There has been a lot of negativity in the press and within the education industry surrounding teachers, their abilities, and the standards that have been set by those who don’t understand what it really takes to educate children. Quite often, the expectations and standards that are set for educators come from those who have never taught a class or created a lesson plan.

At S&S we know you’re exhausted! It’s hard to put your entire heart, mind and life into your profession because you truly love what you do, just to continue to hear that it is not always enough.

Teachers also serve as counselors, entertainers, role models, and social workers. You’re not only charged with teaching material to your students, but also with creating an interest in and excitement for math, literature, history, science, physical education, music and more.

My goal this year is too be more flexible. Too rigid is a recipe for frustration!!Kymmberly Mann
As a new teacher, I have many teaching resolutions that I would like to pursue; however, there is one I feel extremely passionate about: Allowing students to embrace their own learning. I feel that 21st century learning is active and engages students at all levels of education. I hope to help my students to discover their life’s purpose, their gifts, and the shape of their intelligence. I want to guide them to strive for success in this fast-paced and rapidly changing world in which they live. When they internalize their purpose it ignites choice, passion, motivation, direction, and will; the perfect conditions for success. In this state they can focus their eyes on the future, expectant of new challenges, and simply view problems as resolutions in disguise. This is my #SchoolYearResolutionKathy Fields
My #SchoolYearResolution is to remember that kids come from all kinds of homes and for many of them, school is the safe place to be.  When I am working with my students identified most at risk, I will remind myself they don’t all think, believe, experience the same way I did/do and I must meet them where they are coming from in helping them find success.Rachel Seibert
My #SchoolYearResolution is to find, borrow, buy, loan and get novels for my students at their individual reading level. I teach at one of the only public all-girls schools in our state and my classes consist of a huge range of reading levels. Last year I had one class with students reading as low as on a second grade level to as high as a tenth grade level, all in one sixth grade classroom!  With such a wide reading range I have found literature circles to be the most effective teaching strategy to meet each girl at her level, while still challenging her to excell. However, with over 100 students and all different lexile levels of reading it was literally impossible for me to find the books in the genre that I needed. For example, last year I wanted to do a literature circle unit focused on nonfiction novels of the Civil Rights Movement but I could not find books at the low reading levels that I needed! I ended up going to the public library at least one to two times a week trying to pick up novels, return and renew novels that I needed. If I could just own copies of the books that I needed I would be able to better focus my time on my girls, grading their work and designing lessons to extend their learning in each of their books. I know it sounds strange in the year 2015 with all of the technology that we have to be asking for novels but it is my #SchoolYearResolution!  Some of my students come from extremely rough home lives, some of my students are refugees, some of my students are learning English as a Second Language and some of my students have support at home. As a teacher to all of them I feel that every young girl deserves a book that will challenge  her, inspire her, get her excited about reading and at the same time not overwhelm her! It is possible!  The books are written I just need them in my classroom!  Thank you for your consideration!

  1. Hello, I am the Director for an after-school enrichment program. I am dedicated to making a difference in my kids lives. I have so many youth in my program that struggle each day not with school work but with “home” work. These kids come to me with problems no child should even know about let alone have to deal with.
My School Year Resolution – learn to teach my kids how to protect themselves from the world they are living in. Teach them that they don’t have to stay where they are, that they can grow and move forward. That they are not destined to be street thugs and thots. My kids deserve better but they are given the worst of every thing. From dysfunctional family life to bullying in school from other kids and teachers too. I fight everyday to lift my kids up to the King and Queen status they deserve.
My School Year Resolution – protect and guide my kids, survive to keep them going strong.

  3. As a traveling homebound teacher of medically fragile, sick, and disabled students, I am always challenged with finding work to stimulate my students. They are all ages and have varying abilities. IPADS provide entertaining lessons and stories, but I would like to share more tangible materials to use with these students. Books for all ages, flash cards, white boards and markers, music, play doh, chalk, bubbles, and many other materials help stimulate their learning as well as making learning fun. These students LOVE new ideas and often times it falls on the tachers to supply these extra supplies. Any help given would be a blessing.

  4. My resolution is to increase the level of higher order thinking opportunities that my students are given in each lesson. I want to grow thinkers and lovers of learning. #SchoolYearResolution

  5. My resolution, this year, is to have my students more engaged by providing more interesting and interactive lessons.

  6. My new school year resolution is to bring the great technology from my summer JSTI camp into the classroom. I built a 3D printer this summer and was able to learn how to create 3D projects and print them, along with learning how to make adjustments when needed to the printer. My students have just started school this past Tuesday and can’t wait to begin!!

  7. My resolution is to motivate my students to do well in their other subjects through the world of travel and tourism; and let them know that there is a whole world ready to be explored outside the rural community that they live in and that high school is just a small stepping stone to making many happy memories that will last a lifetime.

  8. My New School Years Resolution is to: BE my best for each of my students.BE a good team leader and build love for each other. I want to BE patient, BE kind, BE a good listener, BE prepared, and BE THERE for all of my children. I want to help my students to BE the best that they can possibly be. BE ready to learn, BE kind to themselves and their classmates, BE responsible for their actions and their learning, BE respectful team mates to their classmates. BE the best that they can BE by sharing love and understanding, compassion and friendship throughout our year together.

  9. #SchoolYearResolution I want to engage my students in such a way as they will desire to become responsible participants in our society through volunteering, voting, and becoming involved in government.

    • Yes! Today is the first day of school and I have to say I was here very late last night!!! But it DID get done! Have a great school year!

    • I tend to start something and then go to the next thing and pretty soon I have 5 things that I am working on at the same time.

      • There are times when I know what it feels like to be easily distracted. I too start one thing, see something else and then realize that I need to go back and finish what I began in the beginning! I hope you have a wonderful school year.

