Multiple people, including officer, sent to Jersey City hospitals after accident: officials

JERSEY CITY -- Multiple people, including a uniformed police officer, were injured earlier tonight after a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed on Ocean Avenue struck another vehicle, sending it onto the sidewalk near Myrtle Avenue, according to city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill.

It is unknown at this time how many people were injured in the incident.

A total of 12 people were treated by EMS at the scene. Seven were transported to Jersey City Medical Center and are in stable condition, according to hospital spokesman Mark Rabson.

The injured officer was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, Morrill said.

Three others were sent to Christ Hospital, according to hospital spokesman Jarrod Bernstein, although two of them refused medical attention. The other victim is in stable condition.

No other information on the status of the victims was made available.

The incident is under police investigation and the driver was detained at the scene, according to Morrill.
