Coleman, DeArmond earn President's Award honors

Student athletes recognized at NDC Honors Convocation

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Thursday night at Notre Dame College marked a momentous occasion for the College and NDC Athletics as more than a dozen student-athletes were recognized for both their athletic and academic achievements.

Kelsey Coleman (Softball) and Dion DeArmond (Men's Basketball) highlighted the evening as each was honored with the President's Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence.

Coleman, a senior from Suffield, Ohio, will graduate in May as one of the most accomplished players in NDC softball program history. Coleman ranks in the top-five in program history in seven different statistical categories, including hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI and batting average. The senior currently holds the program mark for career triples, having hit 15 in her NDC career.

Additionally, Coleman was a 1st Team All-Mountain East member in 2014, as well as being named to 1st Team All-Atlantic Region.

Off the field, Coleman's accolades are just as impressive. She is majoring in Moderate to Mild Intervention Specialist (MMIS), otherwise known as Special Education, and currently holds a 3.2 GPA. Coleman will finish her student teaching this coming Fall, and will then go to graduate school for Severe Intervention Specialist to pursue a teaching career.

DeArmond, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, finished his Falcons career among the all-time greats in NDC men's basketball program history. DeArmond is a two-time 1st Team All-Mountain East Conference selection, and finish in the top-three in scoring in the MEC in both his junior and senior seasons.

Furthermore, the senior currently ranks in the top-five in program history in six different statistical categories. DeArmond ranks second in program history in career field goal percentage, fourth in points, fourth in steals, fourth in blocks, fourth in offensive rebounds and fifth in rebounds.

A Sports Management major, DeArmond will graduate this Spring with a 3.24 GPA.

"Events like tonight's really exemplify what Notre Dame College Athletics is all about," said Director of Athletics Scott Swain. "We truly believe in the 'student' coming first in the term 'student-athlete.' I'm extremely proud of our student-athletes and all that they achieve on the field, but I'm even more proud of their accomplishments in the classroom."