  10. This school term, I am determine to have fun while engaging my students! I plan to LEARN with them. I want to put the “FUN” back into learning using the variety of tools (FREE I should ad) I have practiced with and learned during my summer professional development. I started flipping the classroom last school term and plan to continue this term with the 1:1 laptop initiative that will be implemented in my school district this fall. I have also been developing the course I teach online and will be incorporating blended learning. I am excited about meeting my students in a couple of weeks! Let the FUN begin!

  11. My School Year Resolution is To Be The Best I Can Be, So That My Students of Intellectual Disabilities Can Be The They Can Be. I Also Promise To Use Many More Resources That I Can Find and To Show My STUDENTS THAT THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. I say all this, BUT THE ONE THING I REALLY WANT IS TO FEEL LIKE WE MATTER TO, I SAY THIS BECAUSE I’M A TEACHER ASSISTANT WITH A BIG HEART!!!!

      • Teaching assistants are SOOO important! Work hard and have a great year. Your students and teachers could not make it through the day, let alone the year without you. I know, I was an aide, and am now the teacher with an amazing aide.

    • You will make life long impressions on these students even being a TA! They are lucky to have a person like you in their lives!!!

  12. This year is my LoveBugs 1 year sge goes into pre-school. This is all new to mommy so trying to make sure she gets everything she needs!!!! Supplies for school then supplies for daycare then supplies for home therapy sessions (she is Autistic, so she in 3 separate programs) mommy needs alot of supplies and soooooo not ready. This could help her alot, she so in need of everything. Would love to also be able to get her a tablet as her therapist say she loves it and it helps a lot!!! #SchoolYearResolution

  13. This school year, my resolution is to remember that every action is an expression of love or a call for love. I’ll remind myself of this when I begin to feel frustrated with their behaviors, and I will shower them with love.

  14. My “School Year Resolution” I will strive to connect with my students daily to help them achieve success and prepare for the future. I will support my students with disabilities to help make the classroom accessible for all students and to increase their skills.

    • You are among the few that truly go beyond the custodial staff and make your room accessible for students with disabilities! Doing this will help your connections with their parents.

  15. I will roll out of bed with a prayer on my lips and a song in my heart as I prepare to teach and be taught by the energetic, enlightened, excited children with whom I will have the pleasure of interacting. It will be my goal to keep that light in their eyes burning brightly throughout each day of the year so the song in their hearts will become more melodic and uplifting.

  16. My School Year Resolution is to:

    1) Relationally
LISTEN to and connect with my students (their well-being and needs) & their parents

    2) Adminstratively
    Stay organized

    3) Professionally
Be courageous and disciplined to grow in my own musical & teaching skills

  17. Days that feel like my pencils are not sharpened or my crayons not wrapped, will finally come to an end when the bell rings. Days where my balloons fly higher, and the markers flow with brilliant colors will linger in my smile as I close my classroom door. What will it be this day in the room?
I cannot control my days, but I can control my actions; therefore, I resolve to smile with each young one in my care every day as much as possible, because my smile might be the only one they see.

  18. #SCHOOLYEARRESOLUTION…to incorporate Project-Based Learning in my classroom and allow the students to fully explore, experiment, learn, and achieve in the world of which they are such a critical part. I want my students to discover that they are valuable and have the ability to change the world one thought, one idea, and one action at a time!

  19. My resolution for this year is to remain calm, and remember why I started teaching in the first place. I want to have a joyful year with the children!

  20. I will strive to listen and really hear what each student is telling me about themselves. I work in an urban setting where students are often exposed to a lot early. I would use the money for mental health tools that can be used to help students work on social skills, relationship skills and goal setting.

  21. My #SchoolYearResolution is to remain calm and respond in kindness to students no matter how frustrating a situation may be, and to provide strategies and tools to students (and myself) to prevent these situations.

  22. I teach student with intellectual disabilities. They have so many hurdles to overcome academically and functionally. My school year resolution is to teach the students that: “Today is a good day to have a good day” . . . period

    • #MySchoolYearResolution

This will be my second year teaching fourth grade social studies and I want to give my students the opportunity of virtual travels. We can go anywhere we want using technology. My resolution is to be more creative with global technology in the social studies classroom.

  23. My #School Year Resolution is to fully enjoy teaching what I learned (as I was teaching) last year. I previously taught mathematics for 24 years and was asked to teach 6th grade social studies. (the Middle East) With optimism, I Jumped in with both feet and made it through the year. Although there were struggles, I plan to return this year with hopes to enlighten my students with projects and activities that with bring better understanding and real life meaning to them.

  24. Teaching involves commitment, dedication, and a love and respect for the profession that goes beyond the reading, writing, testing and teaching subjects. I teach not for a moment but for a lifetime. In other words, I teach my students to live. Yes, I believe we must help them meet the basic needs to survive but also teach them to cope with everyday life.

      • To help them “cope” successfully, you have to help them know who they are, what their strengths and challenges are. However, before you can help them, you have to know who you are and where/how that intersects with who they are.

    • All of the guided practice of life skills you provide are invaluable! You are making such an impact! Have a great year!

  25. It takes the whole village to raise a child. Therefore, any type of discount, incentive, donation, gift or freebie is greatly appreciated, especially when a high percent of our students are receiving free and reduced lunch. We have dedicated and hard working parents trying to make ends meet, but their budgets are very limited. Also, we are striving to meet the academic, emotional, physical and technological needs of our students. Hope Mills Middle School’s theme is Diversity: Educate, Empower, Embrace (E3). Again, thanks for helping not only teachers but everyone who deserves a great opportunity to get an excellent education.

    • I really like the last of the E’s-Embrace! This is where we as teachers see the biggest growth in our students, when they embrace what they are taught! Good luck this year!

    • Yes, you are so right. I am very proud all my kids and their parents strive so hard everyday just to make a small difference in their lives.

