges of our world so that my own children will benefit from their successes.
That is so noble. You sound like a wonderful teacher.
Specific but interesting. Thinking outside the box is great!!
That is a great goal!
Love to learn! My ultimate goal is to see them just love learning, whatever that looks like to them!
Yes, LOVE learning is the key!
Kids love fun activities!!
Instilling the love of learning is the ultimate goal.
I applaud you for understanding that learning is different for ALL students!!
We are a team. We all win when we work together.
Yes! Teamwork!
Teamwork rocks!
There is no “I” in “team!”
A great way to keep them all tuned in!!
I love the team theme. It works so well with students!
To let my students know that failure isn’t an option; it’s a requirement. They have to realize that it’s okay to fail, and that often times, from failure comes reflection and ultimately success.
Yes! Failure is not an option!
A good way to make them overall stronger!!
Well said! It is so important students know that they can learn so much when things don’t go exactly as planned.
I have always taught my students that for each mistake we make, it is an opportunity to learn. I model how my daily mistakes, which the kids find funny, help me learn something new each and every day!
To be there for my children and parents so they know that I am here for them and that I will do my best to encourage them. I do Family Childcare so I don’t know if I can enter your contest. Susan
You sound like a dedicated and wonderful person!
It’s good to encourage students and parents. Everyone needs a little encouragement sometimes.
The connection between home and school is so important.
Last year I was out until the last month of school due to illness. My goal this year is to get my perfect attendance record back and be more organized.
I have a feeling you will!
Frustrating when things don’t go your way. Good luck!! Glad you’re better!
It takes hard work to stay organized, but you can do it!
Stay healthy!!

My #SchoolYearResolution is to stay organized and not have piles needing to be filed!
Year by year this is my resolution….my desk it topped with papers right now!
Me too!!
That is a great goal.
My resolution as a classroom teacher is to teach my students the skills they need to be able to learn about anything that they are interested in; and to give them meaningful, hands-on experiences that make learning fun. My resolution as the president of my school’s PTO is to expand the involvement of the school community by organizing several family event nights for families to come together and experience learning together.
The family night events are great opportunities to connect parents with teachers so that their child benefits. I loved the events at my son’s school last year.
Yes, family nights are the BEST!!
I love the hands-on component you mentioned as well as the family nights.
My resolution as a classroom teacher is to give students the skills they need to be able to learn about anything they are interested in; and to allow them many hands-on experiences to make learning fun, and instill a life long love for learning. My resolution as president of my school’s PTO for this year is to continue to expand our PTO’s involvement in the school community and the impact that it can have on student’s learning. This year I plan to organize and host several family night events like Family Math Night, Science Nights and more.
THANK YOU for volunteering to be president of the PTA. So many people don’t want to do that and you stepped up!
Parental involvement is so important!
As a Physical Education Teacher my #SchoolYearRevolution is to promote active and healthy living!
Active and healthy living is a great goal for PE!
What are some examples?
Such am important component to the students’ lives.
I am returning back to school after battling a bout with cancer. We are so privileged to be able to guide and teach students to love learning. I feel as though I am a new teacher and ready to implement strategies that I have read about the last few months. Interactive reading, CLOSE reading, etc. enjoy each day!
Wow! My sister is going through this right now and it is rough. Congratulations for making it through and continuing on in your life’s work!
That is a wonderful testimony!
Feel well and enjoy the school year!!
I, along with other members of my family, have been dealing with serious illnesses this past year as well. I wish you all the best as you begin this new school year.
My #SchoolYearResolution is to be there for my students and to check up on them when they are having trouble. I will also make myself more available to them after school and during lunch hours. I teach 5th grade Math.
That is unselfish of you to make yourself available at lunch.
I am returning to teach fifth grade math and science after two years in fourth. Hope you have a good year.
Christina, good luck to you in your school year. These are not easy subjects to teach!
My #SchoolYearResolution for the year is for myself and my students to learn something new everyday. Simple but meaningful keeps me learning and listening and them as well. Exit Pass every day will be “what is one new thing you learned today?”
Great idea!!!
I love exit tickets and reflections. They are a great way to get a picture of students’ learning.
I love this! We can all learn something new each day.
My #SchoolYearResolution is to teach my K-5 moderately disabled special needs students daily living skills that they can use to feel independent. Many special needs kids are unable to perform basic skills for themselves, but I want to change that for my kiddos. They should feel proud of themselves for every small accomplishment and those small successes will turn in to bigger ones as they continue to grow and learn.
What a WONDERFUL goal! Good luck this year!
I agree with your resolution. Great choice!
Great philosophy. Hope you have a great year!
Good luck, Dawn, empowering your students!
My #SchoolYearResolution.is to incorporate interactive notebooks into my social studies curriculum. I did one for our English curriculum, and the students loved it. I am excited to get stared on this.
Good for you for getting on board with technology!
That is a great idea. I did the interactive notebook for mathematics and the students really enjoyed it.
Interactive notebooks are great and the students really respond to using them.
My #schoolyearresolution is to step away from Negative Nellies and focus on the positive. Yes, there is a lot of testing! But it’s not going to change. I can complain or just do it. Yes, we are working hard. But, I didn’t get into education expecting to by a mansion on the hill or a yacht. I did it because I LOVE teaching and working with kids. I wanted to make a difference.
Yes, focusing on the positive is the only way!
Yes, I try to avoid the drama.
Positive attitudes are so important. Have a great year =)
Positive attitude makes all the difference! Good for you!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to teach organization, manners and working well with others.

