Indiana, PA

Box Score
3225Pitt-Johnstown erased a 12-point first half deficit, then used a 24-8 run to finish the game in a 71-61 victory over the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in Saturday's final round of the 2015 IUP Indiana Regional Medical Center Classic.

Nate Snodgrass scored a game-high 20 points (4-4 3-pointers) to lead four Pitt-Johnstown players who scored in double figures and help the Mountain Cats improve to 5-2.

The Sciences jumped out to a 14-8 lead on Will Gregorits' lay-up six minutes in, before an A.J. Leahey 3-pointer cut Pitt-Johnstown's deficit to 16-14.

Brendan Crawford's free-throws with just under 11 minutes left in the first half pushed the Devils' lead back out to six, but the Mountain Cats used four straight points from George Prota to cut it to 22-21 at the seven minute mark.

However, Pitt-Johnstown couldn't get over the hump.  The Sciences countered with a 12-1 run over the next 4:07 to extend the lead to 34-22 on two straight buckets from Gregorits.

The Mountain Cats got back in it with a 3-pointer from Jake Laravie, followed by a basket in the paint from Isaac Vescovi with nine seconds left to make it 34-27 at the half.

Pitt-Johnstown held the momentum and extended the run to 13-2 to start the second half.  The Mountain Cats got a 3-pointer from Leahey and a basket from Vescovi to open the half, before Dale Clancy's 3-pointer at 18:11 capped the run and got Pitt-Johnstown to within one at 36-35.

The Devils rebuilt the lead to three, but the Mountain Cats kept coming back.  Snodgrass hit a 3-pointer to knot it at 42, and Leahey made one of two from the free-throw line with 13:34 remaining to give Pitt-Johnstown its first lead of the evening at 43-42.

Neither team was able to go in front by more than two for the next seven minutes until five straight points from Flo Da Silva's put The Sciences up 53-47.

However, it was all Pitt-Johnstown the rest of the way.  The Mountain outscored The Sciences 24-8 over the final 6:43 to seal the 10-point victory.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Laravie and Snodgrass put Pitt-Johnstown back in front by a basket, before another 3-pointer from Laravie and a conventional 3-point play from Olando King, Jr. at 3:29 made it 63-56.  Pitt-Johnstown went on to hit its free-throws and went on to the win.

Along with Snodgrass, Leahey had 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists, and Laravie finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Mountain Cats.  King, Jr. rounded out the double-figures scorers with 10 points, while Clancy collected nine points, three rebounds, and six assists in the victory.

Pitt-Johnstown shot and even 44.0% (22-50) from the field, but connected on 12-22 from behind the three-point line and 15-21 from the free-throw line.  The Mountain Cats also held the Devils to just 37.9% (22-58) shooting and 2-13 shooting from 3-point range.  The Sciences also made 15 of its 22 free-throws.

Gregorits' 16 points led the way for The Sciences.  Da-Silva had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Wes Kerr chipped-in 13 points and eight rebounds for the Devils, who slipped to 3-3 on the year.

The Mountain Cats continue a stretch of seven straight road games at Seton Hill on Tuesday and at Kutztown and Mansfield next weekend.  Pitt-Johnstown will play its next home game on January 6 against Shippensburg.