  26. I pledge to keep myself healthy this year. When I am healthy, it is much easier to keep a positive learning environment for my students. All summer I have worked on this goal to prepare to return to school healthy and happy. Haim Ginnot’s quote has always been posted by my desk, but this year I strive to be healthier and happier in order to set a positive classroom environment.
“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.” Haim Ginnot

  27. This year, my resolution is to stay positive and focused. I will remember why I’m a teacher; to educate, prepare, engage, and inspire my students! 🙂 I will remember that I am a great teacher regardless of all of the negativity and pressures on the profession. I’ll put my students’ success first and have a positive, happy, fun year! 😀

    • YOU are a great teacher regardless of all of the negativity and pressures on the profession! I wanted to turn this around and affirm this statement for you! Thanks for posting! May this be a fabulous year for you!

  28. My resolution is to provide a safe haven for students to relax, feel free to express themselves and their opinions that matter to them and the world they will be shaping. They may not remember everything you teach them, but they will remember how you treat them. We don’t make a lot, but we have treasures in the faces of young adults that always come back to us. Time is money best spent. My resolution is to be fit, to make my coworkers smile, to inspire and perspire, to love a good book, to cry at a good movie, and to hug my wife and kids until they laughingly said, let go!

  29. I teach adult ESOL and work primarily with low level learners. My #SchoolYearResolution is to provide more focused reading and writing practice to help my adult learners achieve their goals. Also, I hope to incorporate more enjoyable computer-based activities into my lessons.

  30. My #SchoolYearResolution is to help EVERY student in my physical education classes discover fun ways to stay active for a lifetime! If I provide enough options, surely they’re going to find SOMETHING to enjoy!

  31. My new school year resolution is to create more moments for my students to shine. I want to highlight what makes each student special and unique. By allowing my students to shine when sharing their love of a subject or activity, I can encourage them to try and/or embrace someone else’s passion as well.

  33. My goal this year is to let my fun side show more frequently. Students will work harder for teachers who show they care about them. I want to mix in items that are of interest to their generation to help hook them into knowing the content I want them to learn. I look to incorporate more music, art, and hands-on projects to accomplish my goal.

    • Yes, we are doing “10 ways to praise” fun hand motions over the morning video announcments. Should be a great start to the day!

      • Michelle, I totally agree that students will work harder when they know you care. Being yourself and incorporating your sense of humor into lessons is a great way to help students remember what you’re teaching!

    • I’ve found that once I set a strong and healthy classroom environment, the fun comes naturally! Good luck. A great song is the 50 Nifty United States – did it every day with my second graders – imagine that – they actually now know that we have 50 states in the United States and can name them all!

    • There is nothing like a little comedic relief to help make a connection and encourage learning!! I hope you are successful!

    • Hi Rachel,
I work in a very well off area of northwest ar. I myself have an extensive library as do others. I bet if you sent us a list of your novel needs, we might be able to help you locate some books. Also, have you considered a Go Fund Me? As a literacy teacher- I think you are doing a wonderful service to your students by putting real books in their hand at lexile levels they can read. Scholastic may also donate some books to you when they hear what you are trying to do.Let me know if I can help.

    • The best thing I’ve found for both of those is to make myself a list. I even have a list that I copy every week because I usually have the same things to prep for each week. Then I add to it as needed. And you can even prioritize it so you know what has to get done first. My goal was to start my list on Monday and have everything done by Wednesday for the following week, so that when the surprises popped up they were manageable rather than stressful. Good luck!

    • I agree! I get my running into the copy room no later than Wednesday and try and turn my lesson plans in by Friday, so I have the weekend to prepare if the need arises. I hope you are able to find your groove!

  34. My #SchoolYearResolution this year is to bring the fun back to the classroom by creating a more Learner-Active Classroom and having my students take charge of their own learning. This will mean crafting real-world problems for them to solve in order to understand the content in a meaningful way. They will have choices of activities based on their learning styles. This opportunity would give me funds to create more hands-on stations and infuse more technology projects in the classroom. Hard to do at the high school language arts level, but I am looking forward to the challenge!

      • Great idea! I did this at the elementary level and it was absolutely amazing! The best teaching I’ve ever done! And I found it to be much easier to plan – you just had to create the means for them to discover the learning. It was extremely powerful and very impactful – the students owned their learning and remembered everything they had learned over that year, rather than just doing worksheets and activities that were very teacher lead that in the past had not been as lasting with the students.

  35. After a very shaky and action packed school year last year, I resolve to be more engaging and to teach more enthusiastically.

  36. My resolution this year is to remember I do what I do for my students. At times we are the only constant in their lives-make that time count. Have a GREAT school year all!!!

    • Yes. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed and consumed by all the “extra” responsibilities that we as teachers have. If you keep your focus on the students, you find that everything else falls into place and it helps to keep everything in perspective (it helps you filter out the unimportant).

    • I am so happy that you don’t see this profession as a paycheck!! We impact lives in so many ways! I hope you are very successful this year!

  37. My goal this year is to involve my parents more. When parents are involved with their child’s learning, children are more excited about showing parents what they have learned or what they are learning! Children are eager to learn because they want to please their parents!

    • Yes, I was just reading an article about this. Also the advantage to parents is that they get to know the teacher and what they expect of the student.

    • That’s a great goal. I think we need to have a movement in schools to have a much more “together” working structure with parents rather than an “us” verses “them” mentality.

    • This is a great goal! I hope you are able to make the connections that encourage your parents to make the time to spend with their children!

    • I love an active classroom! It helps those students that struggle with sitting still all day! You will make a lasting impression!!

    • Christine, I learned about The Responsive Classroom this summer and they have a book titled, “88 Energizers for the Classroom,” and this would be a great way to incorporate movement and possibly serve as a quick review of content while the students have “fun.”

  38. #SchoolYearResolution for me is that my class of first graders will gain the ability to independently read that lays a foundation of their future school years. I want to build this foundation and make a difference in their lives.

    • Besides the curriculum, Read, Read, Read along with them, to them and them to you!! Share your enthusiasm for books and they will follow!! The best time is sitting on the floor pouring over a book with your students! Those were the best moments of my day as a First Grade teacher! I hope you make great connections an have fabulous readers!