My #SchoolYearResolution is go get my students to realize how they will use Algebra in their life.
You sound like a WONDERFUL teacher!
What grade do you teach?
I teach 3k – 5th PE!
Real-life application is very helpful for students.
This is important! I would have really appreciated learning how I would use algebra in real life when I was in high school and struggled with it.
My #SchoolYearResolution is that every child feels loved and know they are accepted for who they are. I work with very low income children, who have parents that do not show unconditional love.
God bless you and thank you for all you do. My students are not like this…most are very well cared for. THANK YOU for all you do for these children!
This is a very honorable goal.
This is so important! Your children will always remember you for loving them and showing them how much you care.
Be enthusiastic every day!
Yes, enthusiasm is contagious!
That will definitely help the students!
Love it! Your kids will be enthusiastic as well.
My #SchoolYearResolution this year is to have the children engaged in music. This would be a new program for the school this year and would so much love for them to learn how to play the piano, violin and other instruments of their choice. I love the fact that through music, you can learn alot and also encourage the kids with changing rotations quicker through playing some wonderful christian music. I believe that also music enhances critical thinking and the kids can really get to doing work and we all work as a team. I hope that everyone’s School Year Resolution gets answered!!
Music, music and more music! Kids love it and LEARN from it! Good luck to you!
Music is so important and a great resource that does not get utilized enough. Great goal!
This year: Less teacher-talk and more student-to-student learning.

I agree, reading makes a ready person and it takes to many different places and learn many things. Reading is awesome!!
Yes, achieving the goal of a “love of reading” is very noble! Good luck!
Installing the love of reading is a great goal that will impact students for the rest of their educational careers and lives.
This is so important! I love to read and hope to bring that love to my students as well. I hope my own children’s teachers do the same.
My #SchoolYearResolution is to get my students moving as soon as they walk in the door and a morning walking club.
Yes, moving as they come in is a great idea!
I love this idea!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to make my students understand how learning is a process and showing and sharing what you have learned along the way is just as important as the final product.
Excellent idea!
Agree, sometimes the final product is not what you expect but is a new invention!
Love this concept!
Yes, it’s always a process…nothing comes easy!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to learn as much from my students and colleagues as they learn from me! Looking forward to a wonderful school year!
Kristin, you are so wise!
Lifelong learning!

So beautifully said!
That is wonderfully said! It is good to create a safe and fun environment
Great goals that will have a big impact on students.

LOVE all of these games!
My #NewYearsResolution is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. The students at my elementary school would benefit greatly from this opportunity, thanks for being such a great company and giving back to your community.
Ethan, I concur with everything you said!
My #SchoolYearResolution will include trying out what I learned this summer in an iPad class. We will use Padlet, Wonderopolis, Kidsblog, kids Rex, to start off with. Here we go!
Wonderful idea! Good luck with the technology!
It’s great that you could take this class. There are so many great educational apps for Ipads
Seeking to utilize more creative ways in lesson plans to bring the Biblical texts to life and encourage attendance. My goal is for children to not only learn but enjoy what they are learning. Engaging their creative side makes it personal and affirming to each student and uplifts us all.
Yes, bringing biblical texts to life should be a part of our minute by minute activities!
I agree with you. Children are so creative and bringing out their creative side does make it personal and also each child can share and learn from one another.
“Creativity” is the key….we are always striving for that as teachers!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to incorporate as much hands-on learning and discovery as possible for my 5th graders.
I also learn best by hands on, and I am in my 50’s!

