Thieves caught on camera stealing from toddler with autism

KATY, Texas – A neighbor’s security camera recorded the entire incident, a couple of thieves stole a toy car from a 3-year-old little boy with autism.

The video shows a vehicle pull up to a home in the 24000 block of Colonial Birch Lane, a young woman got out and grabbed a toy car from someone’s front yard, then she stuffed it into the front seat of her own car, hopped in the backseat and the driver took off.

“He’s little, he doesn’t understand,” said Claudia Ortega, whose son Santiago has had the car for two years.  “He’s still looking for his car.”

Ortega and her three kids had been outside playing on Sunday, they went indoors for only a few minutes and that’s when the toy car was stolen.

Santiago loved the car so much and now it’s gone.

“He had it inside on Saturday and was trying to ride it inside,” Ortega said.

Her neighbor’s kids saw the theft happened, they told her there was man who was smoking and cursing in the front seat of the suspect vehicle driving  and the woman who stole the car got out of the front seat.  There may have been a third person sitting in the back.
It took a matter of seconds for the crime to happen.

Ortega hopes the people responsible see the video, feel guilty, have a change of heart and return it.

“I don’t know why they want to steal from a 3-year-old,” she said.  I just don’t understand.”