    • I have found the best way to do this is to be present – be in the moment. Also, you need to have clear classroom expectations, and with that, consequences. When you have a healthy classroom environment, the connections occur automatically.

    • Start spending a few lunchtimes in the cafeteria with your students! I pick a table of my students at random and just chat. I get more work done in the class because they have had a chance to tell their stories and they feel special because I sat at their table. You will earn a whole level of respect with your students because you have given them some time! Have a great year!

  39. My #SchoolResolution is to serve every teacher and gifted student in my thirteen schools this year in such a way that the teachers have the materials and lessons needed to allow our gifted children the opportunities to expand, enrich, and explore the depth and complexity of topics in their areas of interest.

  40. It is my resolution for my students to feel a sense of ownership in our classroom. During the first days we’re together I hope to get to know my children on a personal level, so there is a climate of trust and respect. If children want to come to school, I have done half my job.

  41. I am a first year teacher and I need lots of help with building up my classroom. My #SchoolYearResolution is to create a comfort and hands on learning environment for my students.

    • Good luck in your first year of teaching! You will find that you will love teaching. The students are not perfect the schools are not perfect but you will make a difference! God bless you

    • Congratulations on your first year of teaching! Be sure to have clear expectations and directions for your hands-on learning stations so they can be purposeful and successful!

    • Welcome to the most rewarding profession on the planet! I hope you have a great impact on your students! Make intentional connections with your parents through communication and working together as well as setting a tone of mutual respect! Have a great year!

  42. My resolution for this school year is to differentiate my instruction so that each child’s needs are met and he/she can learn to his/her fullest potential!

    • Yes! This is so important. And when you set up your classroom in this style, you’ll find it’s not so difficult after all. A great way is to set learning goals with each student. My students had a goal in math, reading, and writing to start off with. We reviewed their writing based on their goals, we started each reading session talking about their goals and then conferencing about their progress, and in math they had a partner that helped them accomplish their goals! Good luck! It’s worth it!

  43. This year’s resolution is to enjoy my teaching, not to be so stubborn and on task, but not lazy. I want to learn each of my children’s learning abilities so they can enjoy learning. I really want to explore more outside the school work. Also to have our bible lesson every morning….we have a tendency to push that a side to jump right in to the school work.

    • That’s awesome you get to have a Bible lesson every morning. And I bet you’ll find that if you’re consistent with that, that it will help you and your students to enjoy the day more!

    • I start the day with our Bible lesson so we can apply it during the day. Prayer requests time first thing also helps relieve some of the tension my students come in the door with from home, that way they can concentrate better on the academics. Have a great year!

  44. My resolution for this school year is to involve every student in reaching his or her full potential. I plan to work with each student on his/her level and bring them up to the highest level they can reach. I plan to reward each gain positively to create a desire in the students to reach goals their parents will be proud of. As our school adopts the ONE TEAM ONE MISSION slogan, I resolve to be available to my co-workers in sharing ideas and planning lessons to work efficiently.

    • I love collaborating with the teachers on our site! It is the best way to work efficiently! I hope it works well for you!

    • If your mindset is strong on the opinion that all students truly can learn, then you will do whatever it takes to help your students achieve that. It’s all about your mindset. And it’s so rewarding to share with your colleagues – it’s amazing how much you grow that way. When you collaborate with your peers, you’re better able to help your children learn how to do the same!

  45. My resolutions this year are to help each of my students stay encouraged and engaged. I intend to do this through relationship building and more writing of positive notes, emails, and posts. I also intend to institute a peer group leadership, with competitions and rewards, to help students encourage one another academically. I also am determined to help them increase their reading abilities through more differentiated individual and group instruction.

  46. This year I hope to continually tell my students that every little bit counts and it’s never too late to start- Not everyone will begin to work at the exact same time or place in the school year. As a Spanish teacher I see many students overwhelmed with the amount of material they have to learn – by helping them to start and do a little bit every day my students can and are successful at learning Spanish!

  47. My resolution for this upcoming school year is two-fold. First, to pass all of my student teaching evaluations error free with my students helping to make this happen. Also, to see all of my students raise their math grades 5-10% points in their grades. Since I teach below average math students, this rise in their grades will be like getting an A+!

  48. Our resolution is to build a school-wide literacy culture that is driven by empowered teachers, fueled by curious and confident students, and supported by supported parents–where reading, writing, listening and speaking come ALIVE for everyone in our midst! Readers change the world…

  49. This will be my 38th year in education, 30 of those years have been in special education. I plan to retire at the end of this year. I want this year to be just as amazing and exciting as my very first one was all those years ago. I have met some wonderful children who grew to be wonderful adults and they taught me far more about life and love and living than I could ever hope to teach them.

  50. My #SchoolYearResolution is to make frequent parent contacts for outstanding behavior and successes. Too many times the only contact we have with parents is to tell them what their child is doing wrong and I’m sure it can be very frustrating. I want the students to share their educational experiences with their parents !

  51. This year I will strive for every one of my students to be able to say they did their personal best and are ready to move ahead.

    • Great! At the end of the day I would ask my students if they feel good about all the decisions they made that day – it’s a great way to help them learn how to reflect and be responsible for their own actions and learning.

    • I love your idea! I also want to end my day asking students what the best part of their day was and what they enjoyed learning the most. Good luck!

  52. Our School’s School Year Resolution is “It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become” by Dr. Seuss. My school year resolution for myself and to instill in my students is to find a purpose in each and every day of life.

  53. My School Year Resolution is to help my students develop that lifelong passion for learning. It is sad to hear adults admit that they haven’t read a book since they left school. I want to help my students realize that the world is a wonderful place that never stops growing and changing. That in order to keep up in this day and age learning can’t stop at the end of formal education, but that every day is full of opportunities to continue to grow and learn.

  54. My #schoolyearresolution is to remember the names of students who visit the Learning Commons and engage them in conversation about the books they read.

  55. Since I work with elementary students who struggle with math, this school year, my resolution is to design activities that encourage my students and parents to work together at home to strengthen the skill taught in school.

