Seattle U Swim Teams Earn CSCAA Academic Honors

The Seattle University swim program continued to show excellence both in the pool and in the classroom during the 2014-15 academic year, as both the men's and women's swim teams were named Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), announced earlier this week by the national organization.

With a grade point average of 3.57, the Seattle U women's swim team tied for 13th place among the Division I schools receiving the honor. In all, 172 Division I women's swim teams received Scholar All-America Team recognition for having a grade point average of at least 3.0 during the spring semester or either the winter or spring quarter, including WAC members Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, North Dakota, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, Idaho, and CSU Bakersfield.

The Redhawk men's swim team accumulated a 3.18 grade point average during the winter quarter, one of 92 Division I squads that earned the team academic honor. Among schools that competed in the Western Athletic Conference during the 2014-15 season, Grand Canyon, North Dakota, UNLV, and Wyoming all joined the Seattle U men in receiving the academic recognition.

In addition, two Redhawks received Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honors for compiling a grade point average of at least 3.50 during either the winter or spring quarter and achieving a “B” cut during the season. Tanner Schelling (Boise, Idaho) finished the 2015 winter quarter with a 3.906 GPA and earned a “B”-cut time of 55.23 seconds in the 100 breaststroke at the 2014 Husky Invitational last December. Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) posted her “B”-cut time in the 200 breaststroke at the WAC Championships in February with a time of 2:15.56, plus she earned a winter quarter GPA of 3.567.

The Seattle University men's and women's swim teams will once again compete within the Western Athletic Conference, with the 2016 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships taking place Feb. 24-27 at the University of Houston's CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas.
