YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University rowing team continues its 2015 fall season Sunday, Oct. 11, when it makes the trek up to East Lansing for the Head of the Grand regatta.  This will be the third straight season in which the Eagles will compete in the meet, and the fourth time in program history.

The Eagles will get a chance to see many new faces hit the water for the first time, as the Green and White will be putting eight different boats into competition.  This includes three Varsity 4+ boats, three Novice 8+ boats, and two Varsity 8+ boats.

The all-day competition begins at 9 a.m. with the Women's Varsity 4+ race.  Eastern's A, B, and C boats will square off against teams from Grand Valley State, Michigan State, Case Western, John Carroll, and Michigan Tech.

Then, there is the Women's Novice 8+ race at 10:30 a.m., in which three of EMU's boats will face off against boats from Grand Valley State and Case Western.  This race will mark the debut of 24 freshman on the water for the Green and White.

Finally, the Women's Varsity 8+ race is set to begin at 1:45 p.m.  Eastern's two boats will race against boats from Grand Valley State, Michigan State and Case Western.  Last year's Varsity 8 boat had the Eagle's best finish of the day, crossing the line in fourth with a time of 12:56.27.

"The Head of the Grand is a good chance for us to see some of the competition in Michigan," Head Coach Kemp Savage said.  "It is nice to have a race this close to home this early in the season so that we can see how all the novice rowers are progressing."

Following the weekend, the Eagles will take an almost three week break before their last race of the fall season at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn.