  56. My resolution is to stay organized through out the entire school year. I always start out doing great, but then as things become more and more rushed, I start putting things aside and then by the end of the year I feel like my room has been hit by a tornado!

      • I’m with you. We often get overwhelmed with all that is expected of us as the year progresses. Over the years I have realized that our students can really help me to stay organized. I love when mine organize and monitor my class library!

    • Organization is key! It’s also important so the students can feel organized and calm in their learning environment!

  57. My school year’s resolution is simple: I hope to increase every students reading level by at least three years. So, if a student comes to me at a 4th grade reading level, I hope they will leave with at least a 7th grade reading level (or possibly higher). I teach 7th grade language arts.

      • So much of accomplishing this goal lies in finding literature that the students are passionate about, so they can read outside of school on a regular basis. Read aloud is also a great way to get kids excited about reading.

    • Great goal! With differentiated learning, reading groups, guided reading, and individual reading, it’s definitely possible!

  58. My school year resolution is to have all of our students feel safe and comfortable at school so they can be active learners who are free to express their creativity in their own individualized ways.

  59. “This school year, my resolution is to help every student understand they are important and can do anything their hearts desire.”

  60. My 2015-2016 school year’s goal is to have students engage an eager to learn about foreign language and culture, to see them participate in cultural activities around town and share their experiences. Also to work with my fellow teachers to make this year a safe and rich of knowledge for our students. “Knowledge – no one can take it away from you!”

    • For the 2015-2016 school year I hope to have my students create some cool projects like a video game and model homes. By doing this they will be excited about math and will be using their critical think By skills as well.

    • For the 2015-2016 school year I hope to have my students create some cool projects like a video game and model homes. By doing this they will be excited about math and will be using their critical think By skills as well.

    • For the 2015-2016 school year I hope to have my students create some cool projects like a video game and model homes. By doing this they will be excited about math and will be using their critical thinking skills as well.

    • Experiencing culture in their town – that would be great! And really fun to get to share their experiences with everyone! There is life outside of school – and a lot of knowledge out there to be discovered!

  61. My new year’s resolution for 2015/16 is to stay organized and be consistent! I have trouble bouncing from one system to another when it comes to staying organized with paperwork, grading and general teacher forms. I hope to improve on this so that it is easier to access all I need at anytime in the year.

  62. My #SchoolYearResolution is to start a “Best Buddies” club at the High School I am starting at! Being a life skills teacher, this club will impact my student and the rest of the student body tremendously!

  63. This year, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for that one child (okay, more than one), who is at risk of falling through the cracks simply by virtue of who they are – quiet, well-behaved, introverted and reticent to ask for anything. You know the child I’m talking about – the one who gets overlooked simply because the more challenging students, the louder students, the boisterous students, the ever-questioning students – the extroverts (and I love them all!) – suck up all your time.
I will seek out that child and make sure that they KNOW that they are noticed, cared for and appreciated.

    • You will have an impact on those students which will be far reaching and life changing! I hope you accomplish you goal!

    • Making it a goal to notice all of your students is an honorable one! I know what you mean – we’ve all been there where we realize one slipped through our fingers. Once you admit that to yourself though, it’s quite easy not to skip over anyone anymore! Way to go!

  64. My school year resolution is to become more creative with my lessons. I plan on using as many varied teaching tools as possible. I want to have my students leave school everyday and have to tell someone about their school day!

  65. My School Year Resolution is to lift my students in some way each day. I can lift their level of understanding, lift their confidence, or simply lift their spirits to achieve my goal.

  66. My 2015-2016 School year resolution. Combined city effort being part of a school community tackling the drug epidemic. Looking to start my new course with true effort and long term stamina!!!
Looking forward to the year starting, and thank you
    Cara

  67. My school year resolution is to collaborate with my colleagues so that we can make learning accessible for all students. I work with English Language Learners who come from diverse backgrounds and have experienced many struggles including loss of family, assimilating into a new culture, language barriers, bullying, housing difficulties and many more horrific conditions coming from war stricken countries. I want to make my classroom a safe place for them where they do not feel judged and are able to relax and feel comfortable. It is essential for me to provide culturally relevant pedagogy where I am culturally aware of the different customs of my students and share this with my colleagues. Collaborating is vital to provide my students with comprehensive input so that they can feel successful.

  68. This year my school resolution is to keep my students engaged and excited about learning as much as possible! I want them to enter my class each day eager to learn and enthusiastic about any new subject matter that is presented.

  69. I will encourage my students to have faith in themselves and their abilities so they can be the best student possible.

  70. It is my desire to see my students excited about moving for and making gains in school. I am excited about learning; and I make every attempt to convey that to my students.

  71. This school year, my resolution is to provide more play time to encourage socialization, communication emotional stability for my students.

  72. My resolution is to teach my curriculum effectively with enthusiasm and vigor in an environment that is positive and emotionally safe. School is a harsh environment for some and the teacher’s attitude should be the one thing that is not. I want students to enter the door or my classroom expecting a welcome and a smile from their teacher. They deserve no less.

  73. My resolution as the family liaison in our district is to get families more actively involved in their child’s education and to assist and educate the students , staff and families about how bullying effects our community as a whole. We need to work together to help our young students feel the success they deserve. Good luck everyone in there 2015-2016 school year. Sending you strength, peace and compassion for the upcoming school year.

  74. My #SchoolYearResolution this year is to approach each of my students with deep retrospective thought to ensure the appropriate path is chosen to support their needs every step of the way as they pave their way to educational success! I love my little ones and want to be able to support them and their families as they learn and grow.

  75. My #SchoolYearResolution is to let go of the little things. I am going to be more present and appreciate what is going on now.

  76. My school resolution for 2015-16 is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for all my students. May God give me guidance throughout the school year to be the best teacher that will provide hands-on learning so all my students can succeed now and in their future endeavors.

  77. #schoolyearresolution: My school year resolution is to incorporate technology into my classroom through Ipad minis. Each student will be receiving one this year and I want to make the most of this amazing technology! I cannot wait to get started!