This would be such a great skill to have as a teacher!
My resolution is to make my classroom welcoming & to attain materials that spark interest & integrate all learning styles. I learn so much from my students every year, because their excitement over a topic is beyond contagious. I also aim to never neglect those teachable moments & use the objects at hand to make a concept truly stick. I would love more hands on science kits & technological integration.
What a wonderful thing to strive for!
I am looking for some cool new hands on technology applications as well! Good luck.
It’s so important to learn your student’s strengths and then teach to those strengths.
That is great!! Each student has a learning style that is unique and that is also a great thing!
Attaining materials that are used to teach to students of all levels is expensive! Good luck with you goal. You sound like a great teacher!
#SchoolYearResolution My School Year Resolution is to go to Twitter often and learn from some of the most respected PE teachers on the planet. I have just joined Twitter and have already learned some things, so I want to continue and get more familiar with Twitter, to the benefit of my students!
This isn’t something I have tried, but yeah! It makes sense. I think I will check it out as well. Thanks
Many parents have a twitter account and it can be used to send reminders to parents about upcoming events, etc.
Didn’t even think of that! Thanks!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to have an organized classroom! As a new teacher I know it’s important to be able to use time wisely so having supplies ready and easily accessible for students will allow them to focus on the mathematics.
Yes, I can always be more organized as well! Good luck in the school year!
Now the trick is to find cheaper ways to be organized. I have bought so many good organizers but have payed a pretty penny
Many of us struggle with organization. Best of luck to you!
My #SchoolYearResolution is to facilitate a culture of critical thinkers in my classroom. My goal is to start Day One!
I would love for you to name one tool you are going to do to acheive this!
I hope you are effective!
my #SchoolYearResolution is to learn more of the Italian language of my students as it will be easier to teach my elementary students if I can explain what to do until they have a better grasp on the complexities of the English Language. I have been an ESL teacher now just over one year, CELTA certified however I was a teacher in my home successfully raised 5 children two of which were home schooled and dyslexic. Because I too am learning a new language I can relate the challenges and frustrations of my students as they grasp grammar rules and sentence structure differences. I really enjoy empowering my students so my career is one I will continue to learn about and develop in my own world!
You sound like a gifted teacher……very thoughtful. Good luck in your school year!
Wow, to have the time to learn a new language! I hope you are very successful!
My # school year resolution is to teach and provide all students with a variety of physical education movement, creativity and physical activity that promotes life long fitness through adulthood. With this great opportunity from S&S this will help us to provide better equipment, new games, and equipment that can be shared for all of our students. Cannot wait to begin the new school year!!
You sound like a wonderful teacher!
Yes! S &S has such great physical education equipment
I love you commitment to PE!

There is nothing that can be taught without students knowing that they MATTER to us teachers!
Yes, each student is unique and are important. We can all help each other. Have a great school year!!
When kids know they matter, they cry when they can’t go to school!
My #SchoolYearResolution for this year is to get my students thinking, tinkering, doing, and moving. My students are bright and great users of tools and technology, but this year I want them to become critical thinkers and creators. With this wonderful offer, it will help me to fund our tinkering/maker spaces in my library and help my students explore their creativity. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
Critical thinking is of utmost importance in PE! Good for you!
Tinkering is very important! We don’t do enough of this! We often don’t have the time for it!
The school year starts soon and my resolution is to make available all possible library services I can make to the children. As the Children’s Director of a small town library, I try to work closely with the teachers of the 3 schools in the system so that they know the services available to their students and the resources available to them as well. We try very hard to create and maintain a love of reading!
My grandson is in 2nd grade and he learned to read in 1st and he LOVES the library and the motivations they provide him! He lives in Frisco, TX.
Thank you for making that commitment. Access to reading material is the key to expanding our horizons.
You are a blessing to your teachers!! I wish we had someone like you in our libraries!
My students deserve this…they out achieve what their situation dictates. Diamond on the rough does not say enough about these children despite their location, their overall socioeconomic status, and their lack of the tools they need for the education they deserve they still shine. These kids make me smile everyday and deserve only great things to come their way.
Hello Nicole! Thank you for everything you do for your students each day! Please tell us your #SchoolYearResolution so we can enter your name in the drawing!
You sound like a loving teacher!
Diamond on the rough does not say enough about these children! As teachers, we have an amazing job of polishing each “stone” by the way we nurture their learning environment!
Children, Art and Music are my life! However, money isn’t! Thereby, I need supplies for our Art Classes and Musical programs. As most programs go, I don’t have much funding. Actually, I don’t have ANY funding and have to do it on my own or through donations.
I can really use this gift card to help teach my students in a more interesting, fun way!
Hi Diane! Thanks so much for everything you do for your school! Let us know your #SchoolYearResolution so we can enter your name in the drawing!
I love your statement, “Children, Art and Music” are my life! Good luck!
I think it is awesome that you teach Art and Music. So many schools do not have these programs!
