Duffy named GLVC Scholar-Athlete Award recipient

Liam Duffy was named the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men's Basketball.
Rockhurst's Liam Duffy has been named the 2014-15 Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men's Basketball, it was announced by the conference office Friday.

Duffy is only the second Hawk to ever receive the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction in men's basketball as Aaron Hill was recognized back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010. Duffy completed his career with a 3.92 semester GPA that improved his overall mark to 3.87 in the Pre-Med Molecular Biology field.

The senior from Rapid City, S.D., has earned Academic All-GLVC honors and Dean's List recognition at Rockhurst each year on campus and is also a recent recipient of the Council of President's Academic Excellence Award. His individual success in the classroom also helped his squad earn Team Academic All-GLVC laurels. On the hardwood, Duffy finished his four-year career with 594 points, 158 3-point field goals, 231 rebounds and 148 assists. He led the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (48.3) in his junior year.

The conference selects one student-athlete in each conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) which meets Academic All-America standards (3.30), and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award. The voting is completed by each member institution's Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR).