  78. I plan to make this new school year a success by sharing more hugs and more smiles to students and families. I plan to work with students staff and visitors to ensure the best quality of customer service. I plan to make sure the drivers are greeted and appreciated as they load and unload our precious cargo to school. I plan to make everyday count by getting to know students by their first name and knowing something good about them.

    • Nothing warms a heart more than a student who responds to a greeting or a good morning! Thanks for teaching your students to appreciate those that help them!

  79. My school year resolution is simply to constantly remind each student that they are important, loved, and respected. I want every child to know they are more to me than just a test score, and I value each one of them for their uniqueness and trust in me. I want to encourage each student to strive to reach all of their academic, social, and personal goals. #SchoolYearResolution

  80. My #SchoolYearResolution is to be focused on providing more positive feedback to all of my students. To also strive to find more ways to incorporate hands on activities for my students. I’m also striving to have more balance this year with my school and life.

      • This is great I am going to add to my list and not stay up late working this year getting things done ahead of time. Tired teacher is a cranky one! So, I will be a rested teacher this year.

  81. This year I will be integrating art into my lessons to offer my 7th grade students’ a different view on the content of history as a teaching strategy. This self-reflection has prompted me to think differently regarding engaging my student’s. Therefore art will be used in providing choice to student’s. This choice in reflection would improve my student’s academic performance over time by allowing them to use their multiple intelligence in the form of art. In the end as I begin the academic year my students’ overall success is at the forefront of my teaching practice. Inasmuch, I will use art, which is also therapeutic and can be used as a form of expression through active participation, which is crucial for the 21st century student!

  82. This school year, my resolution is to educate with compassion. I want to be focused on my students and their needs as people. Yes, I need to teach all my content. But, I want to remember that I have the time to stop and offer compassion to my students. I don’t know what each child may be facing in their personal lives. I want to make my class a safe place for them. And, I want to be supportive of each and every student.

    • I hope you start a cascade! You emulate compassion and then your students will start showing that same compassion to each other in class and beyond!

    • Yes, this is great we sometimes forget about our students have so much to offer outside of academic learning. Many times children teach us and we don’t even realize.

    • A neat thing I’ve done with my kids is at the beginning of the year I ask their parents to do some homework for me – I ask them to tell me all about their child; to brag about their child. It’s great to read them and gives you a great idea of your students and reminds you that your students are someones pride and joy!

  83. My school year resolution is to create an environment where both teachers and students view themselves as learners!

  84. My school year resolution is to slow down and instill the joy of learning in my students. To not get caught up in all the standards, but remember what it is like to be a kid in elementary school and make it a fun place students want to come to learn each day. And hopefully the joy of learning will extend for the rest of their lives.

  85. #SchoolYearResolution is to make my K-2 special education classroom a place where students grow, learn, and take risks to achieve their highest potential!

  86. This (my 29th) year, I’m going to do my BEST to make my goal something I’ve never tried before. After the first official back-to-school faculty meeting, I’m usually so stressed out (and many times annoyed) by all the new testing requirements, inevitable disappointing salary and benefits news from the union, updates from our resource officers (school police) warning us of the latest technology and cyber threats to protect ourselves and students from, unwelcome schedule/classroom/
admin/content changes, etc.,et.. Then, it usually turns out that many or most of the “gloom and doom” predictions turn out better than expected. This year, I’m going to try my best to remember this during and after that first faculty meeting and hope that doing so, will help me start the new year with the positive attitude and good spirits my incoming class deserves and too often doesn’t get from their overwhelmed teachers. I’m also going to see if I can get the admins on board with this idea as well, as they have a huge impact on the atmosphere the school starts and ends with. I’m hoping this plan will be successful and I’ll share it with my colleagues if it is! TS

  87. My #1 resolution for this school year is to take a few minutes each week to organize my materials so I have everything handy (and I know what I have) to create some awesome learning stations for my students.

  88. My New Year’s Resolution is to engage my students as much as possible using technology, art, music and manipulatives. This will have a positive impact on my students’ learning achievements!

  89. This year my school year resolution is to try and instill a love for reading in each student I teach. When you read, you can go anywhere, be anything, and do anything. I don’t want them to just read, but LOVE to read.

  90. This school year will be exciting for my students. We will embark into project based learning and I have so many ideas to help my kiddos navigate to find their own understanding and knowledge while having FUN! My goal is to give my students tools to be more independent and critical thinkers. I can’t wait to start!!!

  91. My school year resolutions for this year are to implement a math workshop model in my 7th and 8th grade classrooms. My purpose is to make my math instruction student-driven, which will bring ownership to students for their learning as well as building strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. I am also planning on integrating more technology in my math instruction as quick formative assessments and student engagement. I can’t wait!

  92. My #SchoolYearResolution is to remember that kids come from all kinds of homes and for many of them, school is the safe place to be. When I am working with my students identified most “at risk”, I will remind myself they don’t all think, believe, experience the same way I did/do and I must meet them where they are coming from in helping them find success.

  93. My #new year resolution is to find a positive every day and leave someone with a positive every day. The stress of teaching can easily get to us all, but one daily positive can turn it all around and help keep each other going! We do this because we love to and no other reason!

  94. My resolution for the school year is to really incorporate more artistic opportunities for my students through my instruction. I hope that my students will have a greater appreciation for the arts as a result of the improvements in my instruction.

    • I love it when art is factored into the core curriculum. I have the best responses when I give a comprehension test that requires students to draw their answers! It gives my lower functioning students a chance to shine! I hope it is successful for you!

  95. My #School Year Resolution to balance the classroom atmosphere with academic/learning goals and the social/emotional health of my students. I want to relay the value and satisfaction of setting goals and working hard towards them and to also find joy in learning.

  96. My school year resolution is to continue to push my students to excel and become leaders that know what is the right thing to do. I have been teaching many years (since two days after dirt was invented) and still can’t sleep the night before the first day of school. Every year before school starts, I think about

    • That’s a great goal! I would ask my students at the end of the day – do you feel good about the choices you made today? You want to make choices that you can be proud of!

