Man stole taxi after leaving hospital
A man is behind bars after police say he stole a taxi immediately after he was discharged from Mercy Medical Center on Friday.According to Des Moines police, Luis Orellana-Rivera, 26, hopped in a running taxi that was parked outside the hospital after being released around 6 a.m.Officials at Trans Iowa said the driver reported immediately reported that his vehicle had been stolen. Orellana-Rivera was reportedly getting out of the taxi when authorities located the vehicle about 30 minutes later.Police said Orellana-Rivera had the keys in his pocket at the time of his arrest. He told police he stole the taxi because didn't want to walk six blocks home.Orellana-Rivera was booked into the Polk County Jail on a second-degree theft charge.
