Lindsey Graham: The Gov’t Should’ve Shot 61-Year-Old Gyrocopter Protester Should’ve out of the Sky

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Last Wednesday, a 61-year-old postal worker named Dough Hughes flew a “flying bicycle” through restricted airspace and landed on the Capitol front lawn in protest for, of all things, campaign finance reform.

He was not armed, he just wanted to make a point. Someone must’ve let him do it, too because that airspace is, again, restricted and highly secured. The Capitol was, of course, subsequently put on lockdown. Hughes was arrested and the feds have charged him with one count of knowingly operating an aircraft not properly register and one count of violating national air defense space.

That, however, it not good enough for Lindsey Graham. Instead, the government should’ve apparently just blown Hughes out of the sky, no questions asked.

Via Hot Air (how appropriate) on Graham’s appearance on the Hugh Hewitt show:

“I don’t know why he wasn’t, but our nation is under siege,” Graham continued. “Radical Islam is a threat to our homeland. There are probably radical Islamic cells in our backyard already. And if somebody is willing to, you know, approach vital government infrastructure, they should do so at their own peril.”

Graham later conceded that his zero tolerance approach to enforcing no-fly regulations over the Capitol would probably have resulted in significant embarrassment for the federal government and the nation as a whole…

It’s an attitude more than anything. These are episodes or instances of just poor security, not taking the situation as seriously as we should. But President Obama has done a miserable job of explaining the threat, marginalizing the threats we face, explain away and excusing the behavior of our enemies like Russia and Iran to the point that people have had a false sense of security. The beheadings change everything, but if you left it up to our president to inform us as a nation to threats we face at home and abroad, he has been a miserable failure. And that does take a toll on the country.

Perhaps it wasn’t the smartest choice of protest vehicle, but the guy wasn’t a threat. On an aside, what if the guy just accidentally flew into restricted airspace?

Graham said, “We’ve gotta be more serious about our national security,” meaning, the government has to kill more disgruntled citizens straight away without even ascertaining if they are actually a danger or just a nonviolent protester because anyone who is even a remotely potential threat to the government should be silenced permanently.

And make no mistake, as more and more people start openly protesting our utterly corrupt, tyrannical government, of which corruption is now oozing out of all sides like a bucket full of holes but filled with the nastiest filth imaginable, more and more “shoot first, ask questions later” calls are going to be made.

These people are agents of the State. So who do they represent? Exactly.