    • I love that phrase (since two days after dirt was invented)! You have been teaching along time. What strikes me is how much you care about your first day even now! I hope I have that same passion about my first days in years to come! Hope you have a great year!

  97. My school year resolution is to continue to push my students to excel and become leaders that know what is the right thing to do. I have been teaching many years (since two days after dirt was invented) and still can’t sleep the night before the first day of school. Every year before school starts, I think about

  98. My #SchoolYearResolution is to encourage my students to find ways to find their strength, use this as a focus for the education and strive to be the best they can be. I want them to understand that although there is a lot of competition in the world, the toughest competition they will face is their own goals and drive.

  99. My resolution this year is to allow my students to have a more realistic view of learning. My goal is to get the community involve with my student’s learning. This will allow them to understand why they learning the content and how it will be used in their future.

  100. This year I will set up and practice classroom procedures more thoroughly. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

    • That is so true! A little extra work at the beginning pays off so much and makes a much better year in the long run!

    • I agree! We line up and reline up! I will leave 5-7 minutes early with the intention of this happening without being late all in order to get the point across. I hope you are successful!

  101. I want to make deeper connections with my students, as well as implement mindfulness and whole brain teaching techniques. I am hoping my enthusiasm for reading and learning will become infectious and motivate my students. Thank you for supporting students and teachers with your giveaway. Teachers spend more out-of-pocket money for our jobs than any profession! Thanks again!!

  102. My school resolution for this year is to be better than last. I am a newer teacher and I continue to learn from others and from my students everyday. The kids I teach come from hardship backgrounds and when they enter my room, it’s as if they rely on me to give them what they may never have. Each year I get better at upholding this responsilbility and this year I want to be even better making a difference for them.

  103. My resolution this year is to give a little more love, be a little more understanding, and have a little more fun!

  104. My #SchoolYearResolution is that my students will leave my classroom hearing the words, “You are important!”

  105. My new school year resolution is to make sure that I stay on task with my students. To foster respect and communication… and “Never let them see me sweat”.

    • It’s actually okay for them to see you struggle through things a little – it’s a normal part of life and it’s important they understand that it’s okay to have to problem solve through things on the spot. And for them to respect you, remember, you just have to respect them! Modeling is powerful!

    • Oh, I love that. I had some amazing science teachers in school which made such an impact on my life – being interested in science and the world around you is fun and important!

  106. I teach third graders. I have a challenging group of students. My #SchoolYearResolution is to be that teacher they remember when they are older. I hope to find ways to meet this extremely animated group of students that are in my room this year. I am gearing up for the challenge and hoping for a connection that will allow them to amaze me as well as surprise themselves. I can’t wait to see how these kids’ personalities will color my walls. 🙂

  107. My #ScoolYearResolution is to have faith in myself to provide guidance to my students and staff in the areas that are my strength, and listen carefully in areas that are not.

  108. This school year, my #1 resolution is to make sure all of my music students have the music and materials they need for my classes. I want to provide a creative, nurturing environment where their musical creativity can flourish.

My class motto is “Be an innovator, not an imitator”. My dream is to be able to give my students the chance and tools to be musical pioneers.

The gift card will go a long way towards making that happen. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.

  109. #SchoolYearResolution is to create an awesome co teaching classroom for my students and meet the needs of all learners this school year. 2nd grade rocks!!!!

  110. My school year resolution is to make math less confusing for my students. For most of my high school students, math is the one subject they just don’t understand: “How did letters get into math?” Through my guidance and well-thought out activities, I hope to make math make sense to them this year!

  111. My new year’s resolution is to provide the best guidance, support, encouragement, and enthusiasm, to all my students, as I take them for a ride of their lifetime with reading and writing!
The S & S Gift Card would be a tremendous help in helping obtain the much necessary materials needed in the classroom that our Title 1 school is unable to fund.

  112. I resolve to make each of my students feel special & loved & treat them with the utmost respect. By touching the lives of my students, their future & the world will be changed forever!

  113. My #SchoolYearResolution is to be positive in the face of all the challenges you list in your introduction plus all the others that come our way. I’m also striving for work/life balance this year.

  114. My #SchoolYearResolution is to create shared opportunities for connection; as thinkers, makers, and humans in a classroom called Earth! Any supplies that I would get will help me get closer to this goal!

  115. My school year resolution for 2015 – 2016 is to be the strongest Language Arts teacher on my campus. My goal is to prepare my students to become productive members of their community.

  116. Working with students who have learning disabilities is both rewarding and frustrating. To start my 13th year as an intervention specialist my resolution is this: To be patient even during the stressful times and to find an activity that renews my energy level so I am ready to give it my all the next day at school.

  117. My #SchoolYearResolution is to become better at both managing and engaging my class through Whole Brain Teaching. My (year round) students LOVE it so far, as does their teacher!

  118. My school year resolution is to spend more time building true relationships with my students. We work hard and play hard in the classroom but we also have lives outside of school. I am making it my personal goal to attend as many soccer games, birthday parties, and all of those extracurricular activities that my students invite me to. We need to help make a difference both in and out of school!

    • I try and teach my students how to celebrate their differences. My motto: If you are good at something, whether academics or sports, then you are responsible for helping someone who struggles without bias or judgment. It also builds teamwork! I hope you are able to achieve this!

  119. School will be beginning in less than a month and my #SchoolYearResolution for the school is to be able to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the almost 80% Free/Reduced lunch families in the school. They often purchase things that are cheap because that is all they can afford! I would love to start up a fruit/vegetable initiative within the community to help the school’s families out! Any amount of money would get me started!!! Thanks for offering this to teachers! All of us have a HUGE heart and want to do so many things but our budget does not allow it!
    Maureen from Maine

  120. My #schoolyearresolution as a 1st grade teacher is to motivate, inspire, and nourish the children in my class to feel safe and to love school so they will continue their journey to grow and be successful citizens one day! ! #love learning! !

