A huge crowd turned out Saturday night for the final installment of Chinatown Summer Nights, and the seven bands who performed on the LA Weekly Live Music Stage did not disappoint. Art-rockers Figs Vision capped the night by previewing some new song along with selections from their full-length “Mother,” after the Black and White overcame some gear problems to get the crowd moving with their dancey rock. The Shelters did their best to steal the whole show with their brawny, brainy guitar rock; afterward,, their sampler CDs flew off the merch table faster than confetti shot from one of the party’s omnipresent cannons.

Smoke Season’s sultry pop was a hit too, as was the viola-splashed indie-pop of Forebear. Earlier, Mad Revival amped up the crowd with some old-school blues-rock, and Spooky Island kicked off the night with some haunted-lounge blues. On the dance stage, KCRW’s Jason Bentley and Garth Trinidad did sets. Oh, and there was an marriage proposal in the 9 o’clock hour. She made him sweat but said yes.

Live music returns to Chinatown on Saturday night, Sept. 26, for the Chinatown Moon Festival. Lineup to be announced this week.
