Shelter is running out of options

Joy Junction used to be the pick- up area for the homeless to be shuttled to  the local shelter, but after some complaints the the shelter decided to move the pick-up area to 12th and Central.

A homeless shelter is having trouble finding a spot where the homeless can be picked up.Joy Junction had been using First and Lomas streets near downtown Albuquerque, but because of the mess left behind by the homeless, it moved its spot to 12th and Central Avenue.The new location is no longer available for similar reasons.Joy Junction officials said they're trying to find a middle ground so they can meet their needs and the needs of the neighborhood.“We understand you don't want defecation, trash and garbage around your neighborhood," Joy Junction founder Jeremy Reynalds said. "I wouldn't either. But again, having said that we can't keep kicking this public football down the road."Some spots suggested for pickup are the Civic Plaza and the downtown library.Shelter officials said they will talk to the city about their options Monday.