  122. My #SchoolYearResolution is to make meaningful connections with my students and teach them self regulating skills and techniques that they will use for the rest of their lives.

  123. My resolution for 2015-2016 is to learn the sensory preference (audio, visual, kinesthetic) of both parents and students in order to communicate more effectively throughout the school year.

  124. We’re going to make it more interesting to get kids to read by having a read a thon. The kids will be given a attainable goal for there reading level so they won’t get discourage. When the kids reach their goals they will earn scholastic dollar each time to by books at our book fairs.

  125. My school year resolution is to make me a better me so that I am giving the kids my very best. I plan on managing my time better so that I am not frazzled at deadlines which causes me to take my head out of the teaching game. I also plan on finding a way to continue walking because it makes me feel so much better in the summer that I want the feeling to last all year long!

  126. My #SchoolYearResolution is to help my students create a positive community in our classroom so each child can learn. I hope that each child who walks through my door realizes that he/she is important, loved, and has the ability to change the world.

    • That positive community begins with you! You are the greatest example! I have learned that, what you do your students will follow! I hope your gentleness, patience and respect are contagious!

  127. As a music and theatre teacher my #SchoolYearResolution is to make this school year even better than last year. I want my students to love learning and to become the best that they can be! School should develop the whole child and provide a foundation for success as an adult, both personally and professionally.

  128. My #SchoolYearResolution is to restructure small group reading to include guided reading for comprehension and decoding, book clubs w/ student choice and flexible groups to target specific skills!

  129. My school year resolution is to teach, build and instill social and developmental skills so that students can feel comfortable and confident to reach their academic capacity.

  130. My new school years resolution is not just to teach, but to listen to their stories; not to hurry to finish my lesson, but to pause and take mental snapshots of their engagement; and finally, not just to make them love Science, but to inspire them to become Scientists!

  131. My wish is to createl a love of physical science to my students. If I can get 8th grAders to be engaged, motivated learners you will see one happy teacher dance!!!

  132. My #SchoolYearResolution this year is to bring more science into my kindergarten classroom. This summer, I have researched age-appropriate STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) projects and my goal is to provide a variety of supplies/materials needed to encourage my students to create, explore, discover, problem solve, and become real life junior scientists!

  133. My #Schoolyear resolution is to take my pre k exceptional student education students to the sensory room to give them what they need everyday.

  134. I would like this year to be the year that my parents of my students feel that we are a team working together to provide the best for pre kindergarten exceptional student education.

  135. My #SchoolYearResolution is to give my first grade students a solid foundation in phonics and reading skills as well as instill a love of reading.
Another resolution is to organize my extensive classroom library. I so love to buy books for my classroom – a downfall to my bank account – but so much fun when I see students reading and sharing a favorite Fly Guy or Pete the Cat book.

    • I spent a lot of time on the floor reading books with my first grade classes in the beginning of the year. By the end, they were reading them by themselves! I wish every success for your reading program!

  136. My resolution for this school year is to accept and love my students more. I have decided to love them all – especially the socially challenged, awkward, emotionally upset and difficult ones. I believe the best and most wonderful teaching and leaning happens in a a safe loving atmosphere. I will show this love by encouraging every response by emphasizing what is good, correct and interesting in their answers and comments. I will put feet on my prayers and do my best for these dear young people God and these students parents have trusted me with. I am blessed to have this opportunity ! ( I have to remember that.)

  137. My school year resolution is to bring in real world activities to all the subject areas, so that my students will see how important school is in their daily lives:)

  138. My school year resolution is to help my students see their hidden potential and encourage them to set and work toward attainable goals. This is especially important for my seniors.I will work with my juniors prepping for the ACT

  139. My school year resolution is to help my students see their hidden potential and encourage them to set and work toward attainable goals. This is especially important for my seniors.

  140. My goal is to keep my students as active as possible and to get our staff in on the action to show kids that fitness is a life long event. We have a school wide Turkey Trot and Wildcat Walk that involve our whole school.

  141. My resolution is to stay organized and focused on the individual needs of my speech/language students so I can better prepare for their sessions.

  142. This year my resolution is to spread JOY daily! One way I plan to do this is by making a minimum of ten #GoodCallsHome per week. As an Assistant Principal I am often making calls for other reasons, but I want to recognize the awesomeness as well!

  143. #SchoolYearResolution – to provide my students with an engaging curriculum that motivates the most hard core procrastinator with the curiosity to take a peek, get involved in their own learning and realize that learning can be fun in the social environment presented in the middle school classroom.

  144. My #SchoolYearResolution is improve my high school library program and setting. I am in a building that was built in 1981 and has had very little improvement. I would like to update to a 21st Century Library Learning Commons atmosphere.

  145. My #SCHOOLYEARRESOLUTION is to smile and be positive each day! Also, to touch one student a day, so that they feel welcomed in my class.

  146. I teach moderately to severely handicapped students. My #SchoolYearResolution is to increase communication skills for all my students. This will take a variety of forms and help from all my assistants. We will need to create multiple daily opportunities for students to use their expressive skills. My secondary goal is for my students to enjoy school and increase their opportunities to make choices for themselves. Too many of my students have too much done for them instead of learning to do things for themselves.

  147. My school year resolution is to have better communication with families. At a class this summer I learned of a free app called Remind 101 that gives free text messages to parents and students without revealing phone numbers. Many teachers already use it. It can be used for homework, general info ,etc. I’m going to give it a whirl.

It’s more exciting than just taking notes and definitely interactive! Once I get these started, I can incorporate them into our 1-1 device program that starts in January! Imagine the whole thing on the internet at their fingers in an instant!

  153. I will make this year my best year yet! I resolve to stress less, teach with passion and always put my students needs first. They deserve it! 155. In this state they can focus their eyes on the future, expectant of new challenges, and simply view problems as “solutions in disguise.” This is my #SchoolYearResolution
